The inspiration for my "Sailing Ships" were the old wooden Sailing Ships and crews that sailed the oceans throughout past centuries. These ships and sailors ventured across dangerous oceans, seas, and waterways, bringing goods, news, and civilization from port to port. I grew up sailing with my Dad on the Great Lakes and on the ocean in our sailboats, and have always been inspired by the lore of the sea. The music themes I composed for this piece are mainly about the wooden ships from England, Netherlands, Italy, Spain, France, US, and other European and Mediterranean countries that traveled the trade routes from the 1500's through the 1800's on the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, down the Nile and Red Sea, and on the Indian Ocean to India for goods from the East. I hope you can hear and feel the lore of the old seas and ships in this music! Thank you for listening!...Peace! 🎼❤️

Thank you so much Jeffrey! This live concert in Europe was very important to me, and I'm finally starting to receive some more interest from US orchestras as well! I believe when they hear the applause at the end, they can see that my works can be performed in concerts along with the works of our past masters. This concert also had Schubert's 8th Symphony, and Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No 1, and the Conductor told me my piece was just as well liked by the audience! How cool is that? Love those old sail boats…my older brother used to make some wooden replica…USS Constitution, HMS Victory and when I was young my father brought us to visit in Boston USA the USS Constitution. This music you have composed really brings us as if we were navigating on one of them . It would be great music for a film of those old sail boats . Congratulations for your great work 👍👏

Nice to see a performance of modern music with recognizable melodies! This does have a nautical feel to it, rather like a march in 3/4 time. It seems to have a 19th century style, although the harmonies sound more classical to me, reminiscent of Haydn. Great piece!

Being from Vienna, and a former professor of Theory and Orchestration, I was raised on Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, and other "sauerkraut" eaters...Ha! I was also a touring and studio guitarist and keyboardist for 30 years, so I was also influenced by the Beatles, Yes, Genesis, Led Zeppelin, and many other great bands. I would also like to thank the Madlenianum Orchestras wonderful full time Conductor, Maestro Dejan Savic, for all his talent, hard work, and artistic help to make this concert possible! Anthony Armore has conducted 4 of my orchestral works so far since 2020, and has become a good friend and champion of bringing the all those little black written notes in my music scores to life!
I'm sure many of my friends may have noticed that I don't upload new videos very often. This is because it takes me a lot of time and hard work to compose and orchestrate each piece of my music. When the conductor called me during Intermission, and told me my piece received more applause than Schubert's 8th Symphony, or Tchaikovsky's 1st Piano Concerto (performed at the same concert) I thought he was joking with me...Ha! I wept when I heard the applause. I have been telling people for so long that my music would "fit in" at live concerts, along side of the works of our past masters, and I was finally justified with my belief. I also just received an email from my conductor in Vienna, telling me that a well known orchestra in Budapest Hungary wants to perform my Ballad of Wounded Knee at a benefit concert for Ukrainian refugees within the next few months. My music would be performed with a Mozart Overture, Dvorak Cello Concerto, and Mendelssohn Symphony! Fingers crossed! ....Peace! 🎼❤

Thank you so much Deborah! It is always amazing, and such a gift to be able to hear my pages and pages of written notes come to life with real musicians! They made a few small mistakes, though that is just part of having brand new works performed by orchestras. Even our greatest past masters had to contend with that issue, until their works became regular performances with orchestras (sadly, usually after they had died....Ha!). The conductor called me at the Intermission, and told me that my music received more applause then Schubert's 8th Symphony right before my piece. I though he was kidding me, until I saw the video! Thank you Gary! I suppose that's to be expected a bit, being raised on Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and all the other "sauerkraut eaters" of my home town of Vienna...Ha! Though I have also been greatly influenced by Aaron Copeland, George Gershwin, Rachmaninoff, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, the Beatles, Genesis, Yes, Led Zeppelin, and many other great 20th and 21st century music bands, artists, and composers. The orchestra made a few small mistakes, but that is to be expected when they are premiering a brand new piece, and was the same for our past masters. Though they did a very nice job for the first performance, and they are adding more of my music to their performance schedule.!...Peace! 🎼❤

This Madlenianum orchestra was very good, though they made a few small mistakes, and didn't have the proper amount of string players needed for this piece. That is probably because of the slight lack of communication between the conductor from Vienna, the orchestra from Serbia, and myself. There is a chance that the Budapest Symphony is going to add this to the concert performance of my Winter Poem this November for a "re-do"...Ha!
