Silage is a very tedious job. Because you cut and carry forage, chopped, putting in a barrel and let it keep 21 days before it consumed....
But looking through. I have seen several advantages most especially during rainy days and dry seasons....
I also found it very useful especially on early morning as their first meal. As i don't have to rush preparing for the second meals.
Damn great - I love this technology - Our goats loves it...
We are making silage once every week. If you would like to see it in actual on how it is going to be done...
We are glad to welcome you to visit our Cebu Goat Farm. Located at Maravilla Tabuelan Cebu... Every wednesday or Thursday dependind on favorable weather at 3pm, we begin doing silage...

I would love to see the finished product. For those asking, the black liquid is molasses. It is basically a sugar syrup. The purpose is to give the bacteria some sugar to allow for fermentation. Without the sugar, the moisture would result in mold and rot.

You forgot to mention that silage feeding is part of zero-grazing, which ensures that the goats do not go eating grass in the field and contracting worm infestations. So they end up being dewormed less, saving the farmer money.

Ready after approx. 21 days -- if sealed properly - can store for some two to three years. Leave in barrel till needed - reseal barrel if silage left over. If you have taken silage out of barrel - Do not put unused silage back into barrel.

Actually corn has less crude protein which is essential for ruminant and other animals. It is only 9%. However the metabolizable energy is 90 which is essential for their daily energy. Corn alone is not complete. So it is advisable to give other forages and legumes. Like kakawate, ipil ipil leaves, malungay leaves and mongo shrubs.
