    As a few people have mentioned, the multiple attacks functioned differently in Kingmaker, in my testing I didn't see them getting the multiple attacks right off the bat. It's possible I'm just running into some sort of issue with it, and if so my bad, but from testing with a few different animals I saw it the way stated in the video.
    (This was a bug actually, and was addressed by a patch)

    • @Nerolunaking93
      @Nerolunaking93 Před 2 lety +5

      Not all animals have multiple attacks IE the Dog and Wolf as they only have bites. But I can attest the Stag which has a Gore and 2 Hoof attack does do all three at level one. Natural attacks do not work like normal weapon attacks in 1E all natural attacks go off and secondary attacks have a penalty.

    • @MortismalGaming
      @MortismalGaming  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes I'm aware of how its supposed to work, I tested it with a few different animals with different amounts of attacks, checked the combat log etc, it's possible I just ran into a bug or something, shit happens.

    • @michaelmoran9020
      @michaelmoran9020 Před 2 lety +2

      Multiple attack is a full round action. You cant get in all the attacks if you moved.

    • @ReignOfError
      @ReignOfError Před 2 lety +5

      @@MortismalGaming Yeah, as far as we can tell from some testing, Mastodon is currently bugged and not getting it's secondary slam attack at all (and i haven't noticed it ever properly causing a bleed from the aggressor animal class, but I've only recently been looking for that)
      Unrelated, but also worth noting: if you're going to do mounted combat, the game calculates your range from where YOUR model is and not the edge of your animal companion, so if you want to be a mastodon rider, you'd better make sure your weapon has reach, or you'll have to have your mastodon stand directly on top of things in order to be able to hit them (also charge will just break, but charge is breaking on its own anyway).
      As usual, animal companions are weighed down a little by being a touch awkward to interact with. The 'popular' ones seem to be working okay, though.

      I did the same thing with my Wolf and went the full Cornugon smash route with Intimidating Prowess
      . Which I might add, is amazing > it fears, trips (naturally) and due to it being an Aggressor also bleeds the enemies which is a lot of added FREE crowd control and debuffs (making enemies flat footed with Shatter Defenses). The rest went into Survivability

    • @L4r90
      @L4r90 Před 2 lety +6

      I might respec however and pick up more passive teamwork feats since I don't like to micro manage my team feat skills with the Cavalier itself, and when it comes to choke points or forced dismounts I like to be flexible. One thing I hate right now, is how the game presents you mounted combat feats for your mount... such a trap. Unless (idk if this works) want your mount to ride another pet? Gotta test this at some point

    First things first, thanks for the content, as a family man I'm trying to get most things out the way via your videos that would require me 2 read the character creator for 6 days. I have 3 questions though; any viable druid mixes? In kingmaker I played true world (due to campaign) + smilodon plus some barbarian and fighter I think for cleaves etc. What in that vein would work best here?
    2. The staff monk, flurry + mount + gear seems nice, any thoughts?
    3. Possible video request: since I don't feel like micromanaging the whole crew as of now, I'm thinking of just letting them do their think (it's a time management issue, im sure I'll break that once I really get into it), but it would be very helpful to hear tips like "just hit X with one level in Y for the Z bonus and you're good.

    Best build I found was 1 mad dog - Smilodon daredevil (build crane style, combat reflex and improved crit claws), into 16 levels of divine hound(hunter), dex based dual kukris. gets to something like 7-8 attacks on the rider, plus attacks of op any time the rider or mount crits thanks to seize the moment (among others) and 3 shared verdicts. with leading strike and instrument of freedom cast on the mount this is insane. It just shreds things on alpha strike since Smilodons have pounce. Potentially it can chain crits into around 18-20 extra attacks in a single round, which is just nuts. could probably swap mad dog for a lawful class that gives smilodon(beast rider?) and be stronger with 3 Paladin Divine Guardian levels to divine troth the mount for extra tank. That's only for a level 20 build tho. Legend would be something else. Ive had more than a few fights just glitch animations and 20 numbers just appear above something as it explodes.

