Vence is a virtual cattle fence we are using in collaboration with the US National Forest Service. We are doing a 5 year study with them. The cows wear GPS collars that can be programed with a fence line. The cows receive an audible tone and a shock when they get close to the virtual fence line. It can be managed on our phones and fence lines changed to best utilize the grass and keep cattle off of ground that is over used or riparian areas.
In this video we are learning more about the computer program and how to update it. The radio towers get placed on the mountain. We also move the cows to the National Forest summer grazing lease. Everything is going well and we are excited about VENCE!

What prevent the cattle from running in the wrong direction when the receive the shock?

First three and a half minutes of the video. Now that is my king of ranching: sitting in the recliner with the feet up. Can you get these systems in Peru?

Thanks for watching. The Vence has been around for about five years but mostly just on testing and not widely used for commercial use. In the last year it has became more available for producers. I have worked for the last two years to get this partnership with US Forest Service set up by getting grants and funding. I only know of four others in Montana using it.
