  • "Think You Can't Sing? Think Again!" (www.thinkyoucantsing.com) is a book by Richard Swan, aimed at dispelling the myths around tone-deafness and inability to sing. As the director of huge non-audition choir London City Voices, Richard frequently meets people who have been told that they cannot sing, but who just need a little bit of tuition to start hitting the right notes. He has never yet met someone who he hasn't been able to teach. There is over 90 minutes of video in this series which Richard has made completely free for anyone to use, but they will make far more sense if you do purchase the book. Enjoy, and do please spread the word!
In this lesson, Richard explains exactly how tuning works, and what it actually sounds like when you're in tune (or out of tune) with another voice.

I like to do this for fun when I’m working around machines with a steady hum; I always thought this was pretty intuitive stuff until I started teaching vocals.

This was a very interesting illustration of being in/out of tune. I thought having the visuals was also quite helpful. Keep up the good work!

My pleasure. Glad it’s useful. I REALLY recommend you get the book if you found this helpful - there’s so much in there that isn’t in the videos.
