Finally we're talking about Benefica took them long enough😭
Benfica ! not Benefica :)
Yea the 🤡 editors saw the comments yesterday saying they're not talking about Benfica so they informed Gab and Jules to talk about it today
Same as they did with Kylian surpassing Messi and CR record In the CL at 23 but not a word about it because why, the 🤡 editors are Mbappe haters themselves
Are you Benfica fan ? I am and I dont care if they talk about them or not they have a 21 or 22 game streak without losing but that does not correspond to tittles however its very promising so far haven’t seen Benfica play with such confidence in a long time so Im pretty confident they will regain the league title if they dont get any injuries to key players however Champions League Im hoping they can reach the semis like Ajax a few seasons ago and then with a bit of luck who knows :)
@@4thGenna. thats not a record lool most goals at 23 😂😂😂
It took them ALL UCL GROUP STAGE GAMES , 4 wins and 2 draws (TO PSG) to finally acknowledge and praise this undefeated in 21 games Benfica.
But at least they did speak about us.

As a Benfica fan all my life, this has to be one of the greatest moments. Wasn't born during the era where Benfica were successfully in Europe and have mainly experienced sorrow in Europe, Not gonna get carried away but so proud of this team and the manager/Rui Costa. They play with passion and determination as well as beautiful football. Would love to see Benfica win the champions league very unlikely considering the competition but one can dream. I also believe it would be good for the competition to see a team showing you don't need to spend millions and millions to win the competition. It's been dominated by teams that's can go out and spend loads money on players and their wages. This would be a win for all fans regardless if your a benfica fan or not to see a team outside the so called big 5 win the champions league, it's been too long last time I believe was Porto in 04/05 season I think. Forca Benfica
Pity you didn't see Benfica European Champions.
I'm now 71 years old and remember when we beat Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Although some of us aren't Benfica fans per say, we're following the club's progress with great interest and admiration...I really wish them the best while still remembering the 1-0 loss to AC Milan in 1990.
O Benfica e o Porto vão fazer muitos destes otários das elites com dinheiro árabe chorar, acredita!
@@lawrencenjawe9875 that's very heartwarming, you can become a Benfica fan for sure, get into the mystic of the club, discover the magic of all the aspects of one of the best clubs ever
Finally some recognition....brilliant work done by the Academy + very good scouting bringing experience international players + very good coach + a charismatic, visionary and legendary ex- footballer turned President aka Rui Costa + all those that work directly and indirectly for the Club + the Mistica ( feel free to google, to understand what is this about).. still invincible. This is not a work of a season, but of several seasons. Congrats to FC Porto, and Congrats for the BIG 6 Leagues, Portugal included
There you go benfica fans espn fc noticed your good form
About time
Everybody notice, Benfica was the boss in his group. Espn were the last ones
Benfica have big history in Europe. PSG has no history in Europe, only has money . Benfica is coming back 💪
And a fantastic history.
That’s not entirely true as PSG did win the defunct UEFA CUP WINNERS CUP in 1995 and also with Pauleta they reached a few semi finals in different European competitions yes the history is not as big as Benfica but my point is they have some history even if its small so it’s wrong to dismiss it but your right that they took a shortcut to be competitive while Benfica works hard to get there and this season its paying off so far.
@@jackbauer5455 his point is that it’s not even comparable. Benfica is 10th most successfull club in champions league history. Two time champion 5 times vice champion. When psg was founded Benfica had already been 5 times to the final
@@jns447 yeah I know that but he said NO HISTORY which is false but Benfica is a bigger club in terms of fans and history than PSG no comparison only reason they are well known is because of the wealth they have to buy the best players so I get it but its important for us to not to be dishonest. Im a Benfica by the way.
Perfect team to compare greatness, name and titles, Benfica and ajax, now its Benfica, 2-4years ago was Ajax
I think Roger is underrated manager in general.
Fantastic Manager.
Amazing manager.
Superb Manager.
Now yes. But before his only acomplishment of value was winning eredevise cup and getting 2nd in the league
@@evald5373 Against a dominant Ajax side to be fair.
