Barring some kind of financial miracle I’ll never own TD-50, TD-27 module more realistic goal, worth buying??? Can’t wait to try for myself at guitar center, however I know that maybe not best environment for evaluation: how many people bash the life out of floor model kits, settings maybe crazy messed with

      @@mattryan6886 hi Matt. I honestly can’t tell the difference between the new digital hihats and the vh13, so in my opinion it is not worth the upgrade. Sorry Roland. The TD-27 is still a very good module, i actually use more samples in my TD50X than their built in sounds. So TD-27 would be better buy if you mainly use samples instead of their on board sounds. The thing i really like about the VAD706 is that it really feels like real drums when you hit it. You can’t go wrong with either, TD27 and the non digital hihat would work very well still.

  • @barrycomer3688

    The VAD706 is $10,500.00 plus tax in Canada. I started off with an excellent used TD30KV then added the TD50DP and finally the TD50X firmware update. A few cymbals have been reassigned or added. Selling the replaced items (e.g. TD30 module) helps keep the costs down. Looking forward to the DrumTec TD50X kits being available fo existing owners.

    Once again, Roland demonstrates how they only seem to dominate the market in terms of playability/expression with their flagship models. Impressive trigger tech, to be sure, but the competition is trailing so close on that front. I'm still not so impressed with their sample library, although it's (finally) improved somewhat. If you could load in the PMP samples and couple it with the advanced expression of the 50X, then you could crown it king... and somewhat justify the $8,000 tag.

    • @drumtecTV
      @drumtecTV  Před 3 lety

      Thank you Brian! The playability is great as always, the sounds have definitely improved but there still is a difference between module sounds & a Toontrack sample library. While the sample libraries use tons of complex multilayer / round robin samples etc, the Roland modules as far as I know use much less basic samples and a modelling technology to transform/modify the sounds.
      This major difference is audible, but if you are working at home / in the studio you can hook up your midi easily and make use of the TD-50X great playability & triggering. Have you checked out the drum-tec Silent Studio Sessions yet btw:

    Awesome demo and playing as always Ralph! Curious to know your thoughts on the VH-14D triggering with a TD-27 vs TD50x? Is there anything in the VAD 706 apart from the bigger kick that should temp me to go that way over a VAD 506?

    • @nope5531
      @nope5531 Před 3 lety +1

      Lemme break it down. Vad 706 has the digital hats, lacquered wood finish instead of sparkle wrap, a 16 inch crash instead of 14, a better module with I believe 2 more inputs, and the bigger bass drum. Upgrading the hi hat on a 27 would put you at 5800$ and there's no demonstration of how the hats work with the 27. If you sell the vh10 maybe 5600$ total. Honestly, not a bad idea, still 2400$ difference, the cost of a td 50x. There are some bundles for the 506 such as an extra floor tom that may sway you as well. Personally I'm looking for 0% interest financing and I'd probably get the 706 since with a 48 month deal its only 60$ more a month

    Overall, I would give it a B-....Good sounds but for the price? Hmm. For the amount of money, I could get a top of line acoustic kit or a half-decent mid-range kit and have plenty of money left over for top-tier snares and cymbals. And they would last 25+ years if you took care of them. I love e-kits don’t get me wrong but dropping 7-8k on a kit that will have a shelf-life of 10 yrs (if you are lucky). This might be the world’s most expensive midi controller lol. For this price, the sounds have to be damn near VST quality and the hi-hat still sounds wonky. I like my TD-17, it’s great for hybrid and will trigger VSTs if I need to record. And last but not least...I give Ralf an A+ for his playing, hands down the best demo player on the webs. A lot of folks revere Nick from Sweetwater as the king but for my tastes, Nick is too technical, no swagger. Ralf has both the chops and the swag. Peace!

    all these great Roland sounds but ATV and EF NOTE still haven't figured out how to use a pair of brushes on their multi-thousand dollars e drums? I found that you can indeed use brushes on the TD27 and TD 50 Roland kits ....I have corrected my earlier comment

    I don’t understand why these companies not team up with sample dev like GGD or SSd or SD3. Their samples are always better anyways. And for that price tag?

    Only 14 trigger ins? Whats up with that? Double that then it might be worth the price.

    I’ve never heard a TD50 that didn’t sound… ‘fake’. They just don’t compare to an acoustic. I want to like them, but l’m always disappointed. It’s been many decades since the electric drum journey began, and in the late 90’s it started to seem like maybe we’d get realistic kits within a few years. Now it’s 2021 and they still don’t cut it. It’s quite disheartening.

      @@drumtecTV I have, and they DO sound good but... using third party sounds. For a kit that costs so much it's weird that the Roland module sounds aren't top notch.

    Virtually every preset kit needs some serious tweaking. Its like getting a new guitar FX pedal, all the presets have everything full on. First thing to do is switch the Overhead mics off, it will improve the sound immediately. The ballad kit is totally useless and STUPID. Some one at Roland has no ears and in the wrong job. only about 4 preset kits sound good enough to use. The rest I would delete.

    I think the 18" deep kick is stupid for a physical aspect.. would rather see 16 or 14 depth for space saving.
