Chips Pal, that made my mouth water. The troublesome cleaning aspect is the heating elements when crumbs fall onto them, bit tricky to clean. As i'm sure you've found out, the magnetic trays work when you open the door and the tray pops out a bit via magnetic pull for easy access. Fantastic new toy though and energy efficient too compared to a main oven👍
You will enjoy this addition, had mine coming up to 4 years and use it every single day. I got the black version which seems easier to clean Steam does come from the door, as I recall that’s why it shouldn’t really be under a cabinet, easy enough to wipe away any drips Not much you can’t cook in it, only use my main oven for the bigger joints now. Roasting bags can help a lot avoiding the splashes if your roasting chicken for example Usually do bacon on a tray Cooked beef in it today, it roasts up to 2 hours The thing I like the most you can set the time and walk away, no more forgetting I had something in the oven I’m sure you will enjoy it, lots to experiment with. Best kitchen appliance I ever bought, can cook anything you can fit in. Enjoy x
Quick tip that works very well for roast spuds especially, boil the spuds for about 10 mins with the skins on, leave to coolin the water, just be careful that they don't mush, the skins will just slipof and the spuds won't absorb loads of water so you get a much fluffier spud
That salt and pepper seasoning I sent you works well with chips in my Sage combi oven with an air fryer function. They do take a bit of getting used to though.
These are amazing, I had one, used it all the time for about 4 years & it eventually died, bought another one again straight away - never use my proper AEG (except for the hobs) - brilliant & nice vid (might have to try using some of your cooking tips)
I have the Same Smart oven only mine is branded Breville. I have had it a year now and I have not used my big oven since. It will bake three loaves of bread, cook a large pizza, roast a whole chicken or pork/beef roast. It does a great job good air frying. I use it pretty much daily.
Soak your chips before cooking in cold water for about an hour before cooking, it takes all the starch out of the potatoes, so you get crispy chips on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside.
When my underbench main oven cashed in its chips I replaced it with a new one that included an air fryer function. The oven works wonderfully but I can't bring myself to get that lovely air fryer basket/tray dirty so I haven't used it (18 months later). I might try it out tomorrow but I know I'll look in the cupboard and see that pretty, shiny basket and end up grilling them on the good old baking sheet. A little bicarb in the cooking water can help with the crispiness of the end product by the way - not too much, just a level teaspoon helps.
I really want some home made chips now but, I have some veggies to use up, I'm making a veg curry tonight. Really loving this sage series, can't wait for more content on it, I might have to purchase it.
If you're behind the times then I must still be stuck in the past. I have none of these fancy things lol I treated myself to a tassimo hot drinks machine a few years back. Not used it in yonks!. I'm content using a toaster, oven & microwave 😂 I do enjoy watching you with all this modern technology though 👌🏼
i have a similar oven /air fryer and use a cylinder they supplied on the rotisserie for a good (not as good as deep fried) chip that gets tumbled and it seems to be better then the tray mthod
If all these new super duper gadgets keep being invented we’ll all need another kitchen dedicated especially for all of them, id love a new house with a traditional kitchen and a gadgetised kitchen 😂
Air Fryers are just rebranded convection ovens which are smaller. If you want to cook a small amount of food they are useful because they use less energy because they are not heating a big space up. Once you scale an air fryer up to the same size as a normal convection over, its simply a convection oven, same as what most people already have
personally I would always spray of shake on vinegar first before the salt as that way the salt sticks better , but keep up the good work with the vids m8 i got a ninja myself after watching you're earlier vids. lol
also when i did chips in my "off brand" air fryer i just washed them left the skin and cut them and soaked them for a few hours in cold water (probs the same result as par boiling them to get the starch out ?) , patted them dry then drizzled a teaspoon of oil on them and gave them a mix and fry them for 10 mins shake and then another 10 mins at 180c , times may alter for fryer types.
I've hosted Christmas dinner parties for 4, even 6, with the Sage oven + a microwave. It takes a bit of planning, but the top acting as a plate warmer helps enormously.
I have this oven and you should turn the tray around half way through cooking for the chips to cook evenly and you are right they always need a few minutes more