Portugal, Netherlands, etc will always get screwed in the league rankings coefficient because Europa League and Conference league gives out the same amount of points as the Champions league. So this year having only Braga in the EL means we will go behind NL who has plenty of teams in these competitions despite Benfica and Porto having won their CL groups
Yeah, makes no sense at all! I think UEFA just wanna preserve their top “5” countries because they will have way more teams in all UEFA competitions than other countries like portugal or netherlands…
That's what I been thinking it's so fuking true and senseless, how can you ear the same amount of points with a win in conference league while Portuguese clubs go into the final 16s, it's crazy
Benfica is one of the most important European clubs in the history of football. It's funny that we were worldwide news when 90% of the players were portuguese, then we lost the the ride, and for years on out we had teams without a unique portuguese name in the starting 11...and now...now that we "opened" the door to the young portuguese athletes again...we are getting to a point where the love for the club and the understanding of the responsability to be a Benfica player is well present in every player becaus of the love and emotion of our youngsters. We need to hold on to our kids, stop being a touch and go market maker and stop selling the idea that going from Benfica to (ex) Real Madrid it's a big career move...cuz it isn't
Praise the Lord, you spoke about Benfica. Portugal in the 'Big Six', wow. If fthe 'Big Five" didn't keep swooping for the best players in Portugal, where would Portugal be in the scheme of things.
It's best 7
Portuguese league is better than Ligue 1 imo
About time ESPN gives recognition and kudos to Benfica and the Portuguese league in general!
Now beat it into Dan, Stevie and Craig 😜
Thanks for showing respect that benfica and portuguese league deserves. I´m subscribing this channel just because i loved everything they said on this video, 100% accurate.
I'm happy and impressed. Hardly has clubs from Portugal had it so good. Kudos (so far) to Benfica and Porto.
Sporting almost made it out
@@person-ce8cr Oh yes.. that's true
@@person-ce8cr Sporting started off great, and spoiled the entire campaign with having two games in a row with early red cards (which they went on to lose) and then the final game where they held a lead for awhile… they still lost the game. Sporting fumbled so hard
@@Johny97_ Indeed... indeed....Too bad for them (Sporting). Having a TRIO of teams from Portugal at the UCL knockout phase would've been absolutely wonderful....A compensation of some sort, after years of underachieving.....

Thank you ESPN for giving credit to Benfica! 🤝🏽
when the game was 5-1 at Haifa, you could see PSG players smilling and passing the ball instead of trying to score one more....
As much as people don't want to admit it benfica deserves all the credit for what they did. But not only that they did it with class and lower budget compared to psg.
Finally, benfica getting the credit they deserve.
I remember the party Ajax throw last year when they got Benfica on the draw. I think nobody will celebrate this year when they see they have to face SLB.
Last year Benfica was on fire too.
But Roger is a force of the nature with talent players and academy 🔥
O ano passado não fomos bom
Last year was very bad for Benfica, we did ok in the Champions League but overall it was a bad season.
WE ARE BENFICA, we live in a weird system that is impossible for us to hold a good player for more than 2 years. Let's not forget that together with Porto we have 4 CLs, 2 for Benfica 2 for Porto. Why the French is on the BIG 5, for what reason? They are terrible, they have won 1 Champions League in total.
There're years that we are not that competitive in Portugal because we always make teams from scratch, it's a shame that Sporting is not in the last 16, they deserve it, but the Ref had a different idea. We will not win the World Cup this year because of our Coach
The ranking points system is based on a 5 year period so you can't look back further. But yeah I agree worried about portugal in the world cup under Santos, forca benfica
@@jag6696 That ranking doesn't make sense to me, how can a win in the Europa League value the same points as a UCL one...Portugal almost had 3 team qualifiyng to the round of 16 (in 1st place) and still has less points than France and Netherlands this year...makes no sense.
@@tiagooliveira6935 a total disrespect this ranking
@@tiagooliveira6935 Benfica fan here. All that highlights is how bad the rest of the league whether you like it or not. If there was better quality in the lower level portuguese teams this wouldn’t be an issue.
@@1904MA I agree, but still, in my opinion UCL wins should value at least a little more than a UEL one...
