- After 14 years of neglect when it comes to building houses, our fool of the week is Sir Gavin Williamson, who attacked the new Labour government for setting targets, building on the 'Greenbelt' and not consulting 'local communities'.

It does sicken me knowing of the astonishing number of buildings left ubused, derelict or abandoned.
We have housing lack in some areas but we have massase amounts of houses left to rot in many more and now of couse a huge increase in businesses and public building just left empty. Most of thosr in cities. Nobody is addressing this.
'Concrete over the countryside?'
HS2, much? 🤔
Didn't Stanely Johnson get his house paid for because of HS2? I wonder if he is paying that money back now it's been cancelled? Hmmm.........
"It's not about local communities having the decision, it's going to be imposed by Angela Rayner." Then why has Sir Keir just chaired the first meeting of metro Mayors at Downing Street, explaining that he wants them to work on behalf of their communities & not Westminster. Williamson has always been pathetic, now he's shaking in his little boots at the thought of that mighty ogre Angela Rayner proving she is worth a dozen of any one of the Tory party.
Exactly. Let's not forget Tory right wing ideology = sociopath and it despises us all.
Anything that benefits the general public is and always will be abhorrent to them.
Lets hope Labour can confine them to the trash heap of history. 👍
Well said.
Good old Growler - she'll infuriate them endlessly.
“but…but…but Angela Rayner” has been adopted as the new “but…but…but Jeremy Corbyn…”
Concrete over the countryside. Bloody hell this piece of you know what is putting his vile rhetoric above helping the country get back on its feet. It’s just despicable that these failures of state continue to drag down the country and prevent any progress being made. And the truly thick and stupid will believe every lying word.

Why is this guy still speaking?. Did we not get rid of these fools?. They have nothing to say after what they have done over the past 14 years.
Idiots re elected him !!!
Just goes to show they don't have to be in government to talk shite...
The SNP built 12000 affordable houses. England built 8000. If the SNP can do this on a much lower scale then why can’t the U.K. rise to the task and build more?
And on a handout from Westminster
@@Albanach-je1nk No!, you cannot shout about "union" then continue to spew this bs, so if Scotland is part of this union then it does NOT get handouts from Westminster, it gets it part of the pot that is puts into for being in said union, so what is it you want, a union or not a union, make your mind at some point and stop blaming another country who have done better with their part if the pot than your country has done, and i might add who have allowed 14 years of a party who have sold off everything built up by all the countries in this union into private foreign hands, so stop blaming anyone else in this union for the mess you country has done to the entire union.
discuss…
England could easily have built more than 8,000 homes Arthur. But the Tories have intentionally been holding England back, so that they can try to make English people angry and resentful of council tenants. The so called "right-to-buy" was not about helping council tenants buy homes. It was about killing off the ability of councils to rent out cheap homes, so that private landlords could earn more money.
Everything the Tories did was done to screw over poor people and put money into the pockets of super-rich people who would hopefully donate money to their party.
@@DavidShepheard: Exactly.
Labour are the party of tenants, the Tories are the party of landlords.
What a knob, Starmer met ALL regional mayors at Downing Street to discuss more devolved powers to these regions which would have most definitely included Housing. The Tories on the other hand chose to ignore problems, problems now that need fixing.
@@keithparker1346 Local councils had reserves totalling £34 billion as at 31st March 2022. Using just some of that money would help. Allowing local councils to use 100% of council house right to buy sales to invest in building more would also help.

Wow ! He’d be in some rage if he visited Scotland. SNP had a target of 100,000 affordable homes, with 70% social rent. The target has been completed, and another 20,000 more have been built so far of a further 110,000 new homes of the same type. Worse still, they are highly insulated and have solar panels 😮
Just about to say the same
Without his "Dirt Book" on Tory MPs what's Gavin Williamson for?
His tarantula refers to him as his "serf".
@@Turnipstalk Apparently, he used to use Kronos (the tarantula's name) to frighten Tory MPs in to agreement by pulling it out it's solarium and stroke it like a Bond Villain and then let crawl across the desk between them. If he'd tried that stunt on me I would have used a letter opener or sharpened pencil to stab the thing, and claim unconscious arachnophobic reaction as justification. Williamson's real influence came from knowledge of MPs peccadilloes and indiscrete recreational habits but since these reprobates and sexual deviants are now fewer in number his influence has correspondingly dwindled. Regardless, Williamson is still a gormless git.

