this quote resonates with me so much. i just left a toxic relationship with verbal abuse and i wasn't scared of the pain he put me through but more of the fact that i didn't want to lose him. it's difficult to leave an abusive relationship when you put so much into someone.

Seeing his mother abused by a new guy after his father abandoned him. Abuse was all he knew. We met, fell in love and things were good . Bonny and Clyde. We got into some trouble together. Then he started throwing me around and grabbing my face until I had bruises all over. He finally left me in the middle of nowhere with a truck out of gas and no way to get home. I went to the first house I could get to and in tears told them my story with all the bruises on my face. They have me the gas out of there lawn mower and as I was leaving the old man gently took my face in his hands and said, you need a new boyfriend...😂

soo let's ignore the fact that Maddy accused an innocent guy of rape knowing that her stupid boyfriend would almost kill him for that and! then accused him of strangling her. She was in a terribly toxic relationship and Nate is a terrible human being who cannot be excused but this does not make Maddy's actions excusable. She truly is one of the worst characters on tv.
She pretended that she blacked out because she didnt wanted to be responsable for her actions, but she had no way of knowing that Nate would almost kill Tyler because of it, at this point in the story he hasn’t been violent to her yet - although the fact that she lie to protect herself really foreshadow the power dynamic in their relationship.
For the strangling part it was part of Nate's plan, she did agree to do it but its mostly because she's trapped in this relationship and I'll say it again, the idea came from him.
Not saying she's perfect but you can't really blame her for him being a sicko.

They brainwash you with the little things, so you cling onto hope that something will change or get better. But like Nate’s dad said it’s a matter of time before it takes you both down. You start not realizing who you are as a person anymore. That’s the worst love out there.
I was in a violent relationship, for 12 years . I couldn't escape him, even if I tried . He would chase me and tackle me down to the point where he would rip my clothes off in the street. There are many comments that says he loved her but he had issues. Guys if he truly loved her he would have started to seek medical attention for his issue not this. at one point he may have loved her but he let his issues overtake that love. So she need to either help him to understand what he needs or leave him. Cause cling in doesnt do any good.
When you actually listen to the lyrics of this song, you can tell it was definitely written to be a slow song with deep meaning rather than a bubblegum pop song with a catchy hook. Y’all just here thinking that people, when they realize that they were in a toxic relationship, don’t repeat the good moments (in their minds) trying to change their own mind and convicing yourself that "not, it wasn't" (I spent months doing this). It’s really hard to admite that u were in a relationship like that, being use, and it hurts. It’s not romanticizing at all, it’s pretty clear that he’s abusive (the man literally say she look like a hooker, suffocated her and cry saying SORRY) but even the toxic relationship has some good moments - it’s these one who keep the manipulative hope that they love u and can change.
