For fresh investors your advice may be good. Even, investment in regular funds and other than ELSS MFs also, we can see 22 to 23 CAGR. As you said if direct investment, we may get little more. But control on investment will be little difficult. Once you forget the folio, NO third party will help you to get the amount after 10 years . Banks, post offices, lic,s , mutual funds, finance companies know that people are lazy & careless and short remember power.
1. It's difficult to get 20+cagr consistently after 10 years.
2. It's not only about direct funds. Point is to avoid non worthy advisors by investing in index funds
3. Every month you will get a cams statement to your mail. You can track your funds using that statement.
4. No one forgets about his money. Lost credentials can be easily recovered in this digital age.
