How Loud Are Semi-Hollow Body Guitars? Unplugged Test (vs Acoustic)

- Have you ever wondered how loud are unplugged semi-hollow body guitars? I tested it out and compared it with a regular acoustic guitar. The app used in this video is called Sound Meter - it's free.

Hopefully this video will be helpful to anyone who wants to see the difference between semi-hollow body and acoustic guitars. As you can see on the video, acoustic guitars are much louder. Still, semi-hollow body guitars are loud enough to practice even without an amp.

Thanks. I've found myself just picking up and playing my electric without an the amp a lot, so it looks like semi-hollow might be the way to go because sometimes I still like to shred (poorly).

Excellent demo, thanks, I didn't expect the semi hollow to be a rich in tone as the regular acoustic but in my opinion it is fine for noodling, fingering and picking practicing songs.

Amazing video. I'm glad you did something like this! I find myself grabbing my electrics to play over an acoustic and wanted something with a little more sound, but less than an acoustic since I have thin apartment walls

The semi-hollow is only as loud as it is in a narrow frequency range

Nice. You could have used a solid body, also, to see if the semi-hollow was any louder than it
I'm about to test this later today. I just got a Schecter C-1 EA and just to my ears it doesn't sound louder than a solidbody at all, but I also don't know how hollow it actually is, and it's just a normal-sized guitar as well.
it was maybe slightly more dB. But it was so close and it takes 3dB to even hear a technically louder sound. But this is my Schecter C-1 EA Classic

I normally play acoustics but have just bought a AF75T hollow Ibanez (a favourite brand) electric and I find that the acoustic sound from it is too distracting and bright and so am going to sell it. If any one can suggest a way of killing the acoustic sound I'd appreciate it. Have tried changing strings to no effect.
