Tears For Fears - Shout (Leppardized Guitar Cover)

- Just going to come out and say it...the greatest use of natural harmonics in a 'pop' song in the last chorus! Always thought they sound amazing here and they are specifically the reason why this cover needs to be played in D standard (which is why I'm using my Hohner). That aside, this is another great track from Roland and Curt, and I think what I appreciate more as I get older, is the use of percussion and sound design to give this track such a great atmosphere. It's quite a sparse song, and very long, but these elements keep your ear interested, and the bridge section, opening with the bass, is such a quality payoff too. Then there's the incredible solo which is quite simplistic yet very intricate in it's note selection I feel. Exactly the solo it needs to be!
In terms of the Leppardization, I didn't add too much, just played over the synth parts in places.
'Leppardized' is my way of adding interesting guitar parts to a song that has little to no guitar in it, in an attempt to make it more like the Hysteria era of Def Leppard. Although really it is just an excuse for me to play over pop. :)

I use a Hohner (basically a Euro Steinberger) tuned to D standard, into a Boss Me50 into a Palmer Pdi-09 into a Focusrite Scarlett into my computer running Logic Pro X.
F.A.Q.
My headphones are purposely like that so the cable stays out the way.
I have a Patreon where I upload my notation notes for all my new covers and I am going through my old ones too. But I also provide custom notation and video lessons content there or at my bwmguitarlessons@gmail.com address. Please get in touch if you want help playing the music you love. / bwm5150 - Hudba

