    1:14 set up your environment for better results - 1:44 lighten to enhance image
    2:03 test your audio before hand or use a external mic
    2:20 make sure you background is not messy
    2:40 dress to impress- as you would for a real interview
    3:07 make sure webcam is at eye-level - when talking look at the camera so the person watching feels you are looking at them (just as in a real interview)
    4:12 relax, and be calm...everything will be alright. In fact, get excited! (glass of water)
    4:26 make sure you understand the question so you answer it appriopriately - think of ONE thing to say, then after u can build on it if u wish. one idea at a time, not 10!

    I did HireVue today. Used a bunch of the tips from this video. Thanks for the help! Prerecorded myself talking and realized I was blinking all the time and occasionally would do a weird head tilt. Had to consciously make an effort not to do these things while answering. I think answering to a camera alone in a room was the cause of all these weird ticks since I wouldn't do this in person. But idk haha. Thanks again!

    The company I work for interviewed me twice for promotion in the past. I thought it was going to be a one-on-one interview as or three prior interviews for past promotions that I was successful with. But these past two interviews I just had over the last two years I failed. I can't make it past the first question without my mind going blank and myself freezing up not knowing how to answer one of the most common questions, "what would make you a good fit for this position. ". This is interview 101! Nothing I haven't been able to answer before, up until the hire vue digital interview. I can't seem to get past this barrier.

    Great video! I really appreciate the tips. I’m doing a video interview tomorrow - it will be the first one I’m ever doing. I have always nailed face-to-face interviews but somehow this feels very awkward. I’m applying for a job as travel agent in a very sunny country, what do you think? Should I dress up with suit and tie? Or should I pick a more comfortable outfit? I mean bringing out my Hawaii shirt won’t be the best pick, but wearing a suit as travel agent feels overdressed.

    • @independentconsultant
      @independentconsultant  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey @Daniel! Thank you for your kind words :) the secret here is to follow your guts. If you think a suit and tie feels overdressed then don't wear that! How do travel agents dress in the company your interviewing with? Checkout their website and their videos online and try to see how these people dress! Then pick something similar! :) If you find nothing, a sweater with a shirt underneath is my go-to. It's classy but not too much and is acceptable for most companies! Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions! :)

    Tried to do a hire vue interview yesterday ,I couldn't get past the second question without freezing up , I do really well in a REAL interview face to face , hire vue is the most demoralizing ,dehumanizing interview process imaginable and reflects very poorly on the company wanting to potentially hire you , they can't be bothered to interview you in person or even contact you , not to mention privacy concerns of video..I'll never do another video interview.

    Thanks for sharing this post, I've got a video interview for the first time coming up, I don't own a laptop or a desktop computer, so I'm counting on my phone. Have you done an interview over the phone before?

    • @independentconsultant
      @independentconsultant  Před 4 lety

      Hey James! I have not, but it's pretty much the same thing. Basically, make sure you download the HireVue App prior to the interview (I'll advise you to "play" with it a day or two before so that you're familiar with it). Once you downloaded the app, it's exactly the same thing as the desktop version :). Also, try to put your phone horizontally and put it against a book, a glass or something so that it stays still while you answer. I don't advise holding it because you want to be free when you talk and use hand gesture when possible! If you want more tips, I talk about using your phone in the next video - 5 Mistakes to Avoid While Doing a HireVue Video Interview here: czcams.com/video/J2VnJOw5Cd0/video.html
      Let me know if you have other questions James!

    would a headset be okay? The voice quality is so much better using one

    • @independentconsultant
      @independentconsultant  Před 4 lety +1

      It's true that the sound quality is better, but it's going to be weird visually. Video interviews are here to "replace" face to face interviews, and so a Hiring Manager will try to watch your video as if you were in front of them. If you wear a headset (which no one wears in real life interviews) it will seem like there's something off. If I were you I would avoid it just to make sure!
