If music stops you from watching an informative instructinal video, you're the stupid one & probably aren't going to be installing windows ever anyway. Quick, precise & easy to follow window flashing video IMO. Even though Zip Stretch is far superior stretch tape

    I love that you taped the top flap down so seal it off from air. I don't like that you cut the sides of the wrap and took them inside the house. Any air that gets behind the wrap can now be sent inside the house. I would just cut those sides flush with the window opening and use tape to create an air seal.

      If the air is behind the Tyvek it will get into the house even if the sides were not wrapped in, unless all sheathing joints are sealed etc. Also since the sides wrap around they terminate behind the drywall in the wall cavity unless the subs trim them at the inside.

      Well if you want your window manufacturer to honor their warranty & pass inspection from the county i live in California you better put those nails in bottom. Don't call the bottom & I use the thinnest shim to leave a tiny gap before you drive the nails in so if water does get behind it, it has a path to drain. Also with vinyl if you don't put a few nails in bottom nail flange to keep it from saging over time & pulling the bottom track down & out of square. Especialy for big heavy slider windows. Some inspectors will let it pass without the lower nails, but if the window manufacturer comes out to inspect a warranty issue & those nails aren't present & they call for them in their install instructions, they won't honor the warranty.

    Why would you wrap the house wrap to the inside of the house? If air gets behind it you're sending it to the inside of the house. I would think it would be best if you cut the house wrap anywhere on the jambs then used the Tyvek tape to tape it to the jamb. That will protect the jamb as well as seal off a pathway for air.

      Never seal the bottom some like to actually use a tiny shim under the flange and pitch the sill so in the event water gets in it goes out instead of traveling into the home

    • @jeffhoch4272
      @jeffhoch4272 Před rokem

      No. The video did not show the completion of the sill pan. At the inside you run a bead of sealant at the window frame to the FlexWrap which creates a sill pan. If a leak should occur above and run down the jambs it will hopefully collect on the sill in the sill pan and be redirected back to the exterior. Thus the sill is not sealed to let the water weep out if needed.

  • @PlanetMojo
    @PlanetMojo Před 8 měsíci

    Wrapping the sides is a mistake. There is zero need for a drainage plane on the sides, and it interferes with foaming later. The rest is correct.

    • @jeffhoch4272
      @jeffhoch4272 Před rokem

      LOL In different regions framing members are referred to by different names. Usually the cripples are above or below the window and a jack or trimmer is used with the king stud at the sides, but again depends on who you are talking too.

  • @briancaldwell3252
    @briancaldwell3252 Před 13 dny

    It is not correct. You don’t start window tape on the sides. I understand that you put some under the window on the sill, but you need to start at the bottom first and get the window tape under the flange of the window and then overlapping onto the paper below. Extend the bottom 6 inches past the left and right sides. Then you need to install the window tape on the sides on the window nailing flange close to the windowFrame 6 inches past the top and bottom. Next, we need to install the window tape on the top over the nailing flange 6 inches past both sides. This should be done before the paper goes on. Siding is not waterproof so waterproofing. The underlayment is extremely important.

    Drain wrap is a false sense of security. One millimeter protrusions are not going to to anything especially considering moisture will span a gap of 3mm. Plus, with a drainable house wrap you have ZERO ventilation. Don’t waste money on a drain wrap. Invest in a rainscreen drainage and ventilation mat.
