The problem with that though is people have kids. Most poor kids won't be able to compete with rich kids, so now you have a caste system. Rich kids have like 7000 times the chance of getting into a good school, i am pretty sure they aren't working 7000 times harder or have 7000 times the maturity, personality, morality and IQ.

There were more intelligent, eloquent white folk but they bet on a black man with name recognition who threw up word salads the way he threw off defenders when he played for Georgia and in his early career with the Cowboys. Legacies, talents - such as art, music and sports, etc should not be considered for an academic course in University/College. Race shouldn't be considered. What should be considered and adjusted is socio-economic backgrounds, education of parents, learning/physical/intellectual disabilities. All of these affect the starting point of a child's education and the progress they make through education and are a disadvantage so that you can't compare them against someone whose parents are educated and can afford to buy the resources to provide an educational environment at home and for those students who learn at a slower pace because of a disability. They should be given the same opportunities to higher education.

If you’re a private company, you still receive pressures in the form of suppliers/partners/etc. who will require/pressure you to adopt ESG before they’ll transact business with you. ESG is a diabolical scheme that’s weakening our nation like a disease and discriminating against Caucasians, asians, and males in the process.

I am not partisan in this issue, but this is a stupid argument. If college = a company, either pay the students a salary or call it employee training and make businesses reimburse employees for their former tuition. If college is instead a public good for creating thoughtful, educated, well rounded citizens, then ideally you would automatically get enough diversity in your company just by hiring colorblind on merit. The issue at hand is, does AA help this latter thing happen or does it just discriminate and divide? And beyond that, there are other connecting issues that could moot this whole dilemma of pro vs. con on AA.

It's not about black or racial admission. It's about the disadvantages that children face from birth that means they don't have the same opportunities as others. eg: Compare a child that has parents with low education, no money to be surrounded in educational materials such as books, etc ... to ... a child who has highly educated parents who read to them nightly from birth and is surrounded by books, art, educational toys etc. They start school with completely different experiences and readiness for education and have a huge gap between the points they are on the curriculum. The disadvantages the first child has experienced will continue through their educational life. That child could have a much higher IQ than the 2nd child but because of the disadvantages in their life, doesn't have the same opportunity.

Both of these debaters are right and wrong in different ways - affirmative action in itself forms a dangerous precedent in that someone's skin color is an adequate basis for the privilege to attend any university, which is inherently an unfair concept. I see no reason why a rich black student should have a significant advantage over a poor Vietnamese/Chinese/Japanese immigrant. Considering multiple studies have shown that, on average, a student who identifies as asian must score 140 SAT points higher than whites, 320 points higher than Hispanics, and 450 points higher than African-Americans to gain admission to any university, discriminating on the basis of skin color, in any case, seems wrong, regardless of who the policy claims to protect. Especially considering many of these other groups (including Asian Americans), have faced similar oppression, though certainly not to the same extent as African-Americans.
Also, while affirmative action claims to protect and bolster the lives of minorities, it actually has no effect on graduation rates in the states it's been implemented in, and has shown to lower average graduation rates for these minorities... How does putting a less-qualified student in college, who, on average, is given more leniency in GPA, SAT scores, EC's, volunteering, etc. help them in the long run? Statistics based on the 9 states who have implemented it have reasonably concluded it doesn't have a significant positive effect.
Also, income-based action is, if done properly, completely reasonable, as someone who is poor will objectively have a harder time getting to where they are than someone who is born rich. This also aids in systemic racism in a way I believe is adequately reasonable, without offering blatant discrimination on the basis of something you cannot control.
On the other hand, I see no reason why Ben doesn't concede the point that legacy admission is unfair for the reasoning that "private universities are inherently separate from public universities, and they choose their own rules." This, simply, is not true - many colleges operate by similar admission processes, and legacy admission is a fundamental aspect of the majority of colleges' admission processes. Again, it forms a lack of meritocracy based on your 'lucky spawn' in life, and also is an inherently unfair concept to anyone applying for college. Both should be removed, and I hope legacy will be next on the chopping block.

ben Ferguson was home schooled by his mom until 10th grade. he went to real school for two years. his parents set him up with talk radio when he was 13 and molded him into the moneymaker he is today. he knows only controversy and acting smug. he is a 40 yr old over sheltered momma's boy who has done one thing his whole life: try to make liberals angry and being petty in order to get attention.

The fact that a radio host can look at a lawyer and tell him he dont understand tha laws speaks valumes. This just show that debating is most just showcase ans who can make a better delivery

@@idlereportbeing a lawyer doesn’t mean you are right. So by logic this lawyer shouldn’t argue because the judges who are more qualified/experienced decided against his wish.

ben can't let Ellie make a full sentence without interrupting cause he is scared of the substantive points cause he knows he will lose the argument and instead acts like an asshole (which won't fly in a real consequential debate...that is, court)...ben would be in contempt and lose the case for his client, which is why he is a sh!ttalker instigating little punk rather than a real member of society. so many people in these comments are wishing they were ben too...this country is f'd.

Admissions should be based on merit and nothing else, this was a good decision and next they should end legacy admissions.
