From doing an oil change to replacing the water pump (twice), learning the joys of salvage yards and a love of Harbor Freight - your videos have been there with me. THANK YOU!! Outside of that, I also replaced the timing chain and guides (many lessons learned there), rebuilt the VANOS with the Besian Systems kit, replaced both air struts, radiator, CCV, valley pan, accumulator gaskets and manifold gaskets. Very good troubleshooting example. Nice to see you with new project! This reminded me how I did mine and changed the fuel pump on my E39 on a winter 0°C parking lot! These pumps are known for problems and it is always wise to install a new one when you are there. Be extra careful with the plastic pump housing, you don't want to break something while getting it in/out! Watch out if having a "cigarette time out" too haha.
This is an excellent video, I really appreciate the detailed diagnosis steps that is 100% gold -- maybe even one of the best of these types of videos I've ever seen. I think most mechanic's have a lot more trial and error to diagnosis a problem than they ever let on which trying to learn at my laptop can be pretty frustrating when you dead end after trying a few things from 10 different youtube videos. Seeing your process end to end really has me feeling a lot better about knowing what to do next to get the X5 in my driveway on the road again. Great training again! I think I'll start a no/low fuel pressure test right at the pump cover with power, ground and a hose in a container from no on. Good video quality and troubleshooting explanations.
Absolute legend. SOOO glad you’re doing one of these - thought the e90 series would be way more popular on your poll! I’ve got a 4.8 and have had to rebuild pretty much all of the suspension - RUSTY RUSTY RUSTY! Blow torches and very big hammers...! Really looking forward to the timing guide video. If you could do the alternator bracket seal then that’d be pretty awesome too! And a panoramic sunroof track repair (replacing the cables and lifters in the track - not just the quick fix to permanently close the rear vent....). I think the air suspension valve blocks can leak from their o rings as they age - causing suspension to drop, but am not entirely sure where it is.... possibly under a cover beneath the driver (on the right for a uk car....). Single corner likely to be an air bag on your car as you say. If it’s completely floored I’ve found I have to use inpa or dis to raise the car as it won’t work by just clearing any fault codes. So chuffed you’re back and working on another car I have to deal with! As mentioned, have done LOADS of work on our e53 - but there’s always more to do on these (they are worth it though - as they’re so bloody good when everything works) - so looking forward to watching you work again!

Just found your channel and I have to say you are the F’ing man! You are so thorough it’s insane. It’s so hard to find people with your level of understanding. Most shops just toss parts at your car and hav no real understanding of how to properly troubleshoot anything. My BMW is giving me hell. Well one of mine! New subscribers for sure.
Great video's! Working on my 2006 BMW X5 4.4l. Was having some battery-parasite issues, replaced battery and now she only cranks. Never an issue before. Replaced the fuel pump fuses...no luck. Replacing the fuel pump relay tomorrow. If that doesn't work it's onto the fuel pump. Wondering if the battery parasite issues could have caused an issue with the fuel pump (parasite issue was caused by the rear suspension pump that would turn on/off randomly and draw power...next project). Thank you.

I've followed your sound advice for the majority of all the tools I've bought since I started working on cars and it has saved me from countless headaches. Great to see an upload from you again.
On my E53 3.0 the fuel pump actually ran but pressure was not enough, had me going for a while until i put a fuel pressure gauge on schrader valve and found pressure wasn’t sufficient. Replaced pump fired right up. Also even though you hadbit on jumper pack that should have worked.. interesting
??? When you initially found voltage at the white wire (brown is usually ground on German cars) that proved that everything about the relay was working.

Cool video I like those style clamps. As an observation you need to leave at least 1.5 to 2mm between the ears when using Oetiker style clamps . Essentially you over tighten them otherwise. Cheers
I have a E46 381i and this car had 2 fuel tanks and the main tank that has the fuel pump in keeps running dry and the car dies. The other side of the tank does not pump the fuel back to the mail side... Yet the fuel level sensor is fine as it does show that I have fuel in the tank. Help please
My E46 did this I just parked it was getting ready to shut it off and it shut off itself just like I turned the key off took me a while to figure out what it was she turned the key on here the fuel pump but it wasn't no fuel pressure at the rail turns out that the fuel line from the pump itself in the tank to the outlet on top of the tank had split and busted.

I’ve had a non-starting 320d e46 sat in my garage for months now. I changed the rocker cover gasket and since then has refused to start, seems like a lack of fuel pressure. Tried a few things and believe the low pressure fuel pump is working fine but not sure about the high pressure pump. Regardless, thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
This has just answered a puzzle that I had over Christmas with my E46. No start and no pressure at the rail. Put a new pump in and sorted the problem out. But then, out of curiosity, I put 12V across the old one and the pump ran. Huh? I didn't do your testing of the pump. But it's interesting to know that a pump can run but not pump fuel.
Hi! You've helped me so much with all these e53 videos, really thankful. Yesterday I started my M54B30 and it died down after 2 seconds. When cranking it afterwards it seemed like there was no compression, but eventually it would turn over and almost fire up after I kept cranking for quite a while. It never fired up, so I'm thinking fuel issue. However because it does *almost* fire up, it does get some fuel. However since about 2 months the car would take like 3-4 sec to fire up sometimes. Like 75% of the times I tried to start the car, if would take a few seconds to fire up. Can this be my fuel pump gone bad?

As I waited the tow, I figured it was “ƒuel related” and realizing that she’s got 151,000, I can’t get too mad that she need a pump. In your white board explanation of the circuitry, if my car would run for a few minutes I, then blow another, then another. I’m concluding that the pump is tripping the #53/25 amp. Should I😮 head to the DME box also? Thanks in advance.
2004 BMW 325ci. I have 4.94 volts at the end of the harness. Of course I can't get the screw out of the back passengers side panel to check the last relay.
I had a similar problem, but for me the fuel pump was fine, but the white(positive) cable does not have signal, and I was in the middle of BAJA, without cel signal, so I just get a piece of cable and connect to the white pumps( +)wire and the other end connected to a fuse on the rear fuse compartment. problem solved I made it to San Diego after 8 hours, without turning engine off
This is the best car fix video I have ever seen. I watch many of them because I have to work on my own cars. My teenage boy ran out of gas in his 03 x5, I have seen several videos of people saying they ran out of gas but the gage read quarter. I wasn't there, I don't about that but I'm wondering if I can just unstick the float because the car still runs fine but he just has to use his trip meter for a gase age. Do you know if it's the float and is the sending unit the same thing as the fuel pump? Thank you so much.
I have a question on a 5:30 I 2005 when I take the covers off underneath the oil seems like it is dripping Non-Stop from and back by the bell housing is there that much oil that goes into that engine that that oil would leak out of the back like that

Yes that’s true, because the fuel pump can draw up to 9 amps I believe and my test light can only do 250mA. I’ve been meaning to make some home made test lights out of headlight bulbs

Yes, my X5 at136 k 4.4 rattles sometimes. Less now after new chain tensioner installed but maybe needs rails soon. Thanks Eduard
