    IR.wav is my favorite, so descriptive and to the point. /s
    A descriptive name + the details that make it unique from other similarly named IRs is the way to go. Good job on the video, you could've still left one cheeky "bad response" in there for the lols.

    I've always been too scared to ask. What exactly is an IR, do I play my guitar clean through it? How do I set it up, how do I use it, and what is the difference between using an IR and just using an amp sim? Do I need special hardware other than an interface?

    It's interesting that you're talking about naming these, but on the Bogren downtuned IRs are purposefully kind of obtuse (mommasgottaduck???). He said he wanted people to just listen to it and pick it based on their sound. There aren't like 80 subfolders so it's a little bit easier to sort through but he didn't want people to focus on the names.

    I get this is just a promotional video, but these days it's honestly hard for me to come across bad IRs if it wasn't just some impulse that a random person shared on the facebook groups. Between GGD, ML Sound Labs, Bogren, and Anvil, among many others, there are so many great options nowadays. When shooting out IRs, the key is to just use your ears, not going based off of what the IR is called. Though, if you're like me and have collecting IRs for 15 years, having a catalog of thousands IRs, some great, some bad, it can get a little daunting when shooting out IRs, but by now, I know which ones I tend to reach for most of the time, regardless of what they're named.

    • @joeymusic

      @@joeymusic Perhaps lol. So if this is aimed at rookies (for lack of a better term), we all need to teach more of "just use your ears", that oughtta be one of the first things taught, and I didn't realize that until about 5 years into my engineering endeavors. Wish I had been told that earlier on but those Sneap forum threads were tainted by so many of those "here's my mix, now rate it and follow us on facebook" people lol

    i really liked a lot of your content...but this is a bit of a marketing video..most of the "Bad IR" examples are really just personal choices, it doesn't make the IR bad, nor does it make the Anvil IR good, it just means that YOU made right decisions...even naming IR's poorly doesn't make the IR bad.. I thought it would be more like, "This is how a good IR of a Mesa 4X2 Standard with a 57 would sound vs a bad one"

    • @joeymusic
      @joeymusic  Před 3 lety

      Hey Vad! That is sort of the point. Any commercial ir these days can be usable under the right circumstances, but the thought process that goes into picking them is the biggest drawback. This is my own personal opinion, but let’s say I made the video you’re referring to. The same I.r. I use might not give you the results you want, especially for someone that’s a beginner. Instead, I try to help beginner-intermediate level people take the thought process out. A poorly named ir IS a bad i.r. because it distracts the end user from the ultimate goal. I think you will enjoy the video in which I show how to use real cabs with amp sims because it will address a lot of what you want