Better late than never ESPN, finally some highlights on this Benfica season, it's not just the results, it's the way this team plays, the fact that adding good players into the midfield (Enzo Fernandez, Aursnes , Neres and Florentino are an upgrade in speed, intensity and passing quality to Weigl, Taarabt, Pizzi and Everton) together with the work of Roger Schmidt improving Rafa Silva, Joao Mario, Grimaldo, and Goncalo Ramos to levels never before seen, makes this Benfica a delight to see.
This team is capable of mixing Schmidt proposal of a high pressing game with periods of control of the ball and at the same time managing the intensity of the game, making it probably the most likely to reach the levels of the Ericsson team of 1982/83, for me still the last one of the really great Benfica teams post 70s that i have watch live, yes i know we can add 1989/90, 09/10 and 13/14 as pretty good as well but not with the same entertainment factor.
But they still need to add the finishing touch, win trophies...
this guys know about soccer impressive knowledge
Please give more credit to teams that are not from big5
This show is so bad - The fact that they only talk about PSG and Juventus when Benfica is clearly a top team in Europe right now and are playing great football shows how ESPN chose this bunch so badly.
I will surely hope Benfica will progress further and perhaps reach semis in CL. Villarreal reached semis last season, so Benfica can do it too.
We’re going to win the 3 ucl , I want to see that so bad
Vamos Benfica 😍😍😍
Benfica was superb
the best 4231 since deportivo la coruna 20 years ago. throwback philosophy. 20 years ago 4231 was deployed to have 3 creative players behind the striker, since then it shifted and has become, we need two holding players. it was about freedom but now about containing the other team. schmidt top manager.
Love this formation.

It's based on the succes of the past 5 years not 1 year thats why and its about all the teams like this year we had no teams in europa league or europa conference league competeting so already we will struggle to accumulate enough points to overtake france

np for us, let everyone think that Benfica is not the one they have to be worried or not to be prepared. because Benfica is ready for everyone. not going to say we will win always but i can say that we are the Dark Horse and we don´t fear no one!
Unfortunately Sporting didn't have the tip of luck that was needed and there would be 3 Portuguese teams to pass the group stage. It would be phenomenal.
Sporting is the party destroyer
Love your jacket
Why big 5? It's more like big 4 (EN, SP, IT, GE) which any given year have a hand full of teams which compete in the final stages of CL and EL and historically have won most of the silverware. Then followed by another 3 (PT, FR, NL) which often but not always manage to get 1 team to do the same and have won some silverware in the past.
I don't see why the first group should be enlarged to include FR. In terms of silverware won FR is much closer to Romania than to PT or NL 😆
I believe it has to do more with the ability to pour hundreds of millions into hiring the best players than historical relevance (like Manchester City), even tough France only has PSG in that category.
Knockout stage going to be interesting
Are PSG and Benfica the only unbeaten teams left in Europe? Bigger teams...underestimate Benfica at your peril this season! Hoping they knock out a Liverpool for example!
Napoli was also unbeaten, but Liverpool ended the link!
Right now, only SLB and PSG keep the status.

Benfica last season been playing the last 8 for UCL.
Have beaten Barça 3-0 in the group stages, beaten Ajax in the last 16 and all of you still underating them thinking it was all luck, just becouse is not cosidered by you guys as, a rich club.
This season Benfica might play the las 4 of the UCL and you guys will find all the escuses to justify any rich club that will be knoked out by them.
It is obvious that the sporting capabilities of a team are allways missconsiderated by comentators. You guys should start taking more in cosideration the athletic and tactical capabilities of teams and you will be doing a mutch profetional predictions, becouse people pay $ to watch ESPN.
The giant has awaken.
We've been great and all but we need to have in our minds that club football gonna stop for 2 months and the form that Benfica has might change, you could also have injuries until then and a bad draw and not only that but Benfica right now is a team that motivates the opponent because every team wants to be the first to defeat us so ee have more pressure...sometimes football has that psicological part that takes a big role
"Benfica was better than PSG"
Common always the same "argue without knowing facts". Go check higlights of the game, benfica scored 4th goal at 73th minute. Two times hit the post and the Macabi gk made like 2 or 3 impossible saves... Still nice to have your consideration and recognition of our season until know.
