      @@smek22071975Thats the part Im talking about. Unless you have some hearing problems (you should have that checked out), he very clearly doesn’s say bolognese unlike what the subtitles suggest.

    • @Far1988
      @Far1988 Před 17 dny +2

      It's not offensive in the slightest. The thing he's referring to is called ragù bolognese, or sauce bolognaise in french, aka Spaghetti Bolognese (though it's not served with spaghetti because they can't hold the heavy sauce). Now for him and most Italians the combination of "Ravioli" and "ragù" makes it obvious that he's referring to bolognese (or at least some type of hearty sauce), but for many people outside of Italy, they don't automatically associate ragù with bolognese. Most people probably think of ragout, a hearty stew. So for them Ravioli ragù/ragout would likely be ravioli with meat chunks and vegetable chunks in some sort of stew.

    The Italian soldier is so sceptic all the time and polite for the circumstances I might add.

    To be fair, combat rations aren't really meant to be fabulous. They're supposed to be high calorie, quick prep, easy to carry things.
    I served in the British Army from '84 to '94. In the 80's at 24 hour rat pack (ration pack) was a box approximately 8" Square. Which contained 3 meals, a brew kit and a hexy cooker, which could be packed into your webbing easily. With the introduction of Bint Bags (Boil in the bag) You could (in theory) get a 'better' meal. Heating on was easy if you were on the move a lot because you could just drop one down the front of your Combat jacket. Your body would then heat it so that it was at least warm...ish.
    The most important item in there was the brew kit. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar, powdered milk and boiled sweets (usually Spangles) and toilet paper oh, and a Yorkie.
    I think the combined calorific value was in the region of 5000-6000.
    Nobody from other nations liked our rats. We just ate it and moved on lol.
    I once met an Italian Alpine soldier on an exercise. His rations included some Grappa!!! Only in Italy, lol

But I did see other American MREs as well with accessories like water tablet and drinks and so on. I had canned ravioli before, and if it is anything like the one I had, it is actually quite good. By what I've seen of US MREs, they seem awesome considering they basically only need water, and they're light weight because the US has perfected freeze-drying.
    But if clean water is difficult to come around, the canned food wins.
    Lighting a fire close to the front may not be the greatest idea of all time, as the enemy will be able to smell it and see the smoke... on the other hand, a self-heating meal, and its steam, will also show up if you have thermal vision.
    The original idea of MRE was that it should be edible without any cooking, in than sense I think the cans win a little bit again... eating freeze-dried chili con carne out of the bag, as to not reveal your location sounds a bit dry to me.
    Anyway... serving pizza to an Italian... of course it won't get a great score, but he was very diplomatic saying that you can't expect "home cooked" in battle.
    Perhaps that's something, the little startup, NATO could do better. An international effort to improve the MREs for all members... that would get countries proud of their cuisine (Italy, France, Greece and Turkyie just to mention a few) to pay more attention...
    Problem would be that when the boys return home, they'd expect better food.
    I can't say a winner... they both have pros and cons... depends on who's the enemy and what's the weather like.

That works out at about £6000 per second. We are about 1/6 the population of the USA, so it would approximate the USA spending £36,000 per second / $40,000.

      Yeah here in Germany peanut butter isn't really big. You probably can get it in most supermarkets tho. Some german produced american style peanut butter. It's not good and pretty useless for cooking.
      Personally as I love using peanut butter/peanut paste for cooking, I buy the dutch ones in a asian supermarket.

      Not US fan boys but people that go to the gym love peanut butter. Cheap high protein low carb snack. Black people often buy it too.

    Actually, canned food *can* be amazing (yes, that's a pun, but also the truth).
    If you had ever tried Spanish canned food ("conservas"), you would know what I mean.
    (BTW, Portuguese combat rations include Spanish-made "conservas".)

    The American MRE's are designed to be carried in your pack. You don't want to do that with canned food. That would weigh you down big time.

    I think US food is better. It may not taste as good, but it is intended to be a temporary solution and only be used for a few days. Afterwards they usually end up in a camp where there is better food anyway. The Italians have to carry too much with them.

    • @nicoladc89
      @nicoladc89 Před 16 dny

      The Italian is not a MRE but a K-Ration (an old K-Ration, the Italian ratio has no longer the stove for several years) that is used in mission and contain the food for an entire day.

    Hello, I have an interesting question. Could you in one video react to a video about Finno-ugric languages, I believe this could be very interesting to hear languages that have nothing to do with English, German, Polish or French.
    (English, German, Polish and French all of them belong to the Indo-European languagefamily)
    I can Show a very similar words in English, Polish and German. (I don’t know French)

    Here is "my" real story, on a (NATO) maneuver in Denmark, We got MRE's for the first 2 days (I'm German)...
    there was " EPA " number 4! Insiders know what that means!!!! ;) " Goulash with noodles ", on the first day , and on the 2nd there was... " Noodles with goulash "
    and what does the “kitchen bull” do on the third day? EXACTLY he made the leftovers from the 2 days before because no food had arrived yet!!!
    No wonder we cooked canned ravioli with vodka and red wine out of desperation (to forget about it)
