Hey ladies! 💁♀ Do you want to make more money 💸💸 working from home?!? 💖🫀🔥🚒👩🚒🧯
gee i wonder what the next video will be about 😉
How many marthas a month?
Sounds like a wraptastic time!
I don't know if you did this intentionally, but I've always known hectare to be pronounced like Hekt-air not Hekt-are. also it's 10k square meters. Did I win a prize?
Only if your business is structured like a reverse funnel! 🔺
The old joke I've heard about actors like Jon Hamm or Brad Pitt is that they're character actors cursed with leading man looks: men too handsome to play the weirdos they've always wanted to be.
Thankfully Hamm is authentic in his actual life, by being a raging alcoholic.
I recently watched Fellow Travelers with Matt Bomer and thought something like this about his career after White Collar. Not necessarily how he would be a great character actor but how many of his fans are incapable of appreciating his new stuff because they just see him in that one kind of a role. Except in his case... it's not just his looks. It's more like he is an openly gay man with leading man looks in Hollywood that's still massively homophobic. So, at the same time he can't get cast in mainstream appeal roles for a straight audience despite his stellar old Hollywood looks due to being gay. And can't get more interesting character stuff because....of his stellar old Hollywood looks. You know what I mean?
@@Bale4Bond really?
Jon Hamm once caused me to crash my car by painting the side of a wall in a photorealistic manner to look like a tunnel, and I will never forgive him for this.
Thank you for including the clip of the commercial with the fox thing in the car; I was in the hospital right at the start of the pandemic in 2020, and I kept seeing this ad on TV and every time my fever-addled brain would go "is that Maggie Mae Fish? From CZcams??" It's comforting to know that I did not hallucinate that particular aspect of my hospitalization!
weirdly same, and if you also had kidney cancer i'm gonna have to figure out which one of us is in the wrong reality.
i hope it's me
But you should know, Benjamin Franklin was *not* sneaking in to steal your breakfast every day.
😂
“I feel like my life is like an autopsy…now a word from our sponsors!” Strong Black Mirror energy.
And Jon Hamm was in black mirror too he’s brilliant in it
I think my favourite John Hamm thing is 'A Young Doctor's Notebook' with Dan Radcliffe. He gets to be goofy and serious and tragic, and the dichotomy of the two of them playing the same character is perfect.
Hugely under appreciated show
@@dontpickonme Absolutely. I only watched it because someone said, 'hey, you love Bulgakov, this is for you.' So glad.
Yes. It's really good. I love that both of the stars were working to break out of typecasting. It has an unhinged energy because of it which is perfect to the surreal material.
ONLY 12:51 of Maggie Mae Fish?! THIS IS AN ABOMINATION! I demand to see the 6 hour Snyder Cut of this video!!!
Jon Hamm is such a good salesman that when I first saw him and realized he was not, in fact, Jon the Ham salesman that I didn't kick him out immediately. What's very powerful about him is how he has this ability to simultaneously look like everything group A wants while simultaneously making the argument through his affect and demeanor nothing could be further from the truth with a wink and a nod to group B. I really got this vibe from Baby Driver. In spite of being a bank robbing, drug using, murderer I still liked him and wished things had gone different with him and Baby.
Gotta say, the whole bit about your outside not matching your inside actually made me get teary eyed because it voiced something I’ve felt pretty much every day of my adulthood.
I’m very baby-faced which makes it really hard to be taken seriously by anyone. It also doesn’t help very much that I’m not comfortable in my own skin and become very frustrated when my ‘shell’ doesn’t reflect my heart. It’s hard and those combined with my mental health issues have definitely held me back.
Though I do get a lot of enjoyment when people ask if I’ve started university and I tell them I graduated five years ago
Oh god, same. I'm a journalist and, even though I greatly enjoy taking more backstage roles - editing, proofreading, producing... - I do wish I looked older because being 5ft with chubby cheeks and big round eyes does me no favors when I do need to talk to people. Every time I'm put in a position to interview people they treat me like I'm just doing a first semester project for journalism school even though I've been doing this for 5+ years. It's just more fuel for my APD and it sucks.
