Magnific A.I. Detailer and Upscaler: Adding Realism To A.I. Images

- You may have heard about "AI upscalers" where you can increase the size of an image and still retain the information. However, Magnific is a little different, in true form it is a detailer. It's slowly becoming popular in the generative world and I wanted to talk about it!
It takes your image and re-imagines it with the most photo-realistic detail as possible. I saw this being used in our community and wanted to try it for myself. I am not affiliated with them (I wish I was, I need more credits haha).
Although this requires a subscription starting at $40/month, I believe that this will be seen in the future in other applications, for a lower cost. Let's hope! You can also go the Stable Diffusion route and find detailers there.
In this video we take a look at look at the before/afters along with some of my preferred settings in order to achieve the best results. We’ll also define where it doesn’t work the best and what to do about it.
You can see it at magnific.ai

OVERVIEW WITH RENEE
I sat down with Renee Robyn where we did a casual overview of Magnific that is a long-form piece that I think you may find interesting if you'd like to see more before and afters.

It looks promising, but the website doesn't offer a trial, and the subscription cost is too high.
Indeed, I wish they had a trial! It would convince people a lot quicker resulting in a higher user base right away.
Thank you so much Pratik for the very informative tutorial! It would be highly appreciated if you make a tutorial on upscaling procedure, you were mentioning in your video! Good luck!
Magnific is charging for using things you can already do in Stable Diffusion (SDXL). They're likely using IMG2IMG to get improved details with denoise strength. They're then using an upscaler with further denoising to make it even clearer and larger. However, for the average "Joe," it's far too much legwork to try and get this done on their junky home PC. The near instant looking changes proves they're using an A6000 or better GPU. Their product is good for journeymen AI users, but not for professionals.
Be sure to wait till it loads in HD and higher to watch :)
Can you send a link to the podcast you mentioned in the video where you changed the flowers to feathers? Thanks~
This is great, thanks! Would be great if you could do the neural photoshop stage as mentioned?
Thanks Pratik
Thank you for checking it out Andrew!
Thank you for the review! I tried it. Like other upscalers, the problem is hands, even at low creativity and high resemblance.
What I want to know upfront would be what is the maximum size for any image we would upload? I'm more interested in enhancing the detail of my images as their sample images demonstrated, than upscaling them. Because my photos are large enough already, it's the detail enhancement that interests me the most.
Also, this appears to be an online app only. What I'd really like is either a standalone program i can download and use alongside Photoshop or, better yet, as a plug-in for Photoshop.
Also, I'd want a permanent license instead of a subscription. I could see myself being willing to pay maybe $299 for that. That's about $100 over the price of Topaz Gigapixel, which does upscaling only.
You know, come to think of it, the Only demo photos they're showing on the Magnific website are for the detail enhancement feature. We don't really know anything about how well Magnific upscales compared to Gigapixel or any others.
I like to blend the before (softer aspects) and after (added detail) together. Have you done any of this yourself?
It looks great but the pricing is insane. It even costs like 2-3 times the price of midjourney
Definitely! If you have no purpose for this very specialized tool, it is not worth the money.
I’ll def wait for one that doesn’t cost near $40 a month but amazing indeed
Not a word about feet and hands when upscaling. Does it mess up?
Does it enhance old / black&white photos ?
what's the largest size it produces?
Is it possible to use it with batch sequencing?
Unfortunately not like you would expect. However you can get one image going, and swap it out with another one and hit upscale before the first one is done.
Although Magnific is excellent but subscription price is too high.
Indeed, I would at least like to see a limited number of trials before paying.
@@pratiknaikeduI was able to accidentally use Magnific as trial for 50 credits(each image consuming 10 credits) but now they have scrapped that probably 😊🥲
How to get the free trial with 50 tokens?
Does Magnific offer a preview of your image before you commit to the upscale?
no
I am trying to find the "PAY PAGE" WHERE IS THE LINK, thanks
Once you login, simply click the top right "upgrade".
$40 a month? What am I, rich? And no trial? That's pretty obnoxious of them.
Sorry my friend, But I dont get it, pay for upscaling? is that much better
Yes, there's nothing that adds detail to images like this does. It's mind blowing. Eventually something will be free or cheaper.
It's expensive, but it's absolutely insane, especially nature upscales
hm... can you compare it to Topaz? looks really cool
That's a great idea and I will do that! In the meantime here's a general observation:
Look at how each pixel in this image has been completely transformed, resulting in a significantly different and more detailed outcome with Magnific. This approach essentially recreates the entire image with enhanced details.
In contrast, Topaz adopts a more conservative approach, aiming to retain the overall resemblance to the original image while eliminating any artifacts. It strategically fills in gaps where necessary but refrains from drastically altering the original content to the same extent.
This distinction is the reason I categorize them as "detailer" and "upscaler," respectively. The former focuses on meticulous detail enhancement, while the latter prioritizes preserving the essence of the original image.
I hope that helps in the meantime!
@@pratiknaikeduWould be good to compare with the new Topaz Gigapixel AI they're pre-selling now that will release in January 2024...
@@FotomakerAcademy Thank you for the heads up!
will it be in Photoshop in a year? 😛
You know, generative fill really surprised me. I didn't think they would have come out with a generational leap in tools so quick. So there's no telling! And with Adobe Firefly trying to be competitive, they may simply just make it user friendly and include a setting to be photo real in their generative results. Let's see! Things are changing so fast right?
Thank you so much as always Pratik!
MAGNIFIC TH1EF
Its cool, but the only problem is, it only accepts low resolution pictures.
It does best with low res to higher res, you can use higher resolution images but it will cost more per generation. I wish there was a way to keep the resolution the same, while adding in the detail that I come to expect with it. A true detailer mode.
@@pratiknaikedu how to lower it so that it can be used
retouchers will be left out of the market soon... 😐
We already are, and eventually, every creative to be honest. And a little further down the line, every job. We need to start talking about what that world looks like when no one has to work. It's a weird world we're headed to.
It is impressive however $39 a month....hmmmmm
Wow! Above my affordability!
ai images are mostly beautiful but there’s something about them seem lifeless
You are right, at this current moment they are missing emotion, especially in the expression. Probably a good thing to keep it so that we can distinguish between photographs and AI images.
No trial without paying 40? Waste of time..
cost to much, souldnt not be limited to generated images like midjorney
You can use it on photography as well, though the use case wouldn't be as great. I like Topaz and also the Neural Filters in Photoshop for photos at the moment.
Krea is better.
Sad.
