When I first started bowling, I watched Roth too much, I had a 7 step approach, then, someone told me to take less steps, I went to a 4 step and I use the whole approach, my game improved a lot.
1:36 my right arm went up. Who was with me? Since he didn't technically pick it up, does that mean Kyle is buying?
Kyle do be lookin like Belmo with the hair and beard tho 👀😂

I just return to bowling, 15-20 years later. Working on the mechanics of my approach, and this video helps with my timing.
If at first you don't succeed: Try..try..try..try again and again = bowling#$#@!
Thanks Brad & Kyle
I used to use a 4 step approach but the starting right away for me felt weird so I switched to a 5 step and everything is so much smoother and my timing is much better
This opened my eyes to why I was off balance on my first step with a 5 step approach .
Thank you
Just switched from a 5 to a 4. Needed to simplify and eliminate variables. Made a big difference. I SO want to go bowling!!
I like it when Kyle just wakes up after a 5 day Bender and creates content..lol
Ty guys, I've been struggling with a 4 or 5 step approach. I'm definitely going back to my 4 step. I can't tell you guys enough how much I appreciate what you do for bowling, keep it up. I really enjoy your videos.
In my first year of bowling competitively, I did a four step approach. When I started doing a five step approach, it helped a lot. I like the five step approach a little more than the four step. Fantastic video. Great coaching.
I've gone back and forth over the years between 4 and 5. You're right, there is no advantage of one vs. the other. It is all about feel and as we age, things change.
I took 20 years off. This is my second year back. My 4 step approach leaves me about a foot and a half short of the foul line. I’m nervous that I’ll fuck up, trip, and face plant along with the ball halfway down the lane.
@@mattgordon1977 LoL... Me too...things are a bit more painful, the first thing i learned was 1. my 16lb ball days are over. 2. i don't seem to slide the way i used. 3. I needed to rebuild bowling muscles...lol...
@@teeken8850 absolutely man.
Love the discussion on approaches. I’ve always been interested in the longer approaches like WRW and Norm.
Love you guys. Bowling needed people like you making easily accessible, high quality content. Can't wait to get some merch and show off at my lanes
thanks for uploading!
Holy crap this video was insane needed. Discussed every week
Great Content as usual - thx
I currently have a 3 step approach due to habit. I use to take a large first step and slow down / slide my foot. I intend to learn the proper technique and boost my average to 180
Solid 5 love it
Thanks this video is helpful as I work to change from 4 to 5 step! 👍
I have been bowling 4 step all my life and was recently at a 2-hour event that featured Parker Bone. He demonstrated 4 and 6 step and he made them both look easy, of course it is Parker Bone. But after that I was toying with going to 5 steps and wasn't pretty, I feel like it's foreign to me. So, thanks for this video, I will be sticking with 4 steps and keep doing the drills he taught us.
thanks this helped a ton!
Great video.
I find that you both really explain a that I can understand
Now let's do the Mark Roth 7-step approach
Or the Norm Duke 17 step approach
Brian Kretzler!
I love you two, I laugh the reaction of Brad on Kyle first released result.
Hey guys your approach work very well. I had to remember to cross over and it work. Thank you guys because I thought you walk straight.
As a 61 year old beginner, I find this video extremely eye opening and helpful.
Recently switched from 4 to 5 and improved my ball speed. This improved my scores and also gave me a slightly longer approach to improve my alignment. Sticking with 5.
It would be a lot better if you would use slow motion in your videos. It's to hard to follow in real time
@@glennchiarolanza1104Go the settings and change the playback speed.
For me, I think of it as an algebraic equation - whatever you do on the left, you do on the right. It is a matter of balance. With the four step, I have the same number of foot movements on the left as I do on the right and it helps me to be in a neutral position when I release the ball, and I get more control.
Thanks for the video. Interestingly, when I look at Danielle McEwan's approach, she seems to be doing more like 3 steps with the 1st step being a momentum step. So, it probably depends on how a particular person is "wired".
Thanks for saying both are okay. Taken to an absurd extreme, adding 20 steps, a twirl, and a jump may add momentum, but there is a point of diminishing returns where the complexity doesn’t justify the mental gymnastics required and sacrifices repeatability. Also, there is only so much approach space, and for me the extra step boxes me in too much.
Used a 5 step approach in leauge to get more length on the ball (rather than switch to a weaker ball) but later on it ended up disrupting my timing so I went back to a 4 step approach; my timing is more in synch now.
Brad and Kyle. When I’m doing my four step approach I have hard getting my ball to move on first step.
