Bravo, loved this!
I love you, Ryan.
This makes my heart happy
I always found it interesting how Onimusha one was a horror action game while every game afterwards was an adventure game, 3 is such a good game
And that's why 1 is the best one. Same goes for DMC1. Action horror games are true gems.
@@Walamonga1313 Oni 1 has better level design, 3 has better combat. All of them have pretty good bosses
I first played this game when I was 16. Now I'm 32. Damn. Feels like yesterday!
I remember back when CZcams didn't exist and all a game's secrets weren't immediately discovered and shared online. I remember discovering issen by accident and trying to figure out how to do it consistently. I remember reading a guide on GameFAQs that was far from comprehensive or finished.
Back then we didn't have trophies/achievements. It was up to gaming communities to come up with challenges, so someone in Onimusha's GameFAQs message board came up with the idea for a starting katana run! A challenge that would have been about as masochistic as playing Resident Evil 2 with just the knife-which people have done-if it weren't for issen!
Thankfully, I always loved the starting katana because in my eyes it was by far the most beautiful of Samanosuke's weapons, so I immediately pounced onto the opportunity to replay the game with this self-imposed limitation ... and it was _glorious!_ I loved the combat so much that I did the Bishamon sword sidequest, too. And then I still hadn't had enough, so I did it all again!!
16 years and no other game has scratched that particular itch. Sekiro or Ghost of Tsushima might come close, but I'm still _extremely_ happy that Capcom is doing this and I can't wait to get my hands on the remaster and do another katana run ❤
You are 16 back in 2001 because that's when the game came out I was five when I first played this game your about 10 years older than me
Same here man, except I was 13. I remember renting it a lot from blockbuster until I eventually never returned it.
Between the tales of Samanosuke Akechi and Yagyū Jūbei, the latter's may have been the most heartfelt, but Akechi-san will forever be the heart and soul of the franchise! Brilliant analysis on a timeless classic! :D
I haven't heard of Onimusha in a good while. Also didn't know of the upcoming remake. It'll be definitely something to keep my eyes on.
Great video as always Ragnar!
*fucks your profile picture*
to be honest at least its on more then just ps4 with it being on xbox one and pc so im happy now
I love a forward kind of guy who tells me how he wants it. But, to meet such a desire, you must first buy me dinner.
I don't know about others, but I LOVE 90's/early 2000's English voice acting for Japanese games. A lot of people consider it bad and maybe it is, but there is something so charming about it. It's so pure and just honest, even if it is amateur. Reminds me of being a kid. The original Witcher is another one of my favorite games and the voice acting in that is really awkward at times, but there is just something really charming about dubs to me.
I'm loving your accent, it's super mystical and intriguing
What accent?
RagnarRox it’s just ur voice is expressive and not like cheesy movie voice.
Lol
its too mystical not even you noticed 😉

So excited for the PS4 remaster. The wait has been too long.
The Glass Man I didn't hear about this! Release date?
PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC
I found out about the remaster when I pre-ordered the RE 2 remake lol. I still can't believe it's selling for $20. That basically confirmed that Dark Souls remastered was a freaking rip off -_-
So glad you finally cover this game. Onimusha is essentially the original "souls_like" games & possibly even the grandpa of DMC series.
Also, you kinda forgot on mentioning that Onimusha also featured 3D model character from IRL actor & motion capture techs in an action video game which was I think pretty ground breaking at the time.
Now please do Front Mission series next!! #forgottengems
Why do you have only 138k subs? You deserve so much more.
I think that while there's a strong case for what you said, the combat in Onimusha is just way more enjoyable and I guess less chaotic? than the Souls titles.
DeliciousDishes I agree. There’s nothing quite like Onimusha.
I remember seeing a lot of reviews on Onimusha back when there were still a lot of PlayStation magazines and such. Never got around to Play It, but you know what It reminds me of? Oldie but goldie PlayStation Soul of the Samurai.
That was a really strange, hard and unusual survival horror Game.
Ronin Blade to us in Europe.
I’m the only person I know who played it.. I have a number of games like that on PS1 and PC from that time.
