  • Hollywood suffered a tremendous loss on December 27, 2016, when Carrie Fisher passed away at just 60 years old. Fisher of course skyrocketed to fame as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies, but she was equally acclaimed for her skills as a writer and Hollywood script doctor. She always seemed to know the right thing to say to make something just a little bit funnier.
Despite her famous family and public life from a young age, however, there still may be a lot you don’t know about the multi-faceted actress, writer, and advocate. Let’s take a look at the untold truth of Carrie Fisher.

I don't think a celebrity death has affected me as much as Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds' death added to that grief. So sad and unexpected. I've never been the biggest fan of her, but always admired her brutal honesty and humor. I don't think I've appreciated her as much until after her death.

Did you ever see her contributions to The Last Leg? If not, check them out. She was fucking hilarious! There's a tale of her and her dog - her dog go loose and wandered off into a nearby council estate ... and proceeding to have a shit in the street (the dog, not her ... although ... *has cold shower*) ... and so all these guys out having evening drinks in their front yards end up seeing Princess Leia stooping down to pick up dog-shit.

I saw Star Wars when it premiered in 1977. I was only eight and grew into my teens watching the first three films. I admired Carrie Fisher, and her openness with bipolar disorder was a great help when I was struck with severe depression in my mid twenties. I knew there was hope and treatment. When she passed, I felt like I lost a good friend even though I never met her. What a remarkable woman.

No hate on Disney princesses. I love disney and their classical princesses. but I just don't see her as one since Disney princesses are basically portrayed in such kind of an image. She was not supposed to be Luke's sister until after filming on the Return of the Jedi started.
The "other hope" Yoda refers to in part 2 was Luke's real sister, Nellith Skywalker, who had been placed in the other part of the galaxy and trained to be a Jedi from early childhood.
She was supposed to be introduced in the middle of the last movie and come save the day when Luke was being owned by the Emperor.
Sadly, Lukas had personal problems and the main storywriter left because of it, so they were left kind of stranded and had no idea how to introduce Nellith, and they then just stuffed Leia in her place (which made of course zero sense, but the fans were gullible enough to buy it so why not).

    • @theturtlepwn

@@Amphitera I dunno, for me it looks like it was for the best. Like, in the middle of the conclusion of a story pops up a character whose off-screen story is more interesting than the main character's, and this noname singlehandedly defeats the grand villain because she is better than the main characters. C'mon, it would be as if Padme Patel from Ravenclaw shot Voldemort with a gun while he and Harry Potter had their last stand. Oh, and then told Harry that she is his lost twin sister who was given into the wizard family.
I can't see why Leia being Luke's twin sister makes zero sense. If you mean that they do not look alike, then I'll tell you that not all twins have same appearance.

Having went to school with a close family member of Fisher's, I must say, this is quite 'upside down' from the 'inside family story'. After Star Wars was released in '77, I asked this (very middle-class, very nice) family member, 'she's cute, you never mentioned you were kin to her until now, what's she really like?' The reply took me by surprise (the person I was asking was so kind, so nice to everyone I knew). This Family member said, "we don't speak much, her family is quite stuck on themselves as 'better than us', and she not only thinks she is always right, but she has an ego you wouldn't believe, and I don't like being around that kind of person'. Other details were shared, but to see it 'fictionalized' here as 'hard work, lucky breaks, some mental issues, etc.' isn't the way that much-more-detailed versions of reality were told by someone that I fully trusted and believed 'knew more than the press'.

Her professional artistry aside, the last 4 months of her public appearances really captured upon me what an interesting, humorous, friendly and 'warm' person she truly was. I appreciatively looked forward to seeing and enjoying her each time, but sadly, after her recent (and last) UK visit, I was never to enjoy her personal appearance again. Nothing, good or bad, lasts forever but in the case of Carrie Fisher's demise, I feel solemnly disappointed that it happened so ... soon. Thank you Carrie, for being.

Bless you! Carrie, When one has gotten a fair way into any life your true worth becomes crystal clear, brave and daring you were a great example of how not to take everything about yourself so seriously. It takes a very brave person to do it and of course you did it better than anyone else
Your sense of humor will stay with me forever and I will pass it on to those I meet that need it. Love.

Of all the photos/videos of Carrie Fisher I've ever seen, that small 'screen grab' icon for this video (not sure if it actually appears in the video itself) may be the most beautiful of her I've ever seen (though she also looks adorably lovely at the 6:37 mark ).....

  • @avuncular300
    @avuncular300 Před 7 lety +5

I wish that you hadn't referred to Carrie in your narrative, as 'Fisher', as if she was a criminal appearing at a court hearing. It is offensive to refer to women (or men) in this surnamed fashion especially in view of their recent deaths,. Please use the courtesy titles of Miss, Ms or Mrs as appropriate, to project some semblance of respect. Likewise, Debbie Reynolds should not be addressed as 'Reynolds' only. We are not dealing here with disposable commodities, but hopefully with a fitting tribute to much-loved screen favourites.

Carrie Fisher was one in a billion. So original, brave, wild and more than a free spirit. She's completely underrated as an artist, a progressive thinker and an influence of multiple generations of boys and girls. She owned her madness, which is more than a lot of us do. I'll never understand why she's not more of a "feminist" icon. In this time of metoo and everyone accusing everyone of being this and that, she owned herself, she made no excuses, she blamed no one and kept her sense of humor and dignity. She's an artist, hero and symbol for everyone.

I never forget all those magazine interviews when Star Wars came out in 1977-78. She was such a genuine young woman. My first crush as a kid. I remember doing drawings of her. After ROTJ you could see the weight of the world slowly crush her spirit into cynicism. While to some degree this is a common path her's just touched me more than many others did. It's a cruel world with fleeting moments of beauty we live in. I miss Princess Leia Carrie........................ Eddie was a giant prick.

Carrie was wearing a Bra during the beginning shot's of Star Wars. George Lucas told her she couldn't wear a bra, because there's no underwear in Space! So during the Star Wars movies, well, no Bra folks. She was a wonderful woman & I truly miss her. She was honest, bold & she wasn't scared to tell people she had a lot of personal problems. I give her credit for her being so truthful. Love you Carrie & miss you... RIP Carrie, God Bless You.....