I take big stride in my steps
Glad you mentioned that 4-step gives you as much power. I would have thought that 5 steps gives you a chance to build the power.
I actually used to be able to switch between 4, 5 or 6 step approaches (or 3 step if I need to get in front of the ball return) depending on the given situation.
But I actually not stick to 6 steps, unless I need to get I front of the ball return... I went through a period of switching between 5 and 6 steps and something about 5 steps was just putting me off when getting the ball into my swing, so stuck to 6 steps and never looked back, a week later I finished 18th in the all-events of the European Youth Championships, that was in 2009 and I still have no reason to change
Awsome u guys ty I need all the help I can get I'm 55 lefty PBA50 I cant wate get back to bowl
I've got a stutter step right before my release. I never realized it until I bowled in a new center and the pro shop owner was watching. He asked me about it and I didn't even notice I was doing it.
Joel Longo I had the exact same issue. Ever since I’ve fixed it I’ve bowled a lot better.
Great Tip Guys! #Keepingrindinbradandkyle
Yes!!!!
Brad reminds me of Krillin from Dbz lol
I don't know if is your field but what about two handers? the same rules applies? Got said that 2-handers the timing should be late, what you thoughts on it considering 4 vs 5 steps approach
I’m a beginner and my approach is to just walk to the line..stop and concentrate and roll the ball.
Needless to say..I need a new approach. That’s why my husband recommended Brad and Kyle. 😊
I do 4 step with the extra rock-back. I know it’s weird, but it reminds me of a pitcher’s windup in a way.
Is there a velocity difference between the two with the extra momentum?
Could you talk about 3 step I've been using that for about a year or so
Kyle uses a 3-step approach instead of trying to walk around the ball return when he needs to stand too far left. I believe they did a video about this before but I couldn't find it.
@@christopherascherl2411 ahhh ok thanks I just started using it to slow my ball speed down because of the momentum was keeping it hard to slow down
I typically do a five step for the first ball, and a four step when going for spares.
When do you guys go to frontier? I work there. It would awesome to meet you guys!
How did you get into the bowling center?
I JUST WANT TO BOOOOOOOWL
I do a 7 step. Used to do a 5 step
Osku also uses 4 step too
When is the PBA coming back Brad and Kyle
Is there an announcement that I missed
I use a 3 step approach
i was on a 4 step but i changed to a 5 step and my average improved by around 40 pins in like a year lol
The bowling center i go to for pepsi tourny is allllways really slippery, might of been cuz i didnt have my right handed shoes yet but idk. Whenever i have to i use 4 step there.
I like the 4 step, but where should my eyes be? Should I look at the line, arrows or down the lane?
when I bowl I usually bowl with a 5 step but when there is ton of the oil on the line i kinda switch to the 4 step so my feet stay slow
I've been bowling for several years and have always had this question you guys might be able to help me with. My slide foot always finishes a good one to two feet behind the foul line. As far as I can tell, it hasn't hindered my game (I have really long arms). Watching pros though, they always finish at the foul line. What are the advantages of finishing at the foul line? Is it simply just about eliminating as much time the ball spends on the lane or ensuring the ball has as much rotational energy at the break point?
If anything finishing a foot behind the line might make the ball grab the lane a bit sooner, but not by much.
I have this same problem. It does affect targeting. My ball lays down about 4-5 feet past the foul line, but if I dont slide and step far enough left to square up on my target line, I will either miss far left (brain steps in at the bottom of the swing) or I miss right, thinking I threw a good shot I move back right and then over hook.
Perception of the lane changes significantly at the foul line vs 2 feet back. The arrows and boards become bigger, target lines easier to see, lane looks wider, etc.
Today i worked on getting closer to the line. I think i cut the distance in half and i became more consistent.. i was even able to send it up the 5 board, out to the 1 board multiple times without fearing the ditch. Normally that shot would be impossible for me 2 ft back from the line. Hopefully in the next few weeks i will get to the line fully.
It's weird too because it doesnt matter where i am on the approach, i can take 5 steps in front of the ball return and still end up 2 feet back. Lol
Are you able to tell me why I am getting hip pain
I like five but is step # 3 a bit larger ?
I’m comfortable with my 6 step approach
Is Kyle still with Brunswick?
Any thoughts on a three step approach? That seems to suit me best.
Us three steppers are a rare breed. Keep at it ❤️
I like a 3 step approach
Hit like and subscribe if you still have your hand up after that first shot :D Really enjoying all the content and positive vibes.
as a 2 hander i use 5 step approach since i need the momentum + my mind dont like 4 step, it f's up my swing somehow
Hy kyle this is the first time i have gone bowling in 2 months can you give me some luck?