At the risk of sounding like a huge shill, I have a walkthrough of Onimusha without commentary if people are interested. Also love the content as always Ragnar. Ended up playing I have no mouth and I must scream and just got bloodlines the masquerade because of you ^.^
All good games, very fun to play even today, Bloodlines the masquerade is great too.
Onimusha definitley requires a guide at some parts
God I loved the Onimusha games.
Wish capcom make an inyuyasha game
Wish capcom could make an inuyashiki game.
@@johnlawful2272 lolol
One of my most favorite games of all time. Such fond memories of playing it when I was a kid. Lol bought all of the games again a couple years ago and played through them. They still hold up as good fun
Just wanted to say thanks for making awesome video essays my dude! been watching since the video about the void, and your care and time spent crafting each video is refreshing.
I can definitely see a linkage between the King's Field series and Demon's Soul with Onimusha.
This is one of those rare games that got fixed-camera-angle action game formula so correct (more than the original DMC imo)
Great video, as always!
@Djololo Yes.
But the fixed camera angles were made for claustrophobic environments and not for combat. Onimusha is built for both claustrophobia AND combat too, which I think is quite impressive.
Ooo I don’t know about that... the original DMC still holds up quite well. Both of these games are some of my all time favorites.
I don’t know which I’d pick between the two...
Absolutely beautifully done as always. Worth the wait.
I'm glad its not going to be a forgotten gem here soon.
Your editing is so clean, I love it! It makes watching your videos, even ones like this where I have no person ties to the subject in question, so damn exciting just to see how sleek the video'll look!
Thanks for covering up one of my favorites atmospheric games of all time! Great work! ❤🐍
Ragnar, you are really motivating me to do something like this in the future.
KEEP THE GREAT WORK DUDE.
I loved the original onimusha a lot and played it through so many times. ❤️
Just wanted to say I really like your content mate. Thanks for all the videos!
Also I just have to say the fact that you have added your own subtitles... perfect!
Thank you so much for bringing focus to this, Ragnar!
Through the entirety of the video, I couldn't help but think "man! I really need to emulate this game" as it looked amazing!"- and the re-release of it makes it a perfect timing to pick it up. Quality vid as always!
Thank you so much, I love this series
Yay you are back!
Oh my goodness! I still remember myself playing this game as a kid a decade ago! Was so desperate to found out it's name but i couldn't. And here one of my favorite youtubers brings me my truly forgotten gem! I'm going to play it again immediately! Thanks, Ragnar!
I bought the Remaster on Steam 12 days ago & love it, thanks for this Hidden Gem and all your other content, loads of interesting stuff and lots of insight.
Dude, you're audio levels are spectacular.
your editing is superb.
A must buy for Onimusha fans!!!!! We need to revive this game to his full glory
Onimusha was amazing!
Onimusha is actually one of my favorite games of all time. Thank you for covering this game, brother! It's good to see if out in the light again!
I remember this game, it was amazing! Good video!
Dude, I loved this series when I was a kid. Especially Onimusha 2. I would gladly pay money for a remastered/remake collection.
Another great video
A man's life is fifty years --
But a wink in the life of the cosmos:
A dream, or an illusion.
Very well ,very well .....
This hit me hard...😳
was playing genma onimusha Xbox version the other day and this game aged very well. If you play the xbox version, you'll get the best experience because it had this evil doll that showed up in all these certain locations that made the game a bit more scarier than the ps2. Overall, I'm sure this game will get a sequel in the future.
It did aged well. Onimusha dawn of dreams still has one of the best battle mechanics even today
Heh HUH HUH HUH Huh Heh I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that was the superior version of the game. I can't believe I still own it after all these years. It's such a great series!
No. The xbox version adds new enemies (evil doll being one), a new combat mechanic (Green orbs), a super long tower to climb with extra enemies and a hidden boss for good rewards, new armors and some added polish. You're thinking of that creepy dude that takes you to the realms.
The only thing bad I can say about the Xbox version is that it's harder but it's still the better version because it has more content and more features in it
@@RaengStinger oh nice, is that the version we're getting with the remake?
Wow... how nostalgic! My brother and I both played through this game several times when it was first released for my ps2 at the time. Thanks for the great news regarding the upcoming re-release.
