Nice finds! I'll wager the ancient knapper who left the cache there had the skills required to turn all that high grade material into some choice points. Congrats on a great day!

I believe you are spot on! Those are spalls that they were ready to use!
      Thank you very much.

I live in florida, and I remember some time ago finding a cash like that, only it was about 67 and all in a pile with 2 preforms on top. Was kinda hoping you would have gotten 1 or 2 preforms. 👍👍

That’s a big cache you are talking about! Great find! I imagine there could be many names for them: blanks, preforms, spalls, cores. I follow a few flint knappers and I see these types of pieces being used.

The artefacts can be real but the soil looks not undisturbed.

As a flintknapper it looks like a pile of spalls to me.

Thank you for the input!! What would you make out of these? Dart points I am guessing?

@curious_archeology what sucks is that's all I really make. Cause I do it as hobby, if I did it out of necessity you could make drills, anything to utilize it really. Could of just been knapping there and packed up camp. Just didn't want to carry those pieces to the next spot. I have a spot I hunt at, big village. I can tell exactly where the knappers sat and knapped cause I find piles of flakes of all sizes and variety.

@@curious_archeology out of everything you found that day the spalls with the hammer stone are the coolest! I’m a flint knapping and I too cook my spall but in a turkey roaster .

@@1luckysob36 What temp do you heat them to? I’m guessing you wear gloves? What did the ancients use? Leathers perhaps?

@@curious_archeology Depends on the stone but the rougher the stone the more heat you will need 350 up to 450 I pile my spalls in a turkey roaster natives would just bury them and build a fire on top of the spalls.