Interestingly enough out of the 30 bowlers in my one league, I am the ONLY one who uses a 4 step approach. Everyone else is either 3 or 5. Honestly bowling in tournaments I get people who look at me like I have 6 heads because for whatever reason, 4 step is really uncommon where I live. No clue why, just is lol
I take 7 steps
I do a 3 step, is this bad? I'm fairly new but I've got ball motion down pretty well. 226 highest so far. EDIT: By that I mean am I limiting myself by doing this? Or is there any rules against this?
I three step, I can four step but I prefer three. There are no rules or limitations really apart from momentum would allow you to generate more power? I sometime four step for this reason just to get more momentum.
I believe the best speed to be hitting the pocket at is from 16-18mph (don't quote me on that) so if you can still generate that speed without forcing it then you're fine ☺️ do whatever feels more comfortable. Try out the different approachs and see how you feel
@@thenamebejake :) thank you, my average speed with just throwing it without forcing more or less speed is about 14mph. So I might want to work on some momentum, thanks for the input!
Its Adam by the way
I take smaller steps, so a 5 step helps lengthen the distance of my approach.
I had my hand up and I didn't see you make the 5 pin.....
i just started bowling in a league, unfortunately my body is locked into a 3 step timing and its really awkward trying to break out of it. Any tips for rewiring yourself?
Hey, how are you getting on?
I currently still do a three step because I just prefer it and I've never seen anyone else do it 😂 so nice to meet you my fellow three stepper!
What I done to learn the four step is I played a few practice games every week for maybe three weeks using the new approach 4/5 step and regardless of the painful scores I stuck to it until I could do it without hesitating or tripping over myself through over-thinking... I naturally bowl quite fast so slowing down was a struggle but it really helped to flow through the steps.
I sometimes go to a four if I'm not getting the power I need and find myself going back down to a three after a few shots.
@@thenamebejake Hey thanks for the reply, I also ground through some practice sessions forcing myself into a 4 step approach. Still need a lot of work but enjoying the journey so far.
It's tough seeing your scores drop but if you want to learn something new it will get worse before it gets better! Just have to try to stick it and see if it is for you 😊 as I mentioned I still do a three step out of preference 😂
This is the 2nd funniest CZcams video that compares a 4-step and 5-step approach.
I just saw a guy do a 3 step approach recently. It looked so weird!
I prefer a three step and I get the same reaction 😂
I have a 6 step approach and I’m trying to change it to 5
double momentum step ftw
i do a four step approach because for me foot work is a bitch and im very good at it, so i take 4 steps to make it less complicated, i used to do 5 steps but then i would start to drift and my ball would be far from my ankle, so i stopped taking 5 steps and started 4 steps
1 word. SHAVE
Who else clicked thinking it was a video for step 4+5 of a 12 step program advice? 🤣Bowling is good stuff though!!
I recently added the fifth step. It helped me free up. But, whatever you do, dont move the ball! It wont go well for you. Lol
So, why not coment on the gratest pba 3 steper?
Doesn't Norm Duke have 7 steps?
Used to. Now I think he uses 6. Mark Roth sometimes used 7.
Brad Miller has more hair in this video I think.
Stone 5 on that four step approach haha
not true the four is a rush approch with a more steeper downswing and you pick up on the ball the five is a flat swing at the bottom and you reach and the trailing leg is more bent and the four step the trailing leg is straight
I find it hard to believe that a 5-step two-handed approach isn’t the most optimal
Generates the most power, if you can control it
kyle needs a shave!
And then there's the method where you completely ignore your steps and just try to get rid of the ball before you hit the lane.
Often accompanied by "I suck" and not "What am I doing wrong?" When you try to help, they make it seem like any pointers would ruin their fun of saying how much they suck.
This was random, but it's a pet peeve of mine. Those people who shut down any advice as if they have a reputation of being laughably bad to keep up
Why is this looking like its in front of a green screen
lookalike belmo..
Norm Duke take like a million steps.
Kyle you are looking squalid and unkempt...LOL....Hope you guys and your familia are doing well!!!
Dang brad really needs a haircut
Kyle, all you need is to throw 2 handed and you can fool people into thinking you are Belmo HAHAHAH
i have never been the 4th view
First?
please grow out you beards so you can do another bet with kris
Can we see some 2 handed bowling lessons? 🤣
YOU LUCKY BITCHES CAN STILL DO BOWLING ima go depressed if i cant go bowling its driving me mad i got a 288 the week before lockdown and i wanted my first 300 (im 15) grrrrr
