How exactly does that little brass clip go back in? I broke the original one and bought a replacement (just like it) but it fits loose, even before I broke the original one, when trying to put it back in place it was sitting loose. So I broke it trying to close it with the nose pliers.

Did that shifter lever come originally with the bolted portion for the cable?
