    The acting of all characters, particularly that of the main characters, Jane and Rochester, is far superior to what one sees today. So much of the acting is wonderfully done by their facial expression, especially by Ms.Z.Clarke (Jane). The story adaptation is excellent. Fully developed characters and not having to resort to vulgarity as is the norm in 2022. Many thanks for uploading this series. A wonderful escape from our mad world.

      I agree, we can't have the books we love adapted faithfully. We have to have all the garbage of today, (that I'm trying to escape), mixed in to appeal to the general public.
      I think this version did the absolute best with the leaving Mr. Rochester scene. The chapter in the book was so beautifully written and the emotion was so raw and captivating. Tears stream down my face everytime I go back to that chapter. I wish I could see an adaptation with an hour long portrayal of the scene but maybe that's just me haha

    Rochester is used to dramatic women. He knows how to deal with crying and screaming, you just throw jewels at that kind of woman. He recognizes that Jane is a greater person than that, but he hasn't learned yet how to treat her. People call this book misogynist, but it is a plea for men to recognize women as people, not playthings.

      That's a common complaint with various versions, but think about it. It's one thing for an author to describe a character a certain way and leave it to the readers' imagination. It's a different thing when turning it into a movie and everyone will see the characters. The producers can't make the characters too unappealing. Otherwise, people wouldn't watch and wouldn't sympathize with the characters if they're supposed to.

    • @arladicey
      @arladicey Před rokem +10

      Certainly, yes... but differently from the character in the story the term actually came from. In Rochester's case, he has lived in an impossible situation, one which his family trapped him in, for most of his adult life. At that time, the church didn't permit divorces under those circumstances. This doesn't excuse what he did... but in the end, it could be said that he paid dearly for how he handled the whole business. And, it could also be said that Jane was not restored to him until he did. Unlike the character in the original Gaslight story, Rochester actually loved Jane; his redemption, and therefore his true earning of Jane's love, came through suffering for his actions first.

      I'm almost afraid to read Wild Sargasso Sea because this book is my favourite book of all time and I don't want Rochester ruined in my head.
      This version was very close to the scene in the book but something about this portrayal seems off. Perhaps it is the petulance in Jane's tone or the almost impossibly handsome Rochester. But if she had stayed, in time, when the sexual daze wore off, he would not have respected her. Bronte even says so in the book. And more importantly, she would not have been able to respect herself. The ending of this story tho, it was PERFECT!

    No respetan la obra de Charlotte Bronte para nada!! Me enoja la verdad!! Jane ni bien se entera de Bertha, si, le dice q lo ama más q nunca pero no puede quedarse con él. Ella sale lo más rápido posible de la casa. Con el corazón destrozado pero segura q hace bien en dejarlo. Charlotte Bronte acá se luce no sólo con el personaje sino también con el giro tan novedoso para la época. Ninguna mujer se quedaría con Rochester sabiendo q ya está casado!! Que a Rochester lo engañaron para casarse no lo justifica para mentir.
    Y la sobre actuación tan dramática de Thimoty Dalton deja mucho q desear. Parece encaprichado con Jane más q enamorado y tan mal de la cabeza como Bertha xd!!😋
