  • Every petrolhead dreams of building their own car. In this video you can catch a summary of 1500 hours of work building the Arete GT 200mph supercar. This 1500 hours, brings the car from; little more than a dream, to the stage of assembly where components are starting to look like a rolling platform. The video, is a compilation of moments from 40 individual videos, outlining the work in detail. From the original scale model, to the full size plug, producing molds for body parts, laminating composite body parts, fabricating custom suspension components, a twin turbo 1Jz GTE rebuild, a scratch built exhaust and muffler system and all the other little parts necessary to create a car from the ground up. This is not a kit, component car, or restoration, but the brain child of Jay Jarvie; prototype engineer and fabricator. Watch how one man can be concept artist, designer, engineer, fabricator, body shop, tuner and all around problem solver. If you've ever wanted to “Build your own!” then this video will show you one man's method and hopefully inspire you to take the plunge in becoming a BuilderCreator as well.

I am a metalworker so I will be doing mine in aluminum, but I'll need to build a buck like you did (only half of one though). I had no idea drywall mud could be used as a base for that. I am blown away by your obvious wealth of knowledge. I don't know that the average person would grasp just how much you need to know to design and build something like this. Absolutely incredible work.

      Thanks for your kind words and for subscribing to the channel. Typically a buck for pulling patterns and trial fitment in aluminum bodywork, is made out of heavy plywood, but once you have the buck built, your set in stone (or plywood). I use the plaster the way a design studio would use clay; it gives you the opportunity to add or subtract from your design. I don't see why you could not use the plaster model/buck in aluminum fabricating. I've not had the opportunity to do any real work (more like just mess around) on the English wheel, but would also like to have a go at an aluminum car. Something akin to a D type Jaguar would be the bomb!

      @@BuilderCreator Thank you sir! I'll definitely be binge watching all of your videos in the coming weeks as well. As far as the buck for aluminum, I won't be fitting the aluminum parts to the buck itself. I am going to use a method developed by Wray Schelin that he calls a flexible shape pattern. The buck is only used to get the pattern, and you can flip the pattern for the opposite side. It's actually a fascinating process and if you have any interest in doing that sort of metal shaping you should definitely check out his channel Wray Schelin's Proshaper Workshop.

    I consider myself being a handy guy. I built three houses, two garages and two workshops, the biggest enough for a small carpenter company. I renovated many cars, built a cab and two pick-ups on standard car chassies. Also a few bike builds and a boat. Now, this is probably streching my abilitys a bit, but i could most likely build something like this. Unfortunantly i am almost 60 and my lungs and heart has soon passed their experations date, witch stops me from starting a build; -i would never see it finished. That, of course, make me sad. But to see some one make a fanstastic project like this come true, truly cheers me up! You, Sir, are a true professional. Respect!

    • @BuilderCreator
      @BuilderCreator  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yep, sounds like you are definitely handy enough to tackle a project like this. And NEVER say that "almost 60" is getting too old; we are the same age. It may be just the thing to keep you feeling young. I look at it this way; if we live to be a hundred years old, that will be the year 2064. That is a long ways off. When I was young, I wondered if I would live to the year 2000. Breezed by that with ease, so why not 2064? Thanks for watching.

I contacted Wheelers Builders to see what I needed and have been slowly purchasing welding equipment, (to start a mobile welding business), I found a 1900's lathe, a 70" sheet metal brake and I am looking for a milling machine among everything else I am going to need. Basically mock the kits all you want, but any fool can use a kit, put all those kits together and build a whole car from scratch, not any fool can do that, Infact that is the work of a whole team, done by one person, at the expense of kits, which were worked out by people whom's Willy I would suck in gratitude, don't mock him being efficient, that'd make you stupid!
