This is so true. I went back to watch instead of listen and I could see his breath. The musicians' union should have kicked up a fuss about that. Elias is alright but when fingers get cold I can imagine how that affects playing.
This is so beautiful - wonderful soloist, choir and orchestra in lovely cathedral setting and gorgeous music composed by Johann Michael Haydn - should be better known.
Have you heard the version by the Vienna Boy's Choir? It's another great rendition of this wonderful song, which was recorded in 1967. The soloist, is magnificent, too! I highly recommend, suggest you search for it on YT. Let me know what you think, when you have found it and listened to it! It is the complete version, it does not cut the end of the song like this version did! 👍🙂

The music is really very beautiful. The Tölzer Knabenchor is a guarantee of success and the soloist Elias Mädler very very good: it looks more like a mezzo-soprano than a soprano.

@@francesbailess942 Do they? in more than 30 years of visiting most of the UK cathedrals for Evensong, concerts and listening to BBC broadcasts of Choral Evensong, until I found this on YT, it was the first time I had ever heard it. Have since found another, slightly longer version by an equally talented Boys choir from Luxembourg perform it. However, you must have experienced this by one of our superb choirs and I sincerely hope I shall be as fortunate.

The 4th movement is missing. Anyone know of a complete recording of this performance of Haydn's cantata? Even just the sound would be OK. Another TKC gem. Saw Elias sing solo in Bad Tölz earlier this year, certainly on the long list of excellent soloists from the Tölzers.
The music is really very beautiful. The Tölzer Knabenchor is a guarantee of success and the soloist Elias Mädler very very good: it looks more like a mezzo-soprano than a soprano.
santiago 66 Indeed, Elias certainly seems a mezzo in this recording. Similarly so in the St Mattews passion which I think was recorded a bit later.
