The third and final movement of my master’s these is a glorious mess. The wonderful “visiting” composition faculty had departed for parts unknown, and the full-time comp faculty were dodging me in the halls and ditching me at appointments. No, seriously, one of them simply did not show up for our scheduled meeting, which was a big deal because I was working a full-time temp job by this point. Scheduling that appointment had been a hassle, so ghosting me was not cool.
All of which means this final movement was some serious flying without a net. Nobody looked at the score. Nobody was interested in giving me any feedback, and when I finished ahead of schedule, the full-time faculty made it clear they had never had any intention of having the piece performed.
This is what happens when you don’t “conform.” Oh well.
