WHAT HAPPENED To The 2017 NBA Draft?

- 2017 was an INSANE time to be an NBA fan… we had the KD era Warriors dominating the league, a CRAZY amount of young talent coming in… and an exciting draft class with some of the league’s post prestigious teams picking at the top. Going into the draft process, although this would change, the top 3 picks were held by the Celtics, Lakers, and Sixers in that order. These were teams clearly transitioning to new eras for their franchises BUT also ones that were extremely excited about this 2017 NBA draft.

John Isaac is such a huge what if for me. Prior to the massive injuries he was beginning to flash some really intriguing shot creation/shot making on a decent Magic team
And even now, the defensive potential isn't theoretical... it is still there and there are a ton of advanced stats that support that even now post injuries. An interesting guy to keep an eye on
Defensively the guy is one of the best right now
o 9
z OK
He's good just doesn't play much sadly
He got injured against the hawks.it’s tough to see. He was like a top 3-5 defender in the league when healthy
The Celtics other 1st round pick led to them getting Derrick White in the trade where Langford was traded to the spurs! So ended up working out amazingly
Ainge with the 3000 iq strat
Nice
@@CarlosSilva-je5spin this draft.
He drafted Kelly instead of The Greek freak and a lot of others
Danny Ainge is a genius
Where tacko fall?
Man injuries ruin this class so much. Lonzo, Foltz, John Isaac, and more all look like legit potential/future all stars who all got hurt way to soon into their careers, basically instantly. Glad they’re all still productive players when they do play.
Ruined it sooo much, Fultz was literally one of the best guard prospects, Isaac can be a DPOY if healthy, and with Lonzo I never seen someone make that dramatic of an improvement shooting wise while being a great defender and passer.
Can’t be the nba without the what if players.
Hey, I feel you could have elaborated a lot more on Fultz.
First off, almost all of his issues in the league related to his thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS), resulting in an inability to comfortably raise his shooting arm. Secondly, last year was his career 'renaissance' - was the Magic's best player for stretches, and there was a semblance of a 'big three' forming with Franz and Paolo. He improved exponentially as the season went on, raising almost every stat and even sinking pull-up threes (something he hadn't even attempted in years). His work ethic was absolutely off the charts as he strived to become what he was once projected.
Unfortunately, this season his TOS flared up in a big way yet again and he had to completely rework his shooting stroke. This took a massive toll on him mentally (repeated setbacks ofc can do that) and he looked a shell of himself on the court. After looking like he was on an all-star trajectory to round off 22/23, it now looks like the Magic will let his contract run. So incredibly sad
Damn I didn’t know the injury came back this year smh that really sucks
honestly didn’t know that his TOS flared up, i knew he has been out for a while, but didn’t know what for
i hope he gets back to how he was playing the last few years with the Magic. i could imagine having to rework your WHOLE shooting form again takes a toll on you mentally
I feel he could've said less. No one cares about Fultz.
Monk 100% would have be an Allstar by now if he was drafted by a competent franchise with any amount of developmental abilities.
sounds like Javale and Swaggy P. A lot of my Wiz players would be better off elsewhere
Glad he’s playing with Fox and looking like a legit 6MOTY.
Who knew the Kings would be the team that knew how to use him best? Go Kings!
Go Kings. Payback the NBA for RIGGING the 2000 and 2002 WCFs and Rigging them ( Tim Donahee) for Shaq and Kobe. That's why as a Blazer fan I often Root for the Kings. I know how it feels when (Stern) Steals A Title from your Team.
Love this channel , keep up the great long form content . I’m learning so much about the past nba and interesting details I didn’t know about. Just subscribed!
Starters:
PG: Fox
SG: Mitchell
SF: Tatum
PF: Markkanen
C: Adebayo
Reserves/Bench:
PG: Fultz/Lonzo/DSJ
SG: White/Monk
SF: Anunoby/Brooks/Hart
PF: Kuzma/John Collins/Giles
C: Allen/Hartenstein
Honestly this team would beat any team in the NBA right now.
No
For sure!
*could
Those injuries destroyed what could’ve been Fultz
Someday maybe we'll get the full story. Just so weird.
