So basically, like the epilogue and RDR1? Yeah, no. I'm actually glad we got to play as Arthur and had the freedom to choose the way his outcomes turned out rather than playing as John. The whole reason why RDR2 is such a masterpiece of a game and considered a work of art among video game and even cinematic history is mostly because of Arthur and what sort of a brilliant character he is.
I love John, but during the main chunk of the game i.e chapters 1-6, the story is all about Arthur's redemption, from being a ruthless and cold blooded outlaw to a man with his own moral code, doing what's good, and make sure that his only family gets to live their lives even if he doesn't make it in the end.
Besides, as interesting as it would be to play as John, right now, this much more younger version of John isn't the same one he comes to become in the epilogue and what he is in RDR1. This John is still very much an outlaw, a killer and thief, loathes the calm family life, and is living a pretty low honor life, most likely killing and robbing off screen while we play as Arthur, because that's what most of them did during their day

I still think it was sad, but seeing Arthur fight to the death, end at least 3 pinkerton mooks and then get pummeled by Micah and STILL only die because the TB finally got bad enough to kill him…
Shit, it’s more badass than sad.
He died in vain, but he died fighting for what he believed in.
He died with hope on his mind and fight in his limited breath. In a blaze of glory and then somber silence, Arthur finally found the rest he oh, so deserved.
I miss Arthur like he’s a real person, I miss John, I miss the whole gang, and the good, happy people they once were. I miss the happy times, partying, singing with Javier, watching the group just enjoy one-another’s presence.
But if there was ever a clear lesson to learn from RDR…
    It’s to let go.
Don’t let your grief consume you, don’t let your attachment to the good old times drive you to manic depression just because things changed.
    You’ll make rash decisions.
End up like Sadie, hateful, angry, definitely trying too hard to be someone she wasn’t ever meant to be.
Or John, his moment of rage, hunting Micah down, exposing himself to Ross in the process.
    Or even Jack.
Do you honestly think killing a Government agent, ex or not, after asking half of the state’s populace where he is would end well?
Red Dead Redemption’s core lesson could be explained in Arthur’s tagline: “Revenge is a fool’s game.”
In conclusion: Arthur’s sacrifice made me sad, but it also inspired me.
It inspires me to to better, not for my own sake, but for others.

actually it wouldn't. Arthur giving his hat to John resembles surrendering to his own cause. Arthur tries to tell us that he has found out what his fate would be, and hence, he gives his hat to John as a way to live in this world without actually existing. John keeps this hat with himself forever, as a remembrance to all those moments he spent with arthur, fighting together, saving jack, blackwater massacre, etc.

That actually would have been cool if they changed your perspective from being arthur the whole time to being John when arthur puts his hat on him, it would be a really smooth transition into the epilogue I think

He doesn’t even have a silver hand 😔

That's the transition that happens from one scene to another, that's why they happen with multiple camera angles.

Fr tho. Idk where dutch came from. Arthur would literally kill micah with the gun, bro literally crawled around 2 feets length while succumbing to death and micah had his left hand almost broken by a dying person. Can you just imagine what a fucking monster arthur was. I bet bro could deadlift around 350-400 kg in his best shape without training for it just with raw strength