Ugh Onimusha was so good! Loved this video!
Actually picked this up at a second hand store for a dollar a few days before you uploaded this. I'd played through most of it years ago during the video store golden age, but had to take it back before I could beat it. The second I saw those three-eyed shinobi the memories came flooding back. Time to dust off my PS2.
Thank you for letting me know this I immediately copped Warlords, this is one of the only horror games that I have been able to play and I love it to pieces.
Thanks again. I missed this so much
Loved this game thanks for taking me back to it
this is one of my favorite game series ever, glad to see the remaster
I fuckin LOVE this game. I've replayed it countless times over the years
This brought a tear to my eye, all the memories of playing with my little bro. So glad we get an hd release!
First SEGA bring Yakuza to Steam, now CAPCOM are bringing back Onimusha: Warlords in an HD Re-release. I could cry! It's like they're re-releasing my childhood. Now, if they HD remaster/port Dino Crisis 1 and 2 or announce Dino Crisis 4 I would be a very happy man!
And parasite eve too
I had no idea of this HD remaster, can't wait!
This was one of my few childhood games! I played it and the second one so much and wanted to find everything through my many playthroughs. Definitely one of the best games in my 7-9-year-old self's life. Can't wait to play it in January as an adult and actually understand the nuances and complexities of the story! Thanks Ragnar!
I clicked this video immediately, i watched my brother play this growing up, it freaked the hell out of me & it was so much fun. i'm so happy for this remaster
I really like your voice. It's not too forceful and its not too monotonous either. It's just perfect for radio play.
Great work, man. Will play the game soon :)
This guy the authority on voices
YES! MY FAVORITE GAME/SERIES OF ALL TIME! So can't wait for the re-release
This game always struck me as a perfect combination of Resident Evil and Soul of the Samurai (a game that I wholeheartedly Love!)
Awesome video. I've subbed to your channel. :)
I hope Capcom remasters Onimusha 2 and 3 as well.
thank you for making me tear up
I dont know how your channel has 140k subs, your videos are exceptionally well made, your pronuntiation is flawless so its easy to understand for people that english isnt their main language like me and the amount of research you put into each video, wow. You even take the time to pronounce the japanese names and terms right, something that most english speakers totally butcher. Love you channel dude!!!
This is one of my favs from the ps2 era. I had no idea of the remake coming. This is great news!
It`s so great to be able to play this masterpiece of a game again. I´m so excited about this, you won`t believe it ^^
Thanks for this. Was a great game. :)
Dawn of dreams was sooo cool. I wish it would get a remake.
Demon realm in dawn of dreams is still,to this day,the most awesome and most intense part of any videogame i have ever played
Your voice is so relaxing to listen to
Yay! New video in my favorite series on YT!
OMGosh! About time the released an HD version! I never understood why they never released it again. It's one of the best series IMO.
Thank you good sir. I to this day still have my ps2 with all 5 Onimusha games the 1st 3 then the smash lookalike fighter & Onimusha Dawn of Dreams I think that’s the name. Great video & I’ll definitely be getting the remastered. 👍👍👍
As always, a beautiful video. But, now you have to do "Blade of darkness" :) Hugely satisfying gameplay!
I loved this game so much back in the days. Though I still dread that one water puzzle.
It forgotten anymore, my dude! It's back and better than ever!
This game was so amazing. Blew my mind at the time.
what a good video!
The first game I ever bought for my PS2 and still my favourite on that console. Brings back so many memories.
Going to have to play this one, did not play it back in 2001 but was curious.
Great video and voice ;-)
I believe that second title of the Onimusha was the best with its new mechanics such as friendship system. And as a child it was the first ps2 game i have ever seen so i have soft spot for it. You should check out the second title too especially seeing that you used soundtrack for the second game. Amazing video btw
played the game for the first time last summer on my old ps2 and i was completely blown away by it. i am eager to get my hands ont he remaster. this series needs more exposure.
Good job and thank you I wish upon this sooner I’m a few days behind since you posted it but it was done very well and again thank you I grew up playing the game as a kid and loved it ever cents and my friends constantly give me crap about bringing it up when there are so in the dark souls and demon souls and blood-borne, I stick with the original. Oni and I’m happy as hell that they’re bringing it back to been a long wait.