It's awful that stuff we can't control like our appearance affect our daily lives so much.
Baby faces rise up! I am short, with chubby cheeks, thick glasses, and untamed hair. I also have some social anxiety so when I am out and about I tend to lock onto the middle distance and walk at a brisk pace towards my destination. Turns out friendly face + fast walk = "Ask me for directions".
I get asked for directions a lot. I'm talking about cars pulling up onto the curb to flag me down because I am the one who clearly has directions. I've been asked for directions while visiting new locations for the first time.
Folks, I have the worst sense of direction in the world. I cannot recall streets or place names. I confuse left and right in my mind. I can get to a location I've been to before, but I couldn't tell you how. Add in the social anxiety and when people ask me for help finding a place I start stammering and gesticulating before admitting that I don't know anything. Then they feel bad for asking me and I feel bad for losing composure immediately. It's great.
I'm 37 and got ID'd buying alcohol within the last year. At this age, that's affirming rather than annoying.
That bit where jon is showing the different slides for Hilton from madmen is funny as hell especially when you know that Japan actually calls them hamburgers just with an accent and using their kanji obviously but it basically sounds the same.
I just love that Jon Hamm taught high school drama classes. And then he was in The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with his former student Ellie Kemper! It's just the cutest thing ever! Like, do you think they did the same warm-ups and told each other the same silly jokes from the old drama class days? I hope they did!
Mad Men literally changed my life and helped me realise my calling in life (interior design) I watched it non stop over lockdowns and yearly since
Why does all recent Maggie Mae Fish videos have a part that makes me weirdly emotional?
I appreciate you talking about the commodification of art with respect to acting. It's such a weird idea to think about an actor trying to hone in on an authentic emotion with the sole purpose of selling someone else's brand. Definitely makes me think about commercials with a different perspective. Thank you!
I eagerly await the sequel to this video, which I’m sure delves deep into the masterpiece that is, “Jon Hamm’s John Ham,” sketch from SNL
Didn't know a video about John Hamm was going to make me emotional at 2 pm on a Thursday but here I am
Now I want Jon to make _Hectares of Hamm_ as a podcast that just explains the metric system to Americans.
One can’t help but respect Stella’s grind, I suppose.
I remembered that a hectare is a measure of area and I thought it was bigger than an acre, but other commenters have given more precise definitions. Anyway here I am engaging with the content 🙃
Hamm Doing an ad for the World Cup in Qatar is really something.
Just had a course on confidence and speech making, including fake it till you make it debunked power posing. No mention of weird spleens. This is what's wrong with the world today. Love your work.
Wow, thanks Maggie Mae Fish for ripping out my heart at the end. Just really hit home after just the other week unpacking the trauma from school years of giving up on my acting dream because of being told that I’d never get cast as anything for the person I was on the outside. I want to actually say thank you for just constantly putting out meaningful and heartfelt content.
Sounds like a very smart actor. They can make FAR more with a national commercial than with a movie or TV show.
Men want to be him
Women want to be him
I literally just started a Mad Men rewatch. That is impeccable timing!
I was literally binging Mad Men rn, and gotta say, this guy is unironically one of the best actors ever
I had no idea where this video was going but it was definitely worth it
Out of all of Jon Hamms roles I still feel him as a talking toilet was one of the best
Pulse is such a great techno-horror movie! The plane scene alone captures the full horror of the end of the world better than any other movie I've ever seen. Also Jon Hamm did voiceover work in one episode of Legion. It's the episode with the Brood-like bug monster scurring around while Jon Hamm is talking over it like it's a car commercial! Legion was so great!