So sick bro! Nice work
To be in my teens in the 80s was a GIFT from GOD.
Definitely
Did you have lots of gay fun?
@@silver47officialI can confirm yes
@@Tearsforfears16 Awesome!
Trust me it was.
I find it very rare to see someone really "get" the nuances. Small bends, slides, and especially TIMING are so important. You sir are a rare breed. Well done.
This right here, especially the riff at 5:22 is something which is overlooked often.
No matter whatever type of cover you do, people just can't change this awesome solo. Since i was a kid i adored this solo
One of my favourite solos of all time. Nothing flashy, but really meaningfully melodic notes. 😁
That's the music of my youth. Love this song, very powerful.
Another successful Leppardized cover. Love this song and the whole Songs From The Big Chair album.
This version is so SICK it's the best ever!!
This is some classy playing! One thing I have noticed with these covers/additions is that the songs are so well made in the first place they have the space to do this with.
Oh great now I’ll never hear this song the same again!!! That was awesome you mad scientist!!!!
Speechless.. God of tune and riff
It's amazing, never really paid much attention to the guitar parts in these songs until you started making these videos - now I can't get enough!
that's funny I was just thinking the same thing the other, day "i wanna learn some 80's classics, but they never really had much guitar in them... did they?" lol
well i guess there's some!
THE GUITAR BIT IS MY FAVOURITE BIT
So true. Love these videos as well. Wasn't much into Def Leppard or Motley Crüe either before stumbling upon this channel. I've learned a lot by watching this.
At the end of the day, pure enjoyment of the music and laid back playing does get the message through.
Kudos, chapeau!
This cover is AMAZING, and actually this song has a very underrated guitar in my opinion
Yezzzurrr! Some of Britain's finest. So glad you've covered them, because their guitar play never gets any recognition. 👍
Be sure to check my other TFF covers on the description, cheers
@@bwm5150 for sure. Thanks for letting me know.
I love Roland's solo in Shout, your rendition of Shout sounds amazing, thanks for sharing bmw!
This sounds like an 80's era Peter Gabriel song production wise ..the drums, the guitars, the thumping synth bass ...I never caught that until hearing this Leppardized cover. Well done!
Is it just me or does everything sound better Leppardized?
I'm very pleased that my enjoyment of playing over more 'poppy' songs I like can be liked by others too.
Stunning guitar cover version. You are right. The guitar parts are very intricately arranged on this song. Love the way you "Leppardized" it! When 'Songs from the Big Chair' was released, some of the guitar parts were indeed compared to what Def Leppard would have done. 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' is another example.
Thanks! Everybody Wants to Rule the World' was my first 'non-lep' cover I did way back in 2011/2012.
Always loved Tears for Fears.
That guitar solo is amazing, great melodies in there
When you think a song couldn't be made any better.....😍
Leppardized always means... better !! awesome work bro!!
Holy shit... This made it sound even more 80's!!!
That ending is killer!!!!
If it says "Leppardized" I can like it before I even hear it because I know its gonna freaking SWEEEEET!!👍💪🇺🇸 🇬🇧
I'm your fan from Russia. You play very technically. You have a lot of def leppard covers, I love this band . I wish you more cool covers👍💪
Thanks from Scotland
You’re the modern day Mutt Lange. Bands should send you their almost finalized song and then add your guitar parts to put it over the top. It’s amazing how “Leppardizing” good songs can make them sound so much better. Bravo (again) 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Also, never really made a request, but ever think of doing Starship’s I Didn’t Mean To Stay All Night? Leppardized, of course.
Very kind thanks, yeah I should be getting back to Starship and I’ll certainly be doing that track as it’s a Mutt co-write.
👍
Wooooooow, I like it!!!!!!!!! Thank you! What could be better when two of my favorite bands, Def Leppard and Tears for Fears, united into one whole???
The only cover of the solo on CZcams that is on time ❤ great mate
Very kind, thanks! I love the solo!
Well done sir. Even used an 80s guitar.
Man the two chords at @1:47 are perfect. They really did an unbelievable job in this song at creating a tone of urgency. Never realized that until hearing them front and center here.
This sounds like it should've been in the song originally. So cool!
Best compliment I can get, thank you!
ABSOLUTELY GENIUS, i love it this song was already cool this made it 50 thousand times cooler.
Nice job. Roland’s guitar work with TFF is a favourite of mine. He understates things but when you listen in to the tracks his lead and chord work is sublime yet brilliant. Their recordings are gems and it is great to see that he and Curt are still working together. I saw them play in NZ about 12 years ago along with Spandau Ballet. They should have toured solo. Wonderful songs. A great choice, Ben. Thanks for posting. 👍😎🇳🇿🎸🏴🍺🍺
At last somebody that sees Roland for his great guitar parts...👍🤘
@@hyutyub 👍😎🇳🇿🎸
I didn't start listening to rock & pop until age 15 in 1983. 2 years later it took me a while to know Roland and Spandau Ballet weren't the same vocalist!
@@Limited_Light Keep listening ….. 👍😎🇳🇿
@@davidthompson3136 Not just listening. Am slowly creating songs as well.
Makes me feel great !!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHOUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was awesome. Spot on I can imagine this on Hysteria.
this and the Disturbed versions are EPIC!!
Big Wreck's version is amazing too👍👍
Awesome as always. I love the efficient motion; nothing wasted, and never hurried. As a long-time golfer, I compare this playing to the effortless power in a swing like Ernie Els'.
Haha thanks for not using Jim Furyk 😜
@@bwm5150 lol! Also a very smoothe swing, but anything but Orthodox.
Just tremendous! Tears for fears classic, wonderful songs seem to lend themselves immediately to your heavier guitar input! You just seems to enhance these already fantastic songs.
I loved TFFears back then although generally heavy rock has always been my ‘thing’ but I was knocked out by your version of ‘Head over heels ‘. Eye opening stuff.
What a super and exciting facet you’re bringing to these songs. Great stuff!!
I only watch your videos. No one else. Never stop. ❤
Another great example of great playing. That last lick over the fade out is awesome! Your additions would have sound amazing live in a stadium!
Ah thank you! 😁
On repeat!!! Solo was awesome!!!
So many memories come flooding back when I hear this song. Also you're awesome, thanks for doing these covers

It’s 12 years old and I only use it for songs that require detuning, so it doesn’t get used much but you can see on covers dating back to 2012
