Cherubini was an Italian composer who from a very early age showed a special tendency for music. He dedicates himself especially to the operatic area, although he composed chamber music, sacred music, etc. He traveled to London and Paris, where he settled for a longer time, even during the French Revolution period. He held several positions of musical direction. Curiously he wrote a Requiem to be presented at the time of his death, which took place when he was 81 years old. This requiem has strength from a melodic point of view, but simultaneously with a fantastic sensitivity that touches us deeply. It has moments of great melancholy but always with great musical intensity, that moves us emotionally. It is a masterpiece superb, performed by an amazing choir with a flawless direction.
What a fabulous Requiem by Cherubini! It's a pity and shame such few people have watched this incredible Requiem! For me this is an outstanding Requiem followed only by Fayre, Verdi and Mozart,! Beethoven requested that Cherubini's Requiem be played at his funeral! Further Beethoven regarded Cherubini as the greatest of his contemporaries!!!