On one hand I kinda wish I didn't have the song from the "Hamm & Bublé" SNL sketch stuck in the back of my head while watching this. But on on the other hand... it kinda works. Playing a character so deranged and psychopathic that they actually believe in the ridiculous product they are selling, and making that the butt of the joke, must have been cathartic
A hectare is 100 square meters approximately the 2.74 football fields, just commenting for engagement love you videos Maggie.
It's 100m x 100m which is 10 000 square meters
We love Maggie's weird spleen
I want to believe this video was sponsored by every Jon Hamm ad. Or at least tennis balls.
I knew john hamm first as a voice actor. And that one skit in SNL he did with Bublè was when i put a face to his voice.
A Christmas treat. A holiday Hamm
When you mentioned being a "Goofball, trapped in a daytime TV himbo shell." i thought of an obscure professional wrestler in Japan named Hyper Misao. She is an attractive woman who wanted to be silly, but until she found professional wrestling didnt even know she could be both in a culture like Japan's. Jon Hamm would of been a great professional wrestler.
that "weird spleen" joke is basically the plot of Crimes of the Future (2022) and i think everyone should watch it
That selling yourself bit is exactly what dating apps feel like, and are definitely draining in the end
My favorite Jon Hamm role: The Reverend from The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He goes full goofball there!
Ahhhh I loved the last segment of this vid! the introspective part on performance and authenticity, not the mubi stuff. but I'm sure mubi is good too
😇☺️
Yet, most people don't get that Mad Men was ironic. (It is why we have mixed drinks and people are drinking whiskey and bourbon again.)
Really excited for this one! I've just binge-rewatched the whole series a month ago or so.
You are such a fabulous and skillful artist! I can't get enough of your videos.
"3 PM on a Wednesday" close, it's 2:40 on a thursday for me but i'm still unemployed so
Big fan of this guy, can’t waittttttt
“Your mom might know him from 30 rock”
Am I…am I old enough to a assumed a mom?!
Time makes fools of us all, tittytats!!
Ham has always reminded me of Cary Grant. The line from Mad Men "you have no character, you are just handsome" always reminded me of Grant's ability to be what the audience wanted. Also they deliberately framed him in the very first scene the way Cary was framed in Notorious (the camera approaching from behind...watching him watch someone). Taking a cue from Cary (who did lots of commercials and in later life was a very successful business man because he parlayed his acting $ into branding himself, with an aftershave, etc) he should do some thrillers or horror. Hitchcock brought out a side of Cary that no one else had and it's some of his best work...
1) This was a wonderful breakdown and reflection
2) thats a whole new level of "venting your spleen"! (I will see myself out now)
We don’t get those commercials over here. I don’t remember the last time I saw Jon Hamm in anything
The quality of these videos are so impressive 😅 I'm on a binge while waiting for the next
Another great piece! Thank you for this, and for being such a wonderful and relatable weirdo.
I really hope we get to see Jon Hamm in more weird roles. I have hopes for his forthcoming season of Fargo!
Love Hamm. Really looking forward to this video!
I appreciate that the half second clip of Paul rudd was from celeryman
I think hectares are a unit of land measurement, kinda like an acre
Thanks for the vid. Always great.
I watched the celery man video like 30
minutes before this one. It’s not entirely surprising since I watch that video at least a few times every year but still good timing.
He was so great doing the narration in the second season of "Legion". Brilliant dude.
I love this series!!!!!
great as always
Thanks for the video!
I finally get to watch a live video! Yay!
Wow! This work is Mad, man!
I have to agree with this title, he's the reason I click in this video.
Excellent work!
I was very surprised what this video was about and happy to have watched it.
A delight to watch, thanks! Nice spleen. :)
Thank you for sharing your quirky spleen with us.
Because of his charismerrrrrrrr
When I see your promo-code, I always think of it in a Homer Simpson voice... "Mmmm... Fish".
“Being an artist is part of who I am, not part of what I do” ™️
Yeah, it sucks looking older than you are. When I was in elementary school, people though I was in high school. Then in high school, they thought I was in college. In college I was mistaked as the professor. And now that I'm out I'm finally comfortable with it, but I feel like having missed out on many things just because of looking older and with a perpetual frown.
