The budget wasn't really increased until SuperS, tough they did experiment with slightly better animation for the R and S movies, and I'd say SuperS was probably the best-looking season tough it all went to shit in Stars when Ikuhara left to work on Utena and the character designs got really wonky with tiny mouths and giant chins. It's really no sin to admit this, Sailor Moon has always been very mismanaged by Toei, Crystal tried to have a more unique art style but didn't have the budget to properly animate it, Season 3 was only better because they scaled back the designs and went with experienced artists who have worked on Precure for decades and Eternal brought back the same terrible art director from the 90s show who made all the characters look like they're 9 years old.
Personally, I love how the gloves appear as she spins in the 90's version, and her iconic leg lifting, but other than that Crystal has an overall more vivid and colorful sequence.
The old ones has no weird arms and legs. İ love the way she streches her one leg to the air and transforms. And of course the transformation music is better in the old ones. But the new transformation is a lot better without cgi! Thank god!

Sevil Aksoy Composer is yasuharu takahashi which he also does a lot of famous anime's soundtracks. Crystals music in s1 and s2 where much better. Really felt so much like crystal. Don't like a lot of s3's music. Maybe 1 or 2 tracks i like but thats about it.

90s definitely, the movements are super detailed, the sound and sparkles on her hair to accentuate when she dips and lifts up her leg. And the contrast of the glowing heart to make her skirt. Her best transformation. The issue with the newer sailormoon is they use the same flat pink color for her ribbons and the generic hearts particles that appears when her clothes form
Why they can't replicate the smoothness of the old transformation!? The original one is 20 years old, animation technology improved a lot since then, but the results are opposite to what one would expects... Moreover the choreography was a lot more complex and elegant...

(tho he did NOT animate the 90s Moon Cosmic! according to sakugabooru it was Yoshihiro Kitano, who style seemed to have changed a bit over the years too) Keep in mind storyboards also play a role in this! at least for choreography, I'm not sure if Shida had boards for his henshin though. Imo a lot of his henshins in general are very samey and I much prefer his older animation style too. But I think Chiaki Kon storyboarded aka planned the choreography so some of it goes back to her. so this isnt a matter of *skill* it's a matter of preference, cus both animators are very good at what they do. And also Time. And also Scheduling (scheduling as in Perhaps Kitano wasn't available to animate for Crystal if he's still working at all). Choreography wise though, def the 90s/ Kitano version. Though the bit with the shoe and camera scrolling up to the bow in Crystal is pretty good animation and choreography wise. But in general its def missing some elegance that Kitano nailed I think.

I like the 90's version more. The choreography is much better and smoother. In the crystal version there are lots of cut scenes, like for example when ribbons for her back bow appear, and suddenly it cuts to her leg. Also the ribbons animation is not detailed, while in the 90s version they include more animation whenever ribbons are forming part of her costume (I especially like when ribbons engulf her hands while she's slowly twirling). And I absolutely hate the way they drew the skirts in season 3 of crystal.
They're both really good transformations in their own rights, but Sailor Moon Crystal's just feel so generic and all over the place?? Like the original transformation with Usagi spinning like a figure skater INSIDE the heart is just so creative and memorable! In Sailor Moon Crystal, yeah I guess the colors are bright and vibrant, and it obviously looks very polished and slightly closer to the manga's art style. However there aren't many instances where we can see any sort of personality or individuality for Sailor Moon's (or really any of the other Sailor Scouts) transformations, we don't really stop and hold on a shot or take a break, it's just constant movement. More camera angles =/= good. *Whoosh* *PING!* *Whoosh* *PING!* The music for Crystal is pretty generic too. I don't think there's even a tune or words, it's just a choir saying "Ahhhh ahhh ooo ooo ahhh!"
i prefer old version even it's just spinning. They can make simple spinning from start to end elegantly. new version is colorful but looking at it some of them like you are swing your arm unlike human like a jellyfish that don't have any joints. perfect choreography for old version and nice try for new one.
They are both equally amazing, the colors and fluidity of Crystal looks astonishing and slightly better while the poses and music of the original are honestly even better. So I think they both get a 10 out of 10. :P
Crystal: better background/color pattern; errors: she shouldn't smile, those roses should be Jupiter's. 90s: better music (no epicness/match quantity), choreography; errors: same background since season 1, I guess they had no technologies/time to make it look more thematic.

She doesn't enjoy it, she doesn't do it for personal pleasure, she does what she has to do. In the beginning of Sailor Moon R, she struggles with that and loses her powers until she realizes she is the only one who can protect everybody and finally assumes the responsibility as the Moon Princess, the only who can use the full powers of the Silver Crystal. The inners also sacrifice their lives to protect her. So they don't smile in the 90s. It's a solemn, dramatic transformation. Chibiusa smiles because she's happy to be able to fight like her mother, who she looks up to.
Both are very fluid and well animated, SMs transformations looks so good with 2d animation. First one looks like dancer moves, maybe they rotoscopied it, second one makes use of more exaggerated angles, it all depends on how do you read it visually. I love the colors in the first one
Classic version is more like a graceful and beautiful girl, while Crystal is just like an octopus moving its legs. And also the movement, the music, and the background is a lot better for Classic. Everything screwed up the beautiful classic Sailor Moon. I wish Nehelenia appears just like Classic

never understood why crystal has the sailors always put their hands out to transform, it was always distracting. I prefer the old version much better even for that attacks it looks a lot more cleaner and the bodies are much more in proportion.
In sailor moon crystal season 2 and 1 ( terrible ) They looked like freaking 20 year olds in the transformations! They were so skinny and tall and 3 dimensional!
I definitely like the 90's version better. The animation is much smoother, the colors are deeper and Usagi looks 15/16, not 10. I hated the SMC version, it's trying too hard to be PreCure, down to the boring overly cutesy animation and music.

この映像ですが、スーパーの時の変身ですけど、左は両手を横に伸ばしたポーズから、バレリーナがやりそうなターンでレオタードに、ロングブーツは片足を上げて後方倒立回転の前半で装着しています。 対して右はレオタード ロング手袋 スカート ロングブーツの順番で装着していました。 最後のポーズは、左が後ろ向きから振り返るのに対して、右はオリジナルと同じ正面で決めておりました。 技術の違いがはっきり分かります。

Okay I love the OG so much because it was my fav all the time. What annoys me is, that all the past crystal anime animations are so stiff :( this was fluid and nice to watch but in the movies.. :(
Not picking sides but if Cosmic Power had been done with the DiC music I would have loved it a lot more.