Great new bit of kit that, Gareth. Very smart. But, hasn't the Old Air Fryer also done you proud. Those Chips looked so good ! Great video yet again, thank you as always ..... 👏😉👍👌
Does the guidance REQUIRE that you parboil the chips or is that just a personal preference? I ask because I don't bother when I do my homemade oven chips in my conventional oven.
Thanks for the video i like the oven and may get one, but what really caught my interest was the saxa spray bottle. Afew of those with different flavoured contents interests me no end of flavour experiments to torture the kids with.
My fave now is Aldi Skin On Fries, chuck em in the air fryer 20 minutes no messing and the best easy home cooked chips. Give em a go in your fancy gadget and see what you think. As alway good video.
Hmmm, looks like a good machine, can you compare it to the Ninja? I have a Ninja 14 in 1 but am looking for another wee oveny grilly thing and would love to see which works better and also I am interested to see how hard it is to keep clean.
my housemate bought one it's called the baccarat ultimate fry xl airf fryer and oven , all similar functions but his has a rotisserie function and it comes with a basket/ cage that rotiserates your chips. have yet to rotisserate a chicken yet. it seems that you could only fit a small to medium chicken in it definetly not a large or family size. I like to cote my chips in melted butter and plenty of salt. enjoy your videos.
Instead of parboiling, I microwave chips before air frying - seems to work just as well. I keep a pair of welding gauntlets in the kitchen for handling hot metal things.
You can’t beat homemade chips my wee mum god rest her used to make banging homemade chips and roasties beef gravy all over yum stuff these looked tasty bud I would used loads of hp for dipping

A tip for you, when oiling up chips or frozen chips in a big bowl or pot for the gas oven, use crisp n dry, it's not spam but it is rape seed oil and the chips are beautiful, you have to try it and taste them, even with cheap frozen chips covered in the cnd oil and oven cooked are beautiful.
When on the toast setting, the number 4 at the bottom is the number of slices of bread. You can change that and it heats up the right amount for however many slices you're doing 🙂
That's interesting..I've had one of these for quite some time and it is exactly the same but mine goes under the brand name of Breville..you'll never look back with this little oven..they do everything and don't take as long to preheat as the wall oven for baking xxxx💖💖
Par-boiling the chips is unnecessary if you've got a microwave to do the initial cooking. Similarly, if you're doing baked potatoes, give them 5 minutes at 800 in the microwave, before transferring to the oven to develop that deliciously crispy brown skin. As for the Roast vs Bake setting (which initially confused me), it all depends upon the cookware you're using. A roasting tin blocks heat from the lower elements, and (unlike, say a ceramic baking dish) it isn't in direct contact with the food, so it needs the lower heating elements to be set higher to compensate. Whereas, if you're using a Baking dish, the food is in direct contact with the baking dish, so the dish itself is transferring heat into the food, as well as the top heating elements heating from above. The oven's Smart IQ system gives more power to the bottom elements in the Roast setting and gives even top/bottom heat in the Bake setting. Temperature control is also more precise in the Bake setting. The only thing I've not been able to get an answer to is whether you can Grill with the door open. I'm cooking thick T-Bone steaks, starting with a heavy frying pan on the hob, and finishing by transferring the fry pan to the oven grill. It's a small oven, so the door has to remain open because of the pan handle. Sage warn not to leave the oven door open when not in use (presumably, because it's heavy and the structure may warp), but even their technical support people are clueless on this question.
I've got the Innoteck 30l air fryer and I do my chips at 200c for 20-22 minutes without preheating. The pre-settings on the machine are pretty useless mine is 230c for 15 minutes which cooks the outside fine but inside they aren't cooked. Like you say just test it and find out what works best.
It also makes a good plate warmer on top, looks nice and shiny 🤩I usually leave one of the trays in the bottom over the elements, it's easier to clean because stuff drips from the wire tray, I like watching, I call mine TV oven 😆
the problem with leaving a tray in the bottom is it defeats the air fryer functionality as the bottom elements are obscured, this is not necessary for chips but yeah, if food is gonna drip, use the tray

