    Receiver with right colours used can look rather cool. Great video

    Great video! Masterclass. The color does not always carry through noticeably.

    Masterclass Michael. I have the cool white in my unit. But that green signal meter looks so tempting.

    Great video. I followed a video of yours and cleaned a simular receiver and chaged the bulbs as well. The before and after results were amazing. Very pleased with the end result thanks

    An added benefit of the led is less heat and uv light, which can damage plastics, wire insulation, silkscreen, ect. over time.

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Před měsícem

      The less heat would be quite important especially with a lot of old Marantz Recivers that get quite hot inside as their power supply regulator transistor drops a fair amount of voltage across it and gets very hot indeed, so the less heat inside the unit the better.

      The 12 volt ones would be ideal for a car mod or panel bulbs

      True Bob just had a look and they charge 1.69 for postage but the bulbs go down to 1.44 each if you order 4 or more.
      A cheap way to really brighten up a unit

    I'm not against the idea of LED lighting, per se, but neither am I completely sold. It's not all positive, there are offsets to consider. For certain receiver designs, like the Pioneer X2X/X3X, LED never looks good. It ruins the original coloring which is just right. Other receiver styling is neutral (bland?) enough that anything you want to do looks just as good. For my receivers the Sansui 661 is dim compared with the Harman/Kardon 330B and Pioneer SX-434, so I'm in the process to try LED with that one to try to bring the intensity up to the level of the other two.

      @MichaelYates  Před měsícem +2

      Thanks for the comment Jeff. Yes I think every Receiver will be different and while it might suit and look ok on some, there are others it is just not going to work on. Though the warm white seems to hold up well on a few others I have tried. The 331 here really pops when seeing in the flesh. Rotating the LEDs around 360 while in socket can give a little control on brightness to.

      @@MichaelYates , yes, it was your previous video on installing LED in the 441 that inspired me to try this on my 661, to better diffuse the light. It's still on my bench while I'm giving the faceplate a good cleaning but I hope to have it back in use this week. Thank you!

    Is the LED bulbs plastic or glass?

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Před měsícem

      They are a metal cap each end and a little circuit board inbetween with LEDs on and that is it, no cover at all. But its strong and works well

    • @jedi-mic
      @jedi-mic Před měsícem +1

      @@MichaelYates yes but is it covered in glass tube or plastic?

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Před měsícem

      @@jedi-mic No its not covered at all

    • @jedi-mic
      @jedi-mic Před měsícem +1

      @@MichaelYates right I thought it was covered like the original bulbs, when you show pictures look like it was in case in grass or something. They are plastic then sand it down with some 800 grit on the face of the LED give your better dispersion of light try it

    • @MichaelYates
      @MichaelYates  Před měsícem +1

      @@jedi-mic Thanks. Sorry my picture at 2:40 is a little misleading, its the original burnt out looking incandesent bulbs on left and a new incandescent bulb on the right just to show the difference between them. I do show all the LED ones but lit so hard to see if they had any covers or not. The dispersion has been very good on units I have used these on so far.
