When we tell people that 'we believe the Quran alone is all we need'
They will respond by claiming we have denied the sunna of the messenger because God says "obey God and the messenger" in the Quran
And they claim that 'obey God' refers to the Quran, and 'obey the messenger' with the books of Hadith and Sunna
So they believe that 'obey God and the messenger' is to follow two different sources.
So let's study the phrase 'obey God and the messenger' from a Quranic point of view
The first Observation: The Quran always says 'obey God and the messenger'.
Never does it say 'obey the prophet' or 'obey Muhammad'.
It is always 'obey God and the messenger'
So it is important to understand what the term 'messenger' (Rasool) means.
And why God did not say 'obey the prophet (nabi)'?
Muhammad had two statuses: The status of NUBUWA (prophethood) And the status of RASOOL (messenger)
The status of NUBUWA - the word NUBUWA means 'high or elevated place'.
This means that God has chosen Muhammad, out of all the humans, to communicate with him certain news, prophecies, etc.
So the status of NUBUWA (prophet) means that a human being is communicating with God.
The status of RASOOL - God tells us the status of RASOOL in the Quran:
(5:67) O messenger, deliver what was sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not delivered His message...
We see that God clearly tells us the duty of the messenger is to deliver the message of God
God also says: (24:54) ...there is nothing upon the messenger except the clear delivery...
This teaches us that the sole duty of the messenger is to deliver the message to the people
So if God did not give Muhammad the 'message', then he would not be called 'messenger' (Rasool).
So God calls him 'Rasool because Muhammad is carrying the 'message'.
What is this message that Muhammad carried? The messenger himself answers this in the Quran:
(6:19) ...this Quran has inspired me to deliver it to you and whoever it reaches...
All these verses teach us that the duty of a messenger is to deliver the message.
Muhammad - the messenger - is required to send us the Quran
So when God says "obey the messenger" we are essentially obeying the 'message' itself
Another observation: God says in the Quran (4:80) "Whoever obeys the messenger, has obeyed God..."
This means when we obey the messenger - the message - the Quran, we have in reality obeyed God
All these verses teach us that 'obey God and the messenger' is essentially obeying ONE source - the Quran
Let's assume that the Quran tells us to "obey God" without mentioning obeying the messenger. How would we do that?
This would mean that God Himself would have to come to earth and give us the Quran directly
    This of course is illogical
This is why we are to 'obey God and the messenger' - because God gave Muhammad 'the message' which makes him 'a messenger'
And the messenger is required to deliver it to humanity.
So this is what 'obey God and the messenger' means from the Quran.
"Obey God and the messenger" is essentially ONE source - the Quran.
We obey the messenger because he has the 'message'.

Prophets are sent to humanity for a reason ....Allah could have given His Word to each and every human being all by Himself...but He has a Way of preaching through prophets so that humans are guided in a down to earth manner...relating to weaknesses and different situations that arise while solving problems of life...thus Prophets leave behind them a Way of life according to the Word of God .....disbelief is the language of Shaitan ...believe in the simplicity of Allah's Mercy and sort out the life events of the Prophet that are in sequence with the Qur'an ... I'm sure there must be some truth in the Hadith as a book of history on the Prophets life events.

The hadiths don't teach you how to pray step by step. You didn't learn how to pray by reading hadiths. You learned how to pray from those who came before you.
The salat was part of a living tradition that goes back to Ibrahim. It was passed down from generation to generation. When the Quran was being revealed, the details of the salat were already widely known. The details of the salat were learned when the muslims prayed following the prophet 5 times a day everyday for 23 years.

    Bro that's the point.
Obeying the message is obeying the Messenger.
And this is in conclusion obeying Allah, because Allah is the one who gave the Message to the Messenger to communicate it to the people so people obey the Messenger in what his mouth is speaking of the Message.
This is why we are told the deniers of old disobeyed the messengers, because they didn't follow the messages.
Let us not forget the Qur'an is full of "Qul" what comes after that is what the Messenger said, and that is what we are to follow to obey the Messenger... his speach...
Not what people claim he said on the side...
If we were there, of course we would support him, God willing, altough this is easy to say, sometimes it's harder to believe when the person is with you, as the Qur'an mentions since revelation is still not finished... so it takes more patience than us which have the complete message already...
We are told to reach out, perform our duty upon the Prophet, or were told back then to do when people could, some orders are not possible to obey today because the Prophet alaihi salam passed away. This is what doing your "salawat" upon the Prophet means, not saying "Sallalahu alaihi wa salam" but actually doing the salah (the duty), be it support him economically, or emotionally or whatnot...
May Allah subhana wa taala give us taqwa and understanding... sometimes it's hard to hear hurting words form the people of the book and the mushriks... and it's important to purify our intentions often.
    Salamun alaikum brother.

Please I would like to have heard the comparison and meaning of To obey and To follow. Some could argue if you obey you are following and vice versa. I think that would need further clarification in view of the Ayat you mentioned. I fully agree the quran should be followed and by doing so we are obeying Allah only. If you are saying the Quran says Obey Allah and the prophet, that is fine but the prophet is not with us anymore , the Quran was revealed to him and he passed it on. So we cannot obey him as he is not with us but we are obeying Allah by following the Quran which was revealed to him when he was alive. The question I am asking when this Aya was revealed, does this Aya apply to the people during the time of the prophet and as he is no longer with us we cannot obey him but only Allah or does it apply to us now?Hope you would clarify on this in your next video if you do discuss this topic again. Hope my query is making sense.

Such are the Ayahs (Signs) of Allah, which We rehearse to thee in Truth; then in what HADITH will they believe after (rejecting) Allah and His Signs?
What is the MIDDLE PATH between Right and Wrong? There isn't a fence to sit on here. Logic, Truth and Reason should kick in automatically.
The latter approach of your opinion is of people who are not Secure with Allah and The Quran.

Say (O Muhammad), "I am not a novelty among the messengers, nor do I know what will happen to me or to you. I follow nothing other than what is revealed to me (Quran). I am no more than a clear warner." 46:9 (also in 10:15).
The words above confirm that prophet Muhammad was commanded to follow nothing other than the Quran that was revealed to him from God.
Some interpreters have claimed that the words "what is revealed to me" in 46:9 (and 10:15) include the Quran and also the hadith of the prophet. They claim that every word uttered by the prophet was a revelation from God. As a result, they claim that the words "I follow nothing other than what is revealed to me" include the Quran and also the hadith of the prophet.
This claim is categorically refuted in the Quran.
It follows that by following the Quran we would be following prophet Muhammad as well.
The claim that God authorised the Quran and also the hadith of the prophet comes unstuck in the face of the following verse:
And We brought down to you (O Muhammad) the Book (Quran) with truth, confirming what came before it of the Scripture and superseding it. So judge between them in accordance with what God has brought down and do not follow their personal desires in place of what has come to you of the truth. 5:48
