    Hey Devin, not sure if you knew this or not about matchlock units but here is a juicy tip lol:
    When using matchlock units, as soon as an enemy steps within their arch of fire, command a fire order on that enemy unit and the matchlocks will organize and fire much faster than they would otherwise. I tested it out a few times and the matchlocks appear to fire almost immediately after the order is given instead of waiting for the enemy to walk further into the arch of fire.
    If the enemy is outside of the firing arch, the matchlocks will shuffle forward and that seems to mess up the timing, so it is important that the enemy be JUST within the firing arch. The matchlock unit might shuffle a little bit, but they should fire faster.
    This method is vicious with matchlocks on fire by rank when they are on a steep hill. In testing, a one chevron matchlock ashigaru in vanilla on a fairly steep grade in fire by rank versus almost any foot unit (save for archers) can nearly kill them entirely. Samurai seem to get to the matchlocks but it is still a dramatic difference in killing power simply by manually firing when the enemy just sets foot within the firing arch.
    The only draw back is that it can be micro-intensive if you have tons of matchlock units/hectic fighting.

    • @OfficiallyDevin
      @OfficiallyDevin  Před 4 lety +2

      I didn't know that. Micro would be the main issue there, but if there is a small battle I will give that a go, or even in siege defenses where you don't need to micro as much. Thanks!

Unless you’re playing single playing of course! :P

    • @STRZB001
      @STRZB001 Před 4 lety

      098765 Craper Meh, that’s just your opinion. And that’s fine. Because I’m polite and civil! :D. I’m just a huge Shimazu fan. Mainly because of their starting position. I just love starting on an island or in a southern spot. Kinda like Sparta and/or Egypt in Rome 2. But I never knew people could play online with the MoS mod. I thought it was unsupported.
      But if it is, I never seen a single person play with the same version and I’m constantly online.
      But yeah, I mean, I think anyone that knows how to play a Total War game and something about melee warfare tactics can beat any AI army in Shogun. Or any Total War. Even if they have the most elite units and you have half the army size and starting units.

  • @BrorealeK
    @BrorealeK Před 4 lety +3

    The Ikko Ikki in MoS! I've played this faction several times, it's a fun campaign because the obvious goal is to make corridors connecting your three pockets, which is made all the better by the fact that the Kansai region is a complete mess and always at war. IIRC something about the new version of Master of Strategy ticked me off about it--I think maybe that Osaka castle no longer exists and a lot of units were taken out? But regardless, I love this mod.

    • @BrorealeK
      @BrorealeK Před 4 lety +4

      Some tips on MoS because the tooltips are genuinely unhelpful sometimes:
      1) as a general rule, rural, religious, and peasant/farm buildings give you net stability, while urban, industrial, mining, market, and some military buildings give you net unrest. Traditional industry also helps. At the start you can only build up peasant towns instead of samurai/urban towns, but this gives you stability so it's a good thing. Temples and farms will also help you.
      2) Some trade goods are now much easier to get than others. I think the Ikko Ikki start off next to a productive incense node, I think it's a fortified temple near Osaka. Trading or taking provinces will give you incense for those warrior monks pretty early.
      3) Ikko Ikki are just a tough ride. Historically they were an anti-samurai movement, but also a part of the Imperial court and they propped up the Ashikaga Shogunate? It's kind of complex. Japanese monk politics are wild. Have fun!

    • @OfficiallyDevin
      @OfficiallyDevin  Před 4 lety +4

      Thanks for the tips! Even though I played MoS before, for whatever reason I don't remember the unrest system at all, maybe it used to be less of a big deal. Yeah Osaka doesn't get it's special castle, but I think you can build the historical one instead of the regular castle upgrades, which I'll try and go for.

    There is another method of defending a castle, if you think the interior space is big enough.
    You station your melee unit in column formation behind the wall, preferably under tower or facing the concentration of enemy troops. You shoot them as they approach, and before the they climb over, retreat range unit behind melee column.
    Enemy unit will only trickle up the wall, giving you numerical superiority in melee for quite a while, it's easier to buff them with your general, and most importantly, because of the awkward column formation, enemy unit for the most part will only slowly edge towards your melee unit, while your range unit pound them from both side.
    Maybe you can test it out.