Onimusha is a sweet summer vacation memory for me 👍
Wow, that some great news! In my PS2 days, I've only played the Third one. And lived it.
Onimusha Warlords was also ported to PC in 2003.
And it was a horrible port
It was an acceptable port tbh. Sure, it didn't support widescreen or Xinput controllers, but those weren't the standard in 2003.
The real problem is that it was released only in Asia and Russia.
@@jigendaisuke8962 i disagree in regards to it being anywhere decent. 90% of people had and still have huge frame rate issues, its locked at 640×480 i believe and so many graphical issues on everything i tried to run it on(windows xp,7,8.1,10-nothing changed).
It was a lazy port...no matter how much u try to justify it. I did try on xp even in 2007 and it had visual glitches up the wazoo and 15 fps was the norm.Other games were ported earlier and dont have that many issues as this port. In 2003 i did expect it to not be locked at 640x480 or better be told...i expected at least 30fps if not 60...just saying
I didn’t know that. I did get far on Onimusha 3 on the PC.
Man I miss this game so much. Can't wait for the remaster.
I was obsessed with Onimusha games back in my teens
Dude, you should take a look at the first Grandia game for the PS1. Most of your Forgotten Gems have been my favorite childhood games and Grandia would be another addition to that list!
Great work with the videos btw, keep it up
I loved this game as a kid. My brother and I used to play this all the time.
Oh man, i remember having some boss fight at the train station lasting maybe under 5 seconds. Your boy was lighting that biatch up with issens left, front, back, and center. Can't wait for the HD remaster!
I remember playing the second and third. I always tell people about it or bring it up. It's such a good game.
god damn I cannot believe I forgot about this game, forgotten gem indeed I need to dig through my old stuff and see if I can find my old PS2 and onimusha.
Glad to hear that it's getting a remaster, since for whatever reason I passed on Onimusha. More of a DMC guy, I guess. While I disagree about games like Dark Souls providing more thoughtful combat than most hack and slash/character action games, (DmC 2013 excluded) nice to know that there's still a market for these kinds of slower action games.
Man, I was first introduced to the Onimusha series when I got my PS2 as a birthday present but had no games to play on it.
So every other month, my friends lent me some of his games -bless his kind heart- and one day he lent me Onimusha 4: Dawn of Dreams.
The combat looked and felt very action-packed, with an interesting setting and great music, I was quickly hooked and beat the game in a week.
...Only to realize on my second playthrough how to equip other weapons.
Sadly, he didn't have the other games, but I cherished what time I had with the fourth game and looked at some videos of the previous games on youtube.
I never forgot new this game from the beginning
Well said. I need to revisit the franchise.
I had fun playing this but I was also freaked out a bit as a kid. It was really eerie.
My god I love the Onimusha series. I’m glad capcom is bringing it back with a remastered version and giving it the attention it deserves. Hopefully get a brand new one in the future
I love Onimusha, and Samonosuke is one of my favourite characters. He's so heroic! Between Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2, Silent Hill 2 and Onimusha, 2001 was a special year, for me. I still play all of these games to this day. Usually, IF I'm lucky, there's just one game per year that has that kind of staying power for me, but even that's not common. There's nothing from 2002-2004, for example. And then in 2005/6, we got the updated version of MGS 3, and we got God Hand and DMC 3. These are also games that I continue to play today.
Anyways, I can't wait for the HD Remaster of Onimusha. It means that, as an Englishman, I'm finally going to be able to play the game at full 60hz, rather than the slower 50hz that I've been limited to since its 2001 release.
This is my childhood...the first game as a young child that started to finally comprehend this shit world we call life...gives me so much memories...cant wait till my son is old enough to experience this just like I did.
I remember being terrified but loving the game as a kid
I never forgot it! In fact I still play Genma Onimusha from time to time on my original Xbox
Man this game looks awesome
The opening and ending cinematics were really high quality, and that goes for the entire trilogy. I used to keep a save file near the end so I could rewatch whenever I wanted.
