    I didn't even realize the actually made new Jetsons episodes in the 80s. I assumed they were all from the 60s. For the right price I'll pick this up, the restoration is very nice. I enjoyed the show more than the Flintstones as it was on before I left for school in the morning and the Flintstones were only on at lunch, and the kids who went home at lunch we able to watch them. I think having the Jetson movie added to their 80s kid appeal too!

    My opinion if you were born between Roughly 1964 to 1972, then you were one of the lucky ones who lives in a world where you could enjoy both the syndicated shows like The Flintstones and The Jetsons and so forth but also see all of the new Saturday morning stuff as well such as Scooby-Doo and the Super Friends. Hanna-Barbera was a huge part of my growing up along with Sid and Marty Krofft.

    I remember fondly watching these in syndication after school growing up. Yesterday I started watching my copy of the Blu-Ray set which came last week - and besides the color vibrancy there’s some great detail, texture, and brushwork in the backgrounds that was never apparent before. The original sponsor commercials are a fun new thing to see too. I’m so glad to have these in HD!

    The negatives used 35mm film. The standard for 35mm is supposed to be 4K, nor 2K. 2K is for 16mm. As for the comments about colors, the response to color is subject to the transfer/scanning technology and it's sensitivity to color. This can distort color. I do have some issues about the skin tones. They are too magenta. That was not part of the original color models for these characters. They were more "peachy," or Tan #s 2-5. But thanks for your enthusiasm.

    I have the original first season digipack DVD set from 2004, and it seems this release indeed does not have the title cards which were inserted into the episodes as they were re running in syndication back during the mid/late '80s and onward which show alien pet Orbitty from the revival seasons as those were being concurrently broadcast at the same time. That would appear to be the case as WBHV used the syndicated versions for the original '04 set and Diamond Collection reissue, and thus that is why those appeared on them. The new BD set looks to be recreating how the series first aired as there indeed were no title cards at all back during it's prime time run. The sponsor bits after the intro sound cool, as the source used here appear to be the OG broadcast prints as opposed to the aforementioned syndicated prints used on the DVD's.
    Also on that note, i haven't seen all that much of the '80s revival run beside a scattered few episodes on CN as a little kid as well as the two TV specials Rockin' with Judy Jetson and Jetsons Meet the Flintstones plus of course the 1990 film, and they were all decent but the original '60s run is definitely the best of them and my favorite of the bunch.

    I was reading on Wikipedia that the 1980's seasons were able to get all the original voice actors from 1962, and each episode cost $300,000 to make ... wow. I assume they animated it here in The States, and not Korea. I'm not a fan of the 80's episodes. They lack a certain something. Probably just my own fussiness there.
    That original theme tune by Hoyt Curtin, that is something else. The band is on fire, and he uses so many fun motifs (like chopsticks, for example, and the oompah-pah melody after "His boy, Elroy"). When I was little I did not appreciate it.
    Funny that Warner would release this BD before The Flintstones, but what do I know. I just hope the blu ray colors here aren't _too_ vivid; sometimes they can appear garish and look as if the intensity has been turned up too much.

      I hope so! I think things like The Jetsons and Johnny Quest may have been tests to see if the Blu-ray market would support older animation releases. However, the Blu release of Scooby-Doo, Where Are You and The New Scooby-Doo Movies from Warner Brothers proper (not Warner Archive) points to a very real possibility that we may see Fred and Barney on Blu-ray sooner, rather than later. Classic animation on Blu-ray has taken off like lightning, especially since 2019. If we keep supporting these releases and send that message to the studios (like Warner) that we will buy classic cartoons, it seems like they’ll keep releasing the best of the best on Blu.

    The way you tell the difference between the 60s Jetsons and the 80s Jetsons is that the 80s ones had that springy type character. Having grown up in the 70s I only ever saw the original series. From what little I've seen of the 80s version, I haven't liked.

    • @StevenVillman
      @StevenVillman Před 5 lety +1

      Also, the picture quality was *_vastly_* superior on most of the 1980's episodes (all but 6 of Season 2 and all episodes of Season 3); they were (mostly) animated with digital ink-and-paint and then shot onto digital video like modern 2D animation is today, so no film grain was present there!

      Amazon did not seem to get their stock, but lots of other retailers have it right now, if you feel like canceling your existing order and getting it from someone else. Best Buy and Deep Discount have it for 25 and Bullmoose has it for 24. I don’t know what’s up with Amazon’s stock, but they are not reliable with Warner Archive titles for some reason.

      @@CerealAtMidnight Okay... but what about people in Canada??? (What is unlike Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Bullmoose.com, etc. won't ship to Canada, and us Canadians don't like paying much higher prices than you Americans down there!)

      Then if you want it, wait for Amazon's stock to resupply, since Amazon ships anywhere. It's currently 33 dollars Canadian from U.S. Amazon. I did't make this set, but I am trying to help offer some suggestions as far as to how to get it.

    Studios need to realize that the older the show the more price effects the sale. This here is a very reasonable price. If they could do 20 and toss it in target and walmarts it would do well I think.

    I wish Warner Bros. would quit being cheap and stop the DVD-R process of recording TV shows. I'll never understand that. Family Matters for example, looks terrible half way into the series because of that. Maybe I'm just too picky.

      DVD-r media can be very finnicky as far as what devices it will play on, and I'm not a fan. For what it's worth, all Warner Archive Blu-rays are pressed, not burned. They aren't recordable media, they're factory pressed.
