Better grab a drink and a snack, this is a long one... This requested a bunch of times and while it goes against everything I preach about shorter being better when it comes to content, I hope this doesn't bore too many of you. I did have fun answering these questions and to everyone who asked a question that I didn't get to I apologize but if you guys enjoy this type content I will be sure to do more of it in the future!

Loved it. CZcams is the only flying I get to do anymore...former low time private from many years ago and drone commercial for a bit...I just get to watch now. Longer the better. Former Air Force avionics maintenance, electrical engineer computer Comms person, flying bring a view of all that together for me like nothing else. Visiting with you...(and yes, your reading the questions and talking about those topics feels to me like you could be letting me sit in on a hanger flying session or around the campfire session with the cowboys...hell, I might even go out on the yard and pick up some debris...inspiring.
Anyway. Don't worry about too long...if you feel like there is nothing different going for a while, stick it in time laps and let 'er rip.
Thanks for taking the time, trouble and expense to bring us along. Bringing your cinematic approach is a real treat.
      See ya!

Obviously it took me ten days to finally find the time to watch this video, but I knew I would enjoy it. I lived at Cold Springs just west of the Stead airport, also lived in Reno, Truckee, and Income Village (Incline). I worked line service at Reno International Airport in the mid 70's. Many great memories exploring that part of the world and I love seeing it again in these videos. Of course I watched the whole video because we have similar interests.

Hey Trent, I made it through the entire video with no problem. I really enjoyed it. I've been watching your videos for years now and I've always been impressed with not only the quality of them but more important, I think, is the information and advice you dispense is very accurate. I am saying this based on my flying experience of 55+ years in 119 different aircraft, including float planes, helicopters and gliders. The past 47 years I have lived in Reno and have flown out of Stead. The advice you give to people wanting to learn to fly, buy an airplane, be a bush pilot, how to fly safely, etc. is spot on. The kind of flying you do is not for everyone, just as flying in general is not for everyone but, like most things in life, one has to decide the level of risk one is willing to take and the best way to mitigate that risk whatever their endeavor may be. So, just to reiterate, I think what your videos do for the world of aviation is outstanding! Thank you!

I used my GI Bill to get my private pilot certificate ten years ago and was about ten hours into my instrument rating when I had to give it up. I haven't been able to afford to fly ever since, and while I'm not exactly jealous that you're able to do it and I can't...I definitely wish I'd found a way to stick with it. Flying is and always has been my favorite thing, but it's just so expensive. Maybe one day I'll get my act together and have enough disposable income to get a Kitfox and go flying, but it's both awesome and depressing to watch other people flying this way.
At any rate, thanks for the videos! It keeps the dream alive!
P.S. I did get the Freedom Fox package for FS2020, lol...

Trent, I just watched your 64 minute vid and enjoyed it tremendously. I learned to fly while in the Army at Ft. Knox in 1969-1970. There was a flying club at the Army airfield and they had 5 Cessna 150's. Rental was $35/hour wet. I haven't flown since 1980 due to having married and starting a family. Now, at 77 and retired, I get my airborne fix vicariously and your channel is my fav. I always look forward to your next posting and, no, your full flight vid was anything but boring. Please tender my best regards to your lovely wife. You are truly blessed.

Typically I would avoid long flight videos. This is because most don't have the learned talent you spoke about towards the start of this video; that being, becoming comfortable with talking in your videos. Far too many don't do as you and Tucker do, keep the entertainment going while heading to the destination and conclusion of the video. Great job. On a second note - I don't always have time to watch long videos. Doing just as you've done with using multiple intros to your videos, multiple length videos leaning towards short ones I believe will work well. Nice job Trent. Oh and almost forgot, those who do long voiceless flight videos also seem to think constant engine audio is ok. Really like that you keep that minimal to none and have the low volume music playing while you talk.

Hey Trent I made it to the end. Yes I really enjoyed it. So you know I'm not a pilot and don't have a air plane. I took a two hour flying course. The first hour was classroom and walk around with getting familiar with the instrument panel with a instructor many years ago. Oh and what makes the plane go up and down round and round. I got to taxi all over the airport with tower permission. Talk on the radio to tower. Instructor telling me what to say. After taking of the instructor let me have the controls to fly anywhere I wanted. I soon learned I got lost up there. Found a freeway and followed it back making turns till I found the airport. The instructor landed the plane and he let me taxi back to the barn. Now 67 years old I watch your video's flying around here and there. Peace.