@@alandposti thought everyone already knew abt the nerve condition fultz had
@@nawtursav11or gotta be more to it tho
He’s been solid on the magic but yea it’s wierd
@@RRRusan no that pretty much all there is to it, it physically disabled him to shoot the way he always had, tried to reconstruct his jumpshot coming into the league because of it, and coming into the league as a guard is already a big process, combine that with your greatest strength stripped from you.
Jazz really making sure to show up in the 2017 draft will Mitchell, Markkanen, and Collins.
Factz
Spida was a player I liked as a rookie and thought he’d be pretty good and he’s been amazing
Top 3 player from this class
Man, all these post no.10 picks growth have just shown how superior the training systems surrounding the NBA have been. The players all looked raw and got obvious holes in their skill sets but with time and enough confidence drilled into them they became the stars that they are now.
23:45 why is bro staring at me like that 😂😂
Romeo Langford was eventually used to trade for Derrick White so that extra pick they got from trading down did have some value for the Celtics.
Dunno why the Spurs traded white
@@spidamitchell8311 If they kept him they might not have been bad enough to draft Wemby...
Plus they probably thought the 1st round pick they got would be way more valuable. Not even Pop could've predicted that the Celtics would go from under .500 to making the finals in three months!
@@spidamitchell8311mostly because they had expections which he didn’t live up to according to them where they expected white to be a 2nd option next to Dejounte Murray.
@@Alex_Off-Beatone of the big lob-sided trades of this decade lol.
@@tj5180yet White has become a better player than DJ 😂
What a deep draft
now we need the what happened to the 1996 1983 classes
If people want to see older classes, I'm down!
@@moresportinglogically4420do it
@@moresportinglogically4420yes pls
@@moresportinglogically4420yes dooo itttt
@@moresportinglogically442096 and 03 would be cool
It's actually funny how people were questioning if Markkanen is athletic enough and now he has posterized half the league lol
There's more to athleticism than simply jumping high/dunking. Agility, coordination and acceleration for example
Why do you blur out the scoreboard, also great work on the videos keep it up.
Name a better pairing than 76ers and players too injured to show their massive potential
I never understood why Knicks allowed Phil to pick frank just to fire him later that summer
Because Jim Dolan is an idiot. Clearly these days someone makes better choices for him
JI and Fultz are 2 of the biggest what ifs for me
Does bro not know Zach Collins has also redeemed himself and turned himself into a legit NBA player the last 2 years for the spurs?
He was legit last year…. Has been pretty awful this season (coming from a Spurs fan)
Maybe a year ago, but rn he kinda sucks
As a magic fan . Isaac is one of my favorite players on the magic
I remember when they said Ben Simmons is better than Tatum lol 🤣🤣
Me too 😂
I remember when you thought youd amount to more in life😂😂😂
You always have takes that normally align with mine, but its funny to see you like Lonzo, because I don't see the hype at all, and even at the time I thought he got drated too high.
Lonzo's dad just knew how to work Magic Johnsons...well Johnson.
As a Knicks fan seeing that they had to trade for multiple players that were drafted after our draft bust.
What if the nuggets kept mitchell and gobert…
PG: Murray
SG: Mitchell
SF: Gordon
PF: Jokic
C: Gobert
Imagine how big of a dynasty this lineup would have produced
And homegrown overall
Couldn’t pay them all and Gordon wouldn’t be there
Highly unlikely Gordon is on the nuggets also him at the 3 would’ve been questionable fit considering jokic who could shoot but defensively teams would’ve used that against the nuggets and gobert being a non offensive threat who can’t shoot.
Honestly gonna go down as one of the best drafts ever
Spida
Tatum
Bam
Fox
Lauri
Allen
All all star players
And lonzo
Og
Kuzma
Monk
All solid players
No
Why were you blurring score boards?
I've seen a few NBA youtubers do this. a lot of the scoreboards have copyrighted images (for example the ESPN logo) so it might have to do with that
0:40 Lol No. 2018 playoffs was when the Celtics are 1 game away from reaching the NBA Finals when we met the Cavs in the Conf Finals not 2017.
Yeah in 2017 they were 3 games away from making it lol
The Kings slander needs to end. My god.
Jackson & Brown would've been a tandem in the East
Why are the scores in the video blurred?