Benfica desearved 1st ..... Gattier was already complaining .....
They should have kept a clean sheet against Haifa instead of winning 7 - 2. Forca Benfica
Who is Gattier?
Finally
Lets be honest for a moment. Sporting was robbed of the qualification by the referee. So class system is still very much in place and very well implemented by the UEFA referees. And I am not even a Sporting fan, it was just so evident
Not a Benfica fan but I always like their red/white identity, the stadium I really wish they’d get a wealthy owner
Portuguese clubs like German clubs can't have owners.
having owners its what nowadays makes teams "win", but we Benfica and Portuguese teams will always be ruled by the FANS for the FANS, winning or losing. Sad to see clubs like Manchester united that sold is soul for "some" bucks, and wheres the glory and identity now!?
Sorry no owners.
@@mariodutra582 Verdade 👏💯
Benfica may not have a wealthy owner, but they have plenty of paying socios
"Benfica is the most supported Portuguese club and the European club with the highest percentage of supporters in its own country, having over 250,000 members and an estimated 14 million supporters worldwide. The club's anthem, "Ser Benfiquista", refers to Benfica supporters, who are called benfiquistas."
Benfica was 4-1 up against Juve and then hit the post in what would have made it 5-1. We didn’t score and then juve came back 4-3. It seemed likely that we would finish 2nd. Even our own players only started believing when we went 4-1 up against maccabi
Screwed up system ... Absolutely right . Not just market wise , but I think the champions League system it's not the best either . Only favours the rich . For real Madrid , city , Bayern , PSG and Liverpool fans it's all good , but it's kinda boring to see always the same teams reaching the last 8 in the UCL . That's due to all the restrictions in the draw . There s always one outsider in the semi finals but it's basically impossible to win it . I think that after the group stages it shouldn't matter if you finish 1st or 2nd , if you re from the same country etc .just do a draw with all the teams without trying to protect always the same ones . Liverpool and PSG finished 2nd that means we already gonna see 2 potential UCL winners getting knocked out before the 1/4 finals . Giving Benfica, Napoli , porto even Milan a good chance to get far in the competition.
It's just my opinion but I think they should review the drawing system .
Big 6 leagues? The only thing ligue 1 has on portuguese league is money, literally EVERYTHING else portugal is better 😂
Portugal was ranked 5th for 5 years in a row before PSG took over with their oil money. So i can agree with this
Portuguese league and clubs are very competitive and competent, in last 20 years Porto have won 3 European competitions
That alone is more than any French club, with money, could do, and Benfica its a very big club, they had been in 3 consecutive final, that's, European champions, today's C L, but lost. In my point of view, big 5, whatever, Portugal is there, because of quality, every year a lot of players leave to other countries, not because the football is better, championship, club, they leave because money talks....for me Portugal is there, because every year that championship takes a big toal, and sometimes not even, because when winter market opens, it's usual to se some player leave because there is millions to make, and still they manage to be top team in their groups, and leave psg, juv behind, take FCPORTO, there are 3 clubs with more apperences in UCL, Real Madrid, Barcelona and FCPorto, Porto that already won this competition twice, won the last uefa cup, and won the Europa LEAGUE, against
SC Braga...Braga that is a club from a country called Portugal, wonder if yous guys know that, I think that whe will start watching and paying more attention to Portuguese clubs.
Good day, gentlemen. Dear Juls, would you be so kind in letting that broadcaster know that maybe Makaby’s goalie bought that Lambo from the French national keeper that let in Eder’s winning goal at the Euro’s final at Parques des Princes 😂
Benfica players weren’t even trying hard, if you would have seen the game...
Why is macabbi Haifa in European football anyway
Israel plays in Europe both as clubs as internationally
Because having games in Islamic countries would pose security concerns
Eurasian. They were allowed to choose between Europe and Asia. The same applied to Georgia, Armenia, Russia, Kazakhstan, etc. and they all chose Europe.