Made it to the end! Just shows the value of conversation :) On the topic of 'how to get into aviation on a budget' I confess I was absolutely dead set at one point in my life to take up bushplane style flying, BUT, budget and the UK basically not being appropriate for that forced a change - I took a flexwing trial flight and was hooked! Financially, if bushplanes are equivalent to owning and running race car, flexwings can be the equivalent of a decent sized used car. You are still flying, but get amazing views, and don't need quite the level of disposable income. Try it before you discount it, and if you do try it and aren't hooked, fair enough!

You can actually fly on an extremely low budget if you're willing to go the Part-103 route. KitFox once made an aircraft called the "KitFox Lite" which fell into this category. And the Part-103 category means you do not need a pilot's license, or insurance, or an annual inspection, or a medical checkup. It's basically regulated as a lawn chair, as long as your machine meets the requirements. But since the original design, KitFox sold the "Lite" platform several times, and is now in the hands of a guy named Chris Duel(?), who still makes them through his company called "Badlands Aircraft". They're sweet little airmobiles, and they're the only Part-103 chassis that looks like a "real plane". It genuinely looks like a baby KitFox.

I did watch the entire video. That is great that Nick is able to build panels for Kit Fox. That takes a lot of knowledge, experience, and patience to get it right as well as an extremely clean look. Who knows, maybe he will be able to get his aircraft parts at cost. He can always just do a little building an hour at a time, with it just taking a little longer for the finished product.

Hey Trent!....I first stumbled upon your blog over 2yrs ago! This led me to the Pateys, which led me to more. I'm now a few months into building a Zenith 750 STOL!! Thanks for helping to renew my love for aviation!!

Been watching your content for years and this is my first comment. Normally the idea of a vid longer than an hour would be a negative but it was awesome. Enjoyed the casual Q & A plus all the different landing sites. You tell it like it is, and I think most are along for the ride living vicariously through you. Great vid

You should absolutely go to Alaska (and take us along for the ride)! 👍
Get your friend Paul Guschlbauer to give you an “Alaska by Bush Plane- tour”, because that is his playground.

Yes, I watched it until the end. Only took a break to tell my wife that you fly into Idaho a lot. We just moved here from California a year and a half ago. Looking forward to our first trip too McCall soon. Enjoy all the different stuff on your videos.

When I started I rented 150-152’s for about $12-$14/hour wet at Lindbergh Field in San Diego. I could afford that. Only flew for 5 years or so but have never forgotten the thrill

Great video Trent. I know lots of us would love to see that barrel role in intro from the outside from the ground or another plane....just one the thing you never see in a bush plane!!!!!!

This was fantastic. Hearing that you bought a plane spontaneously, you want to build a hangar but don't have the money, hearing Hailey was mad at u for buying the plane, the other tangents etc. This video makes you so relatable. I met you at Osh in 19. You were great then, but even better now. Keep em coming

Keep doing what you love Trent you're an inspiration mate

I have just recently come across your channel and have to say that it has been great! I am a 41 yo guy who is well into non-aviation related career. I have flown a few times with buddies, but am more recently looking into obtaining my private cert. You have driven this desire even more with your back country adventures. I live in Oklahoma so it's not as plentiful here, but runways are fun sometimes too. Haha. Keep up the great work! You and your crew make sitting at the computer for a few videos very enjoyable. Thank you!

Thank you for your videos. They bring me back to my younger years when I played in much of the area in which you fly. I enjoy trying to identify your location of which I traveled, on the ground, of course.
A suggestion: a video of the same type showing all the once great fishing lakes of the Sierras just north and south of highway 70. I know much of that area has so sadly burned. Thanks again.

Trent, I just had a leisurely lunch in front of my computer with you flying round having an interesting Q&A session while operating off some wonderful bush strips! As a change from your usual style it was great, maybe one of these every two months or so would be enjoyable. I certainly made it though without losing concentration. Kind Regards.

Damm right I made it to the end! I'm a relative newcomer to the channel and I'm enjoying getting through the back catalogue! Inspiring stuff Trent, keep it up and fly safe. All the best from Sydney Australia.

  • @jamesordwayultralightpilot

I made it bro. Thanks for the tour. I'm gonna be doing some east coast back country flying soon. I have a Quicksilver MX Sport. Different type of plane different scenery. I don't think I'll ever be as good at editing tho. You're the best. Stay safe.

Made it to the end, thanks for taking us along for the ride! For a future video, could you do a “What can you roll over with bush wheels”? Compared to a 172 I’m curious what kind of stuff they open access to and what your personal limit would be.
