Join Juaquin Lonelodge as he visits with his grandmother, Charlotte Lumpmouth. Charlotte recounts her many years as a beader and fabricator of traditional buckskin dresses.
Your grandmother is a treasure. You are very lucky to have her pass on her knowledge to you. She is an amazing master beader. The look she gave you when you told her you burn your knots made me laugh. Great video!
I’m Cheyenne & Arapaho, didn’t start beading until 2 years ago.I have my grandmothers buckskin dress, she passed before finishing it… I’ve been waiting until I feel confident enough to work on it.I really needed these types of tutorials, I live far from my other tribal family and my grandmother who I learned the most from is gone..I’ve been having to learn a lot on my own and need some guidance from C&A elders. Thank you.❤
She made me tear up when she suprised you with the leggings she was making from the design that was on her leggings.. Absolutely Beautiful..What a Gift and Treasure She is..Blessings
So lucky to be able to still see the beautiful elder grandmothers sharing their wisdom & art. such a sweet inspiration and am so grateful to watch, thank you.
That is so special. I would be so honored to have her make me or my daughter her design!!! I almost cried. What an honor to have your grandmother teach you
I love the fact that you not only listen but hear your grandmother, many don't take the time to actively seek out our elders and learn our ways. Her beadwork is phenomenal! Nya:Weh for sharing your wonderful gram with us!
This is special to see your interactions with your grandmother. I’m learning so much. I too have left my knots on the outside of my beadwork and burned the ends with a lighter. The look and laugh your grandmother gave you when she heard that was priceless! Thank you for sharing everything with us.
How lovely that your Grandmother is willing to teach - those baby backboards are beyond beautiful WOW - I love the colors on both she showed. Family traditions are so important. Blessing to all.
It was so wonderful to watch your Grandmother share her story and wonderful knowledge of beadwork. This was truly lovely to watch. Thank you Mr.Lonelodge and to your Wonderful Grandmother for sharing. And to those watching pls help support so that this show and other wonderful shows like it can stay on the air.
I agree. these techniques need to carry on. this is truly exquisite. like a true master her work is superb outside as well as inside the piece.its fascinating how that extra hide hides all stitches and how she hides her knots under the beading work. her pieces are proba b ly like butter to wear. thank u for sharing. she is truly a treasure
Thank you for all the videos you provide for us to watch, learn, and carry on the tradition of the Native American ways. Thank you so much for sharing this part of your culture with us, especially along side your grand mother. Like us we to have different patterns similar to your bead work, however we only use thread to create the design called taniko weaving. Unfortunately we had no large animals only birds, there were seals but, there is no record of them ever being used for clothing. You are truly amazing. He aroha nui rawa atu kia korua. Nga mihi. Greetings much love and gratitude.
I enjoyed this so much!! Please ask granny to do a moccasin from start to finish!!! I have 4 little dancers I would love to make these for them. I have a moose moose hide and a deer hides just waiting for me. Your grandmother is Lovely.

thank you for introducing us to your grandmother. Im hand sewing my first pair and I am also going to bead the "tongue and collar" once completed. thanks again!
I live in Florida and go to Mount Dora Pow Wow's every year. My family is Chickasaw and Cherokee, Messick/Colbert and Clement/Smith. I didn't get to know that side for very long. The teachings are wonderful and helpful. On my Great Grandfather's ranch he raised Appaloosas, but I found out I came from the raccoon Clan. Yours Tepee, I want to learn the old way and add the new. Do you have any suggestions. Well appreciated and respect.
💜 thanku ! Your Gram is awesome I learned a lot watching this. When she starts the 2nd row it looks like she goes under the beads then just pierced the hide once instead of twice when you 1st start the row ? I am from tuscarora but my grams father was oglala im trying to learn the lazy stitch for a pair of mocs for my baby nephew on the way. This was nice - I miss my Grandma's they're both passed now. Wish I had recorded them just to hear their voices again 💜
