  • After 14 years of neglect when it comes to building houses, our fool of the week is Sir Gavin Williamson, who attacked the new Labour government for setting targets, building on the 'Greenbelt' and not consulting 'local communities'.

England could easily have built more than 8,000 homes Arthur. But the Tories have intentionally been holding England back, so that they can try to make English people angry and resentful of council tenants. The so called "right-to-buy" was not about helping council tenants buy homes. It was about killing off the ability of councils to rent out cheap homes, so that private landlords could earn more money.
Everything the Tories did was done to screw over poor people and put money into the pockets of super-rich people who would hopefully donate money to their party.

@@col.hertford9855Exactly. A market town near me, that my parents lived in has doubled in size, housing and people wise, but the sewage system and clean water supplies has not been upgraded! They have also been gradually taking over more and more of the flood plain and good quality organic farm land. My fresh, raw milk farm /supplier is now unable to feed his beautiful cows, because their summer pasture is about to be covered in more houses! The farmer and his family have leased the land that provides the summer pasture, for about 100 years, but the land owner wants to sell and get £15/20 million from a land agent or developer, instead of the £50k the 80 acres my dairy farmer leased, and is really worth as agricultural land! The development planning application was refused ...not because it would put this farmer out of business, but because the houses would be too close to the sewage farm, so a bit stinky for their posh new houses! Also, many of those already built on the flood plain, suffer every time there is heavy rain from ....flooding, and now sewage over flow into their houses because the local system cannot cope with the volume. Is that NIMBYISM because locals are trying to flag up issues likely to become evident only after the properties are built? Our farm land should be ring fenced, and only grey or brown field sites used for new builds. Plus VAT needs to be abolished on refurbished properties that have laid empty above shops, or offices etc. They could provide a really quick solution to our housing needs. Build back into our towns and cities. The infrastructure I already there. Don't keep spreading out like a fungus! Our farms and wildlife in many areas, are in need of life support. 😢