Ive never done chips in mine. You should try a pizza, mine will cook a detroit style pizza from asda fresh made counter, although its a tight fit, it cooks perfectly in 10mins.
How is it different from your small top Bosch oven? The only difference between 'Air Fryers' and Convection Ovens was their size and that they used less energy if you wanted to cook a small amout of food
No need to par boil them Baldy. I did 2 versions. Hairy Biker chap: Soak in salted cold water, for about 15/20 minutes, rinse in cold water, just leave the saucepan overflowing. Dry them off, olive oil in a bowl, chuck chips in to coat, stick in air fryer on chip setting after pre-heating for 4 minutes. My version, soak in boiled salt water in a bowl for 10 minutes, rinse, dry, then do the same as the John Myers version. The salted water gets rid of the starch. Cooked in a Tower 9 litre double drawer. 100% perfect, just keep an eye on them last 4/5 minutes, crunchy and fluffy in side. Shook mine a couple of times.
My favourite combo on wedges is Paprika, jerk, garlic powder, white pepper, chilli powder cooked til crispy then dip em in cold mayo and cholula hot sauce mmmm, really like the look of this machine eyeing one up on ebay
I have to get one of those bad boys. I have a small kitchen and this would be ideal. pS. I had the M&S beef filled yorksupiddings. Just as a snack and it was delicious. I’m looking forward to the gammon shanks.
Looking good try putting paprika and garlic powder on plus I would have boiled the potatoes in there skins then peeled much easier 😋 thanks for the review x
Beautiful smart cooker! I have a a Sage kettle and toaster and they are brilliant! I always use Maris Piper, peel and cut them then soak them in cold water for 30 mins. I empty the water, rinse the chips and leave to sit for another 30 mins at room temp. Swop the water again rinse and sit again for 30 mins! The more starch you get out, the better the dip will be! When you are ready to use them, empty the prepared chips out onto a clean tea towel and dry they chips! I have a salad spinner and that works great to dry the chips! I don’t oil the chips before cooking. I preheat the air fryer but I set the temperature at 180. I cook them at a lower temp for a longer time and the chips come out perfectly cooked and dangerously addictive! Can’t wait to see what magic you pull out of your new smart cooker! Enjoy!
Really appreciate this video. It's wonderful. Thank you very much. I was just wondering about your blue pan on your hob. It looks like the kind of thing. My partner needs many thanks indeed. How much is it and where did you get it from? Many thanks indeed lot of love x❤️ tash

Cheers Rob
My favourite combo on wedges is Paprika, jerk, garlic powder, white pepper, chilli powder cooked til crispy then dip em in cold mayo and cholula hot sauce mmmm, really like the look of this machine eyeing one up on ebay
Sounds great!
My smart oven has the crumb tray above the heating bars. I would suggest you always put one of the solid shelves over the bottom heat bars.
I have to get one of those bad boys. I have a small kitchen and this would be ideal.
pS. I had the M&S beef filled yorksupiddings. Just as a snack and it was delicious. I’m looking forward to the gammon shanks.
They do a Chicken one too--and that's really good as well.
@@cooperization I shall look out for that tomorrow when I go in. I think they are great for a snack.
Sounds great!
You can't beat a good old fashioned chip pan. £9 from Asda.
Looking good try putting paprika and garlic powder on plus I would have boiled the potatoes in there skins then peeled much easier 😋 thanks for the review x
Thanks for the tip
Enjoy!
Cheers
I thought the fashion now was for 'skin on fries'. That's the ones I like most.
Really appreciate this video. It's wonderful. Thank you very much. I was just wondering about your blue pan on your hob. It looks like the kind of thing. My partner needs many thanks indeed. How much is it and where did you get it from? Many thanks indeed lot of love x❤️ tash
Glad it was helpful!
Yes my eletric Oven won't cook oven chips like that, you have to get them out and turn them around. but i leave them in for 30 minutes.

what happens to the grease that falls down ? is that why it was smoking ?
So if I get this estimate about right.... It took 40+ minutes to make some chips? Start to finish