"How dare you do better than we did"
I live in Cambridgeshire and the corrupt Tory development plan has been tearing up green belt land for years, building expensive housing that doesn’t address the real need. Developers are the only ones that are winning, enabled by railroading through sustainable planning. Not to mention badly implemented infrastructure funding which has been a disaster. The answer is proper housing to suit people’s needs at reasonable prices with intelligent sustainable environmental planning.
Same here in bucks.

@@timonsolus most of it is just unkept and weedy land so its called the grey belt. Most of the opposition comes from people thinking that their house will become less expensive due to more supply.
God forbid people should have somewhere to live. Pass 'Sir" Gavin a tent next to a food bank.
Nothing to offer....
Nah a tent near a food bank will mean that the local conservative council will take his tent away and punish him for being homeless. The shits.
Shame on the people of Stone for voting for him. Swapped Cash for Williamson! What is wrong with these voters? You are so right in your thoughts of course, Max. It’s because of the present building regulations that we have such a housing shortage.
As a resident of Stone I live in eternal shame of our beautiful town being associated with this fapid turd. But I guess that's what you get when the whole constituency is over 60's and farmers. 😢
Won't do him any good opposing the bill, Labour has the numbers to carry it through, the numpty.

Fool is very polite Max !
Oooh Betty, dem planners did a whoopsie in my back garden!!!
Oh screeeam..😅😅😅😅
Max - I wrote about this in essays - the UK has not built enough houses since 1979 when councils were banned from building houses - there are still councils with the money from the sales unable to build houses or spend that money today.
Since 1979 when the market was meant to take over and supply houses every single year they have failed to miss the target - one year they did get close out of 450,000 houses (where the UK needed 650,000 houses) they only built 350,000 and another year (2007 or 8 or 9 or 10) they where asked to build 680,000 houses they only built 3
Later Tories forced councils to spend it , instead of getting an inflation rise in the rate suport grant .,
Find on u choob the interview of liz truss by andrew neil when she was housing minister he absolutely rinsed her with facts she didn't have a clue its a good watch
The problem with giving the local communities the say over housing is that no-one wants them in their back garden. Oooh Betty!
yeah im happy that labour is going full YIMBY - maybe some of us will be able to get onto the housing ladder now!
Provided they have the infrastructure to go with them then I doubt it would cause much of an issue. The most contentious development round by me was killed because it was building on a critical flood plain that stopped the local (over capacity) sewage works flooding. It was killed by a resident/ EA court challenge. Is that nimbyisum?
@@itemushmush I hope you do. People deserve their own place.
@@col.hertford9855 yes they have to build sensibly and have services such as GPS, dentist, schools and shops. ( shut up and go away was all that he was famous for and the spider)
@@col.hertford9855Exactly. A market town near me, that my parents lived in has doubled in size, housing and people wise, but the sewage system and clean water supplies has not been upgraded! They have also been gradually taking over more and more of the flood plain and good quality organic farm land. My fresh, raw milk farm /supplier is now unable to feed his beautiful cows, because their summer pasture is about to be covered in more houses! The farmer and his family have leased the land that provides the summer pasture, for about 100 years, but the land owner wants to sell and get £15/20 million from a land agent or developer, instead of the £50k the 80 acres my dairy farmer leased, and is really worth as agricultural land! The development planning application was refused ...not because it would put this farmer out of business, but because the houses would be too close to the sewage farm, so a bit stinky for their posh new houses! Also, many of those already built on the flood plain, suffer every time there is heavy rain from ....flooding, and now sewage over flow into their houses because the local system cannot cope with the volume. Is that NIMBYISM because locals are trying to flag up issues likely to become evident only after the properties are built? Our farm land should be ring fenced, and only grey or brown field sites used for new builds. Plus VAT needs to be abolished on refurbished properties that have laid empty above shops, or offices etc. They could provide a really quick solution to our housing needs. Build back into our towns and cities. The infrastructure I already there. Don't keep spreading out like a fungus! Our farms and wildlife in many areas, are in need of life support. 😢
Over 4% of properties in the UK are empty. That's over a million homes. Make these properties available as homes rather than allowing them to be left empty as part of someone's investment portfolio would go a long way towards solving the housing problem without the need to build over so much greenbelt land.
Also, abandoned shops and public buildings by the thousands now.
We used to deliver leaflets to council house area to offer buy your own schemes. That was years ago. There were hundreds of streets of council houses....perfectly sound but totally neglected. Nobody cared to do them up but people lived on the streets or councils paid fir homeless to stay in hotels.
There is nothing he can do in parliament about it. They'll have to go to the courts. But then the government can make a bill to overrule the courts. So then they can go to the European courts.😂😂😂
I was waiting for him to say.."Oh no, they're building houses...Ooooh Betty" and pull his best Frank Spencer face.
I'm going to quote Gavin Williamson "go away and shut up."
Not happy because he's not in the house building business.
We actually only live on 10% of the land in this country.
Got to keep the cows and sheep happy or they would leave Britain 😊
These people have absolutely no self awareness.
Everyone wants “stuff” done, as long as “stuff” doesn’t effect them in anyway
Tories trying to remain relevant and crashing and burning. He really should go back to selling fireplaces .
I suspect the Tories think there's enough shop doorways left.
Perhaps building new housing and growing the economy will be new things to add to the Tories list of things that are Woke and wicked, like not setting fire to homeless people.
We can’t grow the export economy for an obvious reason .
So we have to grow the internal economy.
They don't want houses as it's all about their back pocket. Less houses means higher values of rental and equity in each of these properties.
Oh Gavin Gavin why have people think you are stupid then open your mouth and prove it?
Oh shit. Gavin Williamson is fighting on my side!
A man of utter incompetence.
Sounds like a Landlords pissed that the housing shortage being solved will hit his bottom line.

