  • Colin Cowherd reacts to the UConn Huskies winning their 2nd straight NCAA Tournament as Donovan Clingan's squad bested Zach Edey's Purdue Boilmakers in the final game of March Madness. Colin gives love to Dan Hurley and the UConn program and wonders if they are the most dominant team in college basketball over the last 25 years. Colin later gives his take on John Calipari going to Arkansas and what coaches would be the best for the job at Kentucky.

    When people often think of the Blue Bloods in College Basketball they think Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, UCLA, and Indiana. But in the last 25+ years I believe UConn is a modern-day Blue Blood. They just are. They have built the legacy of being a Blue Blood. Even in the 1980s they were incredible. In the 1990s they were incredible. Of course the old Big East in the 80s and 90s was amazing.
    In the last 25 years UConn has 6 championships. Duke and North Carolina have 3 each. UCLA's last title was 1996. Indiana has not won a title in seemingly forever (87?). Kansas and Kentucky have maybe 2 each in the last 25. So those 6 titles in 25 years has to mean something. I'm not a UConn alumnus or fan, but I have tremendous respect for what they have achieved. I really believe we need to start thinking of this program as a modern-day Blue Blood.

    Eddy was not dominant, he was ALLOWED TO GET HIS and UConn locked DOWN THE OTHERS. Just like USC did to Iowa. Great Coaches can SCHEME against good players like Eddy or Clark (just like Gino A laid that wood on Clark! Mullkey sucks as a Coach.) The stat line looks good but it is the BOTTOM LINE that matters. There may be a place for Eddy in the NBA but NOT OFFENSIVELY...WHO is gonna wait for or even allow him to take 8 dribbles in the paint or clog the middle for all of these fluid, fast, quick Players. If Eddy focuses on being a LOCK DOWN DEFENDER and Rebounder and maybe a rim runner he could do well. But the quickness and foot work of the NBA Bigs is unbelievable even those like Looney might be to much for him. I can't wait to see where he will be among the REAL Bigs.

    Zach Edey should have touched the ball on EVERY PLAY. Everytime he got the ball, the UConn defense either colapsed in or left a smaller defender on an island against him. He is also a pretty good passer so he could've probably found open shooters when they decided to double him.

      He wasn't double teamed that much. He was mostly defended individually by Clingan who was the biggest defender he has faced all season (still had a monster game because Edey is just awesome). Purdue did leave some open shots on the table in the last 5 minutes or so but those were on the transition. Would have made it closer but they couldn't keep pace defensively at the end so it probably wouldn't have mattered. Everything was going in for UConn.

    @edkiely2712 Před měsícem +5

    Edey has his limitations! His dexterity, touch, and footwork are average at best! UConn took advantage of him on the pick-and-roll multiple times because he can only do drop-coverage and, if he shows at all, he gets a lob over his head or, he can't recover with his lumbering feet to his man. In the end, UConn was the obviously superior team throughout the tournament! Great to watch well-coached teams! Well done!

    • @justinbuska3499
      @justinbuska3499 Před měsícem

      His touch is extremely good for someone his size. Most 6-11 guys let alone 7-4 guys in D-1 can't hit the jump hook with anywhere near the same consistency or range of Edey. Most 7-3+ guys in CBB can't even catch a simple post entry with consistency and most are on the bench. There are a number of them out there that we just don't hear about.