Maggie Mai is the internet's Jon Ham
i hope this goes into hamm's hazing event! never forget!
she touched on it! thanks Maggie!
John Hamm looked 40 when he was 20, and will continue to look 40 when he's 65 lol
A hectare is an area of land equal to 10,000 square meters, or a square a hundred meters to a side!
THATS A LOTTA HAM!!!!
@@MaggieMaeFish *slaps the roof of my hectare* this baby can hold so much ham
@@MaggieMaeFish Ham that exceeds *BIBLICAL PORPORTIONS*
Love the comedy in your videos while they also be informative top notch video.
yaaaaay, maggie back
I still find it really interesting mad man and breaking bad were on at roughly the same time. Breaking Bad makes you almost cheer on a horrible man being horrible to everyone and you enjoy it. Mad Men you follow the story of a horrible man and mostly horrible characters but you never cheer them on.
I am still a bit mystified how people were cheering on Walter as he destroyed his relationship with his family, poisoned one kid, covered up the murder of another (by liquifying his body), and repeatedly pushed Jesse to depression and self-destruction. Every single self-satisfied move he made only came back to bite him in the ass. I don't know much more obvious the show could have been that you aren't meant to cheer him on.
This is a function of framing more than who is more admirable
@@nightwingphd8580 I don’t know Don Draper didn’t have the same level of merchandise you could buy of him
@@raiyaankazi I think it might be some sort of “cheering for the action to happen” situation mixed in with buying into the action-protagonist role of masculine power achievement/conquest/test of skill (through all means, even destructive ones) to win against an opponent.
When an audience member expects action violence and expects it to be cool & powerful, then they have a tougher time picking up on all the obvious hints that all this cool-looking violence is showing that the protagonist won due to luck, not skill. So when the protagonist insists that he’s winning & smart, they fail to interpret that as survivor bias showing how inevitable his hubris-fueled loss will be.
I think of it as the same mindset that leads to looking at the Batman character and ignoring the trauma to point out how smart he is at punching crime.
I loathed Walter by the end of season 2. Breaking bad was a good show, but I wouldn't call it my favorite, ever with Walter being a huge asshole the entire show. Jesse is great of course
Great video!
It is interesting as a 29 year old guy to learn that according to this video I am the average Maggie Mae Fish viewer’s mom
This is so beautiful
That last monologue was great! Can you do it again but show maybe 15% more spleen?
I can’t believe you met the hammer. I’m jealous.
I swear her voice is so calming
Fun Fact, Paul Rudd was sitting and reading... scripts I assume, for several years at the Cafe I worked at in the West Village NYC. Post Clueless and Pre-Anchorman.?. He did 3 movies in between apparently. I just looked it up. He never talked to us but he was always there. I worked the afternoon shift and by then he already had his order and was just sitting there and reading for hours. Random memories.
Thanks for the vid
I hope Jon makes more Fletch movies, Confess Fletch was really fun
But can he tell you why kids love cinnamon toast crunch?
I first became familiar with Hamm on the Comedy Blam Blam podcast, where he’s a real ham!
Blam Blam Hamm ham? Yes ma'am!
Season 1 of Mad Men was actually my favorite. I'm not sure if that's an unpopular opinion or not.
Season 1 is a masterpiece. It's too hard for me to choose a favorite season (even though I can easily name favorite episodes).
Yep
I keep going back to that Toast Of London episode...
my favorite MMF prop has got to be the old style tv
From 9:30 to 10:57
Damn, it was amazing
7:56 real ones remember this from the outro of Sookie Now by Big K.R.I.T.
As another struggling actor who’s worked on commercials that speech about what its like to sell yourself in the industry wasss so close to home it was honestly rude
great videoi!
I can't say enough how much I adore your content. Just saying.
A Maggie Mae Fish video on my birthday?!?! 😍🥰
Thank you.