Doesn't take them long to come out from under their rocks
I'm so glad they're not in charge anymore.
They must also do something against all the new housing being bought up by professional landlords.
Once a fool, always a fool.
I can t believe the tories are griping already.......ffs..😮
They have no sense of shame, they have lost. why don't they just get out of our faces! There is no talk about social housing!
Williamson worked as a manager in fireplace manufacturer Elgin & Hall, a subsidiary of AGA, until 2004. You would have thought he would have been in favour of more houses
I will be fighting on your side if you are a landlord with multiple properties.
The conservatives set central housing targets too! (-:
But they didn't mean it!
Ex fire place salesman and sacked minister. What makes him think he has anything worthy of saying. Plus he was a bully.
The house building progamme will kickstart the economy. Thats half the point of it.
The stupid things these people do and say is terrifying.
If the Tories were doing this they would be looking at which if their friends will be given contracts to make as much money as possible.
Oh my, the people of Stone, Great Wyrley and Penkridge were really sold a pup here. What were they thinking?
Every time the new government makes a move to fix a tory problem it shines a light on just how big a problem the torys left behind. Hence the outrage by the deposed MPs.
Why can’t we build in green belt when are in the millions short of housing? Is it spoiling the view of the NIMBY’s driving their Tesla cars taking their children Cameron and Cressida to their private schools?
I hadn’t realised the fireplace salesman had his arse on his shoulders.
He’s talking to dibbley, village green, cricket club, 50 inhabitants 😂
Never underestimate the NIMBY vote.
In Tory areas who dint vote Labour? It going to more than ignored,
We are going to have to suffeed this sort of fascist lunacy for the next five years ...
What?
The Tories must be getting desperate. I thought we'd seen the last of Frank Spencer.....
Housing is the key to everything: Investment, growth, better-paid jobs, social mobility, mental & physical health.
The “Green Belt” is an old fashioned idea that has to be abandoned.
Otherwise, the country will be choked to death.
Building more house is great news as long as landlords do not get their hands on them.
The tenants must pay rents base on the cost of capital , not the shortage of housing.
Gavin Williamson should shut up and go away
Someone should really Educate him on what the country thought about him and his party on election day. Like the new houses, we built a new government on previous Tory electoral grounds. 😂😂😂 Too late for him to be a nimby about anything now.
"Centrally imposed housing targets"?
Does he mean like, "Centrally Imposed" hospital building targets?
Does he mean like, "Centrally Imposed" immigration targets?
Does he mean "Centrally Imposed" like practically everything Westminster decides to do?

I totally agree! Planning should be locally based.
Next weeks fool of the,Farage for attacking John Bercow in his tribute to Lindsay Hoyle 😡
When was the last time government built any houses at all??

The biggest problems are the lack of people to actually do the building, closely followed by the price of materials today.
Having them spouting off in opposition is almost as bad as having them in power...
He did nothing when a Nursery was built at the end of my parents road (in his seat!) completely ignoring the planning permission!
