DuneInfo There's a really intense hunger for it now. The world is ready for it. Especially after almost 2 decades now of "Matrix" "Lord of the rings" and "Avatar" esque types of science fiction stories with big budgets and grandiose storytelling.
Even "Elysium" and "Gravity" are a point in that direction.
There's got to be someone out there who can handle this Masterpiece.

Jodorowsky's dune will probably never happen, I hate to admit it. I think the closest we may get, is if the rumors of a Dennis Villeneuve adaptation are true, that they could maybe bring Jodorwsky on board as at least an art supervisor or a similar position.

***** Sadly you're right. HBO or SHOWTIME could pull if off but both networks already have their "hit sci-fi" /fantasy shows in progress.
From what I saw, his(Jodos) vision was extremely eccentric (nothing wrong with that) but very tripy.
To match his "artistic flair" with an actually watchable show is a gamble for any network.
But I'd be willing to take the trip.

@@nautilusproducciones1040, apples and oranges. Villeneuve was trying to create an adaptation of "Dune". Jodo intended to create a completely original and revolutionary avant-garde trip with only a very thin surface-level connection to Frank Herbert's work.

@@HoriaNeagu Having watched Villeneuve's version I think it's fair to say Jodorowsky had a different interpretation in mind (see the ''Jodorowsky's Dune'' DVD). He certainly had a different visual approach, hiring Chris Foss to give spaceships some colour, life and personality as opposed to the usual view that NASA/2001 had prepared us for. See the book ''21st Century Foss'' for some examples. Unfortunately Villeneuve has gone for the grand scale but the blandest colour palette possible. Just my 2 cents.

I kinda wish filmmakers were just able to go buckwild and make their own versions of any film and story they wanted. It would get messy but there would be certain cases that it would be interesting and you get two good potential movies in place of maybe just 1 or none. Villeneuve's movie sounds great but I'm always gonna want to have seen this version as they were making it.

It was due to Jodorowsky seeing Dark Star that he called O'Bannon in to work on Dune. Then because Dark Star didn't become a success in the States (but was popular in Europe) O'Bannon decided to make an SF movie that was frightening instead of comedic. Having met Giger and having seen his work whilst on the Dune project, he knew who to go to for a completely original alien design. Circles within circles. It's amazing how many times Dan O'Bannon got screwed. Left penniless after Dune failed, when Alien was finally taken up by the studio, the producers tried to take credit for the story, claiming their rewrites negated O'Bannon's claim to the script. Thank god he stood up for himself. If O'Bannon sounds cynical about the money-men and studio system then he has every right to. May he rest in peace.