I think he is blurring watermarks
I really hope Fox gets more than one All-Star berth
we love Fox
Ill always be upset with the Lakers during this timeline because in both the 16 and 17 drafts i preferred who the Celtics picked over who we picked. I liked Jaylen Brown over Ingram, and i loved Tatum over Ball. All great players outright but comparing their career accomplishments the better picks went elsewhere
Kobe felt the same way about the situation, he couldn't believe they saw more value in a kid who's dad wouldn't stfu over a guy who had the same work ethic and confidence as himself. RIP Kobe!
I get why the sixers took a guard cuz they needed one, but can u imagine if Tatum ended up with embiid
Sorry but the 76ers are not prestigious, they are almost the exact opposite as on display in this video
yeah they only have 3 iconic players in their history😂.
Lakers were looking for the next Magic Johnson when they could have had the next Tatum.
The Suns picked behind the Celtics twice in a row. The Celtics got Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum and the Suns got Dragan Bender and Josh Jackson. Draft position matters.
Actually the Celtics in 2017 were not one win away from the finals they were three wins away
I rlly thought frank would be a great defensive starting guard in this league still wish he was a dub
Celtics dodged a bullet not taking josh jackson.
Lonzo Ball is probably one of the biggest what ifs in NBA history. Steph curry with a 40 inch vertical. He had some serious GOAT potential but now all the injuries have kinda derailed that
I was so pressed when Vlade took mf Justin Jackson over OG Anunoby 🤦🏽♂️
Still got Fox so i can’t be too mad lmao
Ngl j Jackson looked intrueging when he first came into the league, looking back now it was a terrible pick though 🤣
@@Keedz yeah i still had some hope that it would work out w/ jjax but that hope faded away real quick 😂
am i tripping or did he say the celtics was 1 game away from the 2017 finals then drafted tatum in 2018, feel like i rememeber seein a tatum dunk on lbj in playoffs
That was tatums rookie year
In 2017 they lost 4-1 to the cavs in ECF with Isaiah Thomas leading them, then brought in Hayward in free agency and traded IT for Kyrie. Next year in 2018 rookie Tatum and co. lost to the cavs in 7 in the ECF again, while Kyrie and Hayward were both injured. That's where Tatum also dunked on Bron so you're correct.
Imagine drafting markelle fultz and lonzo ball before jayson tatum lmfaooo
2019 plz
lmao why did you blur the score in the beginning like it was a damn sex scene will you get sued if you show the score or something? XD
Anyone else remember when all the lakers fans claimed kuzma was better than Tatum
2000 and 2002 WCFs were RIGGED for Shaq and Kobe
Markell Fultz isn’t a bust
Waking up to a sporting logically video is a great feeling
its not a KD warriors.
Its Curry Warriors with KD.
KD just got carried by the warriors.
Calling both Lonzo and Jarrett Allen "starters" is extremely disrespectful
Well what is Lonzo then lol
Who tf is bam adesina 🤣 bruh pls edot the time stamps
Celtics played the 76ers lol
If Markelle a bust so is lonzo
They both scrubs 😂😂
Fultz Injuries🥲
many of the successes in this class are using PEDs
All sorry dudes
Fultz is a scrub 😂
Dennis Smith Jr. had a potential if he wasn't arrogant and jealous to Luka. Cry cry little guy.
Hearing that Fultz was so much more wanted than Tatum is hilarious
#bbn
.
First
who tf cares
My advice. Slow Down!. If you make a 30 minute video instead of 20 it is no big deal.
Seemed fine to me
Drafting well isn't all that important when you consider that 3 out of the first 4 teams have gone to the NBA Finals after this.
Drafting well is probably the most important thing you can do as a team. All the dynasties drafter their core or at the least their star. There is absolutely nothing more important than drafting well
Disagree wholeheartedly, see Sacramento Kings in the 2010’s
Idk Jackson is not a bust he was solid like Fultz
Jason Tatum is very Overrated!! His problem is hes Allergic to Game 7s. His only idea for a Comeback is to Chuck Up 3s!!! Thats ALL HE HAD!!!!
76ers is a bad organization
Simmons is trash n a bust
He has been a all star although most were undeserved
@spidamitchell8311 he's still trash tho.
Nah, lonzo the best player in this draft. Bummer that he’s been poised w injuries tho