    Just a little precision on the multi-attack of animal companions. If it's like in kingmaker, only pets that have only one natural attack at level one (like the dog) will obtain new attacks as their BAB increases. Those that get multiple attacks from the beginning (like the smilodon, leopard...) do not gain additional attacks as they level up. They make all their attacks at full BAB but do not gain more. So the 'multi-attack' ability is useless for these animals.

    There is definitely something going on right now with animal companion attacks. My smilodon started with the 5 attacks it is suppose to have (1 bite, 4 claws) on a full attack and then randomly after a few fights it suddenly got reduced down to only one bite and one claw attack.
    I did lots of testing but never found the exact trigger, it seems to have some connection with charge attack as after its use I noticed the attacks get reduced immediately after. This isn't always the case though, even if I never used charge once on any of my characters I still found the bug triggering from something else at some point. Strangest thing is once the bug triggers I have found that reloading to a prior save when the full attacks were still in effect or even restarting from desktop failed to fix the bug. The only workaround I found was reloading to a save just prior to when I leveled up and gained the animal initially (took a level of hunter at level 2 on a party member).
    It took me several restarts to even get past the maze while I was testing, and then it was just shear luck that I made it about half way through act 1 before it randomly triggered again. After that I just felt it was too far in to go back so reluctantly retrained.
    Anyhoo, I have sent in my bug reports, hope that it gets fixed soon. Other than this I've been loving the game. Don't usually post on videos but just wanted to get the word out since this can put a damper on many classes.

      @@MortismalGaming I'm playing an order of the paw cavalier and so far when charging with a spear it's not doing double damage, and I noticed the spirited charge feat doesn't call out lances specifically, just says it doubles the damage of melee weapons.
      Now there are several reasons this could be, ranging from Owlcat deciding not to make spears count as lances, to it being a specific kind of spear I haven't tried yet (e.g. longspear) to a bug with spears or a bug with order of the paw cavaliers.
      I've also noticed that, unlike the TTRPG where cavaliers don't take the AC penalty to Ride skill when mounted, there doesn't seem to be anything that keeps armor from crushing your mobility skill and thus making the mounted combat feat far less effective. Of course, I've yet to see a mounted combat roll in the log, so I'm not sure if the penalty is applying or if the feat is even working.

    In Kingmaker at least, the best companion was always the smilodon. Hardly any less tanky than the tankiest other companions, had crazy stats and 5 attacks right out of the gate. Now that you can also give it feats, zomg, what a killing machine you will be able to make!
    There is something to be said for leopard if you wanted a companion with insane dex (and therefore some decent touch AC), but it does only get 3 attacks compared to Smiley's 5. (A halfling riding a leopard would be super cool, though!)
    If you were playing full on combat maneuvers (which I rarely did) I guess wolf would not be too bad, since it trips on bite, so you could go with tandem trip feats and so on, but IMO battles get too big too fast for a trip here and there to be more than just 'kinda nice'.
    In Kingmaker, the bear companion had one possible use (other than flavor) and that was to pair it with the Thundering Claw of the Bear God, the most badass weapon in the game (for me, at least) for a slight boost to its badassness (it caused you and your pet to deal extra elemental damage, with the amount increasing further if you or your pet was a bear). Natural attacks do not require high bab to get all of them. If you have the attacks you can use them from level one so long as you are doing a full attack (on another note, you CAN move and do a full attack, but only a five foot movement). Bab does not come into play for determining the number of natural attacks. Nor does having high bab give you additional attacks. If you have a bite and two claw attacks, that's what you have, whether your bab is +1 or +20 you only get those three attacks. Only certain player classes allow one to use natural weapons for iterative attacks, namely the Shifter, which is not present in this game, only the pen and paper version. This is one of the big differences between natural and manufactured weapon attacks.
    Edit: There is, however, a bug in the game right now that can cause your animal companions to lose all but two of their attacks if they have more than that. Not everyone is experiencing it but a lot of players, level two and onwards, are. Keep that in mind, may want to wait for an animal companion fixing patch before trying one of those classes if you have your eye on other classes too.
