  • Manchester United's hunt for a new striker looks like ending with Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund. A player who, when you examine the strikers Eric Ten Hag has used across his managerial career, could be the final piece in his tactical puzzle.

I was so disappointed in Weghorst because he seemed like a great guy and teammate, played hard and did exactly what was asked of him...except score goals. He is exactly the type of veteran player you want helping to lead your club but he just wasn't up to standard. I wish him the best with the rest of his career.

I got a very good feeling about Hojlund. Ten Hag is going to turn him into a beast. In 2-3 years, everyone will be singing his name. Bruno's holywood passes and Eriksen's precision will give him all the chances that he needs to do what he does best, which is score. Imagine if Weghorst score half of the chances he squandered. He would leave united with at least 7 PL goals. Now imagine having an instinctive goal scorer at the end of such chances for over 30 PL games. This is gonna be an exciting one.

If United does get Hojlund, they won't get him for less than 50m, which is 30-35m less than Atalanta's outrageously overpriced evaluation. That would bring their three signings to a total of about 150m. 55m on Mount, 47mil, Onana and 50mil on Hojlund. The question that the United fanbase should be asking is why spend 150 mil on three when that could have been used on Kane 100m and still have Hojlund for 50mil. As was pointed out, Kane does everything Ten Hag wants.....and he's a proven scorer. I don't by into the financial aspect that is being referenced. Of course you're not going to get any re sale on Kane but you will get goals which is what they were missing last year. When United got Van Persie.....does anyone think they were worried about re sale value. No, they wanted a goal scorer.....and he delivered....and the results.....A prem Title. Kane was the obvious choice and still is the obvious choice. United can't afford to wait for Hojlund, at 20, to develop while competiting against City, Arsenal, a revitalized Liverpool, a revitalized Newcastle and Chelsea. Not to mention the Brentfords and Brightons, who combined were 3-1 against United last year. The truth is, they should have gone after Kane AND Hojlund. Mount and Onana are not going to make up a 36 goal difference to City and 30 goal difference to Arsenal. United score just 2 more goals than 10th place Fulham and no amount of playing out from the back is going to increase that output. Only Goal Scorers do that. United might now play pretty attractive football........BUT CAN"T SCORE GOALS. They need Kane and Hojlund.

Sancho at least had some record of success before joining United. What has Hojlund done? He is more similar to Antony.

I trust ten hag in this but if it was my choice i would go for kane, everyone knows what he is capable of in the league and would be good for at least another 3 years plus with the takeover most likely happening(fingers crossed)who cares about his resale value, hojlund could take a season or two to get going properly or he could hit the ground running and score a pile of goals this season, there is just two mant question marks around him compared to kane and united can't really afford to get this striker purchase wrong imo.
