    In Intimate Cello Sonixinema seemed to learn a lesson from Contemporary Cello and it sounds good now.
    And the first Tina Guo Cello library, my go-to library. Especially for slow passages, highly emotional melodies. It's golden.

    Really excellent video, man. Very helpful. Thank you! Pacific and is my favorite, followed closely by or matched by Tina Guo.

    I am looking forward to the Performance Samples Solo strings coming out. I reached for the freebie along all others on a recent Batman collab with a student. It is so dark and lilting. When I am playing just for the experience of a cello however I really like Cremona Stradivari Cello. It dominates on articulations and feels like a great VI that knows it is a VI.

    the intimate legato is great. if you know how to work the levers, you can get good results from it. especially using the proximity level to pull it mid range or far, depending on your needs.

    But the cellos have an extraordinary secondary "noise", like it is breathing, nobody realised that? In those libraries you can't find that effect. You can hear the "breath effect" usually in the Hauser's solos, that noise makes the cello so alive.

    Great video, I've been looking for a good solo cello. I was looking at the Stradivari cello by native instruments and I was wondering what you thought of that VST?

    • @ChristopherSiu
      @ChristopherSiu  Před rokem

      I have! I don't use it much - it has a more thin and plastic tone, which I'm not a huge fan of compared to some of these other libraries.

    Pacific and Sonix just sounded really realistic. The others were not bad. Nucleus and Apocalyptica fell short though.

    • @minder01
      @minder01 Před rokem +1

      As they tend to do.
      They’re libraries meant for that “epic” market. Unrealistic as hell.

    I really like the sound from Pacific solo cello. A few notables not in the video would be Bohemian Cello and Spitfire Solo Cello. The only issue I have with Spitfire's total performance solo instruments is that the rebow on the cello and violin are very short and not very good.

    • @ChristopherSiu

      @@Lasolius its actually really good top 5 i would say. tinas sounds great but it always had a delay in the attack.. most people are using the libraries with pianos midi and we want the attack on the note. so we don't have to try to play behind the beat or move the notes in post. they finally fixed it with their tina 2 or w.e. but i haven't tried it. they also added some articulations i guess.
      chris heins cellos sound way better than nucleus, nucleus is like a budget all around library even though it has "solo" instruments it isn't a solo instrument library so shouldn't even be in this list to be honest.
      chris heins sounds really great it also has like 12 articulations sustain pedal to control slides, key switches for bow bounces tills etc. the sound is just slightly under tinas but it has a million more features and also no delay in the attack. Nucleus also has a delay in the attack but they have a button to fix it.

    Tina Guo Bundle is my favorite. I have both of the libraries. CSSS is aweome, I still need this library and Their windwoods. I only have CSS and CSB so far. Some of the CSSS demo's are really good. Some of the mock ups on youtube as well. I hear they blend well with Tokyo Scoring strings for JRPG sound if you blend them correctly, I saw a game composer mention this.

    100% SampleModeling Solo Strings for a solo string library. It's a lot of CC editing, but the quality of the sound is unsurpassed. And the company and forums are very helpful.

    Tina Guo produces the finest cello sound, surpassing even the renowned Stradivari cello, despite the substantial price difference in favor of Tina Guo's edition. However, I believe it would be beneficial for them to enhance Tina Guo's cello by incorporating additional modulation features similar to those found in the available options of the Stradivari cello.

    Anyone experienced with bestservice's "emotional cello"? I purchased the Sonoxinema and it's awesome and the sound full and rich, but if I just need slightly (!) faster passages it's game over. Thanks for any advice!

    I really like preformance samples and CSB instruments ñ but ive been using BBCSO for some time and for the most part the orchestra is really flexible (except for the brass...). The bbcso cello has been my staple for years now and for me its sound rivalices with CSS ... Not PS... i really like PS

    To my ears Pacific scores way better than the other ones. Although I also like some others, I think their sounds are a bit too overproduced, not as natural sounding like Pacific's Solo Cello.

    I can't find my bread and butter solo strings. Embertone's legato and tone are so good, but the instruments in Intimate Series are limited in terms of articulations. Chris Hein's solo strings are the opposite: the list of articulations is a top notch, but the legato.. meh, don't like it at all. Probably I should build my own Frankenstein solo library made of CH and Embertone stuff :D
