Thanks for the tour of my old neighbourhood, Johnny! I lived on the 12th floor of the building across from Sobeys on Broadview. You were right. The views over the Don Valley and south to the downtown skyline were spectacular. Glad to see that Dairy Queen is still there. It turned into a Christmas tree lot in December. Great memories.
This was a walk down memory lane for me. Thank you. I agree with needing 2 bed 2 bath condos across the city. I think there would be less objection if the plans also included things like day care, health facilities, parks, rec centres. Too many people jammed in one place with nothing to come home to but TV and the Internet. The teenagers have to have some place close to go to.
Nice walk through East York Johnny. My grandparents lived on Cedarvale ave and Barker and I lived near the Bowling alley and Swiss Chalet. I would grab a Super Sundae at Swiss Chalet on my way home from work.
Bless Tuesday morning everyone !! .. appreciate your beautiful sharing Jhonny !!
Great walk Johnny......The "Strad’s standard tank farm consists of four to eight 400 BBL (63m³) upright tanks in close proximity for the temporary storage of fluids on a project site. The tanks are set up within a spill containment system (SuperBerm®) on top of a rig mat pad to prevent fluids or waste from coming in direct contact with the ground." I've seen these things all over T.O. on your other walks.
My grandparent's house was expropriated and demolished in the early 1960s to make way for the Danforth subway. Every cut-and-cover subway involves expropriation and demolition.
Lovely walking tour , they are building a 49 story skyscraper right at the corner of Pape & Danforth & at Pape subway Metrolinx is building a new underground station that will connect to Line 2 Bloor-Danforth , great video Thank You .....
O my goodness! I haven't been over there in quite a while and had no idea this had happened!! Thank you for showing this to me😮😮
You are making content that is time capsule for future reference about how this city is changing
Nice work Johnny
My Mother, Sister and I lived at 150 Cosborn Ave in East York and attended Westwood Jr High School, in 1965. I used to work at the Fish and Chip store on Pape Ave.
I also spent a lot of time at the Jewish Community Centre on Pape Ave. In 1967 we secured our visa's and moved to Phoenix Arizona where we eventually became
US Citizens. My brother lives in Barrie, Ontario and my cousins live in Port Hope, Ontario. Canada.
thanks js
Good morning
good morning everyone
Good Morning
You are lucky to have baker shops in your city here in US in most towns there are none only in the big box stores and it not good stuff and high price for junk that is progress so they say
I think the tanks are for temporary storage of wet soils (too wet for a dump truck), or for groundwater that seeps into the excavation. The soils report probably prepared the contractors for this inevitability. Looks like a lot of tank capacity.
You daily step count must be up there 😀
Nice walk Johnny! I made a demolition video on this block as well. I have a video of before the businesses were destroyed and some of the demolition of houses and in between if you want to check it out. Nice work!
I have to assume this is the block east from Pape that took away Hunters, which was a good place for breakfast and pizza. I'm sure when the block is rebuilt as condos, we will have, yet another Tim Horton's / Subway / Starbucks to replace it so the block can look just like most any other block.
Yes it is, the corner of Pape and Danforth. Hunters got torn down. I have a video of the standing businesses before they were torn down on my channel.
The Dairy Queen at the corner of Mortimer and Broadview is 65 years old and the Danish pastry shop on Pape is probably 60 if not 65 years old family run business
yup
@@glen6945 yup? To
To which one that’s an amazing feet for a business to be on that corner for so long and not be turned into condos talk about prime real estate . sadly, the restaurant that was across from them on the north east corner I see has been ploughed under probably for apartments or condos
I would suspect they are full of sand and gravel so that they can make the cement that they’re going to need for the tunnelling on site???
More adventures than a barrel full of Canadian MPS!.... Excellent Vlog, Johnny, as always!.... the end... Always in Good Taste... CHEERS!.... Subscribe and be Amazed!
I am surprised you mentioned the fourth
Just to be clear, this line is not about "easing congestion", it's about tripling Toronto's population in line with the master plan developed by, well, developers who have the ear (and pockets) of politicians like Ford.
All these were done by Metrolinx for the sake of building Ontario Line. It is mentioned on the construction sight banner as well. Same they done by buying out No Frills and close venues near Gerrard streat. These shops will eventually be demolished as well for another subway station
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
those tanks have cold beer in them --lol
Lots of construction. Guess that's progress, but I'm not sure about that.
This line is similar to the 1 line of new york
3:20-The pizza place is gone.
Metrolink has done the same thing in Hamilton only there's no LRT going on 8 years now. They bought up all the land they said they needed for the tracks, demolished all the buildings including many fully occupied multi story purpose built ones and now there's nothing but scared landscape and now they want more because apparently they didn't allow for the setback for sidewalk with at stops. There is still no formal bid request. The money from Ottawa, Ontario and Hamilton was pegged at 3.84 billion you know now that's not even close.
