A tour of the inside of my 2000 Casita Spirit Deluxe travel trailer that I've lived and traveled in for 10 years. www.casitaclub.com/ www.casitaforum.com/ www.fiberglassrv.com/
Thanks for the tour of your 2000 SD Casita. I have a treasure, a 2015 SD with a/c on top (which I've never used!). I was super lucky to buy it from my cousin at a family discount. I hope you show your floor remodel and any problems/challenges it takes. You inspire me to live simply, instead of stuff you have experiences!
Just discovered your channel. I like your easy going attitude. Also the Casita. Please look into Allure vinyl strip flooring. Easy to install and is waterproof. Laminate like Pergo etc is more difficult on small spaces and is NOT waterproof.
I love ❤️ your Home. I do wish my husband & I would just hit the Road. We have a small 22 ft. Class C. We live in a 32 Ft. TT with 2 slides. But my favorite we rebuilding a 15 ft. Hi lo actual inside is only 11x61/2 I LOVE TINY! I Do dream of Hitting the Road.......Ty for the tour.
Thanks for the nice video, it's great to see what life in this trailer is like and it looks perfect to me. Especially for one person. Could do 2 if needed but might want a larger camper for 2 would you say? Can't wait till I am living the life myself! Thanks again for the inside peek! Tammie Miller
Hi AltRockLover, I got use to living in it while I was traveling, it's very efficient. Haha It's not cluttered because I hate to clean and not having clutter makes it as easy to clean as I can make it. I just listened to In the Court of the Crimson King, great album! Bill
Adorable home! Amazing they fit that much into 16 ft. The bathroom was very large. I wish you had opened some of the cabinets so we could see the space inside and the depth.
I'm going to do a new video when I hit the road this winter and I'll be sure to show the inside of the cabinets and talk a little more about storage in the trailer. I;m sure that would be helpful to others as well. Take care, Bill
Enjoy your videos, I'm a bit older than you and have been through 4 trailers, all small and agree with your prospective on camping. The problem I have had with all of the campers is the refrigerator. Living in south Florida I have lost much of my fresh foods due to improper temperature. Many days the fridge temperature excedes 45. Unfortunately I go through a lot of ice in a regular cooler. What make or system do you use. I presently have a KC trailer with a Dometic refrigerator. In the seventies I had a fiberglass trailer, it was a single wall system and condensation was a problem. It was very cool though, I towed it with a VW vanagon, talk about under power. Wish I had it back now, it weighed next to nothing.
A good camper refrigerator is the "Whynter". Look those up on line. Some vanners and RVers choose the Whynter because you can hook it up to your solar. They are expensive but... One guy sets his Whynter for freezing. He stores his frozen items in it along with ice cubes for his cooler. That way, he never runs out of ice for his cooler and still has his freezer for other items and ice cubes. They come in different sizes. www.amazon.com/Whynter-FM-45G-45-Quart-Portable-Refrigerator/dp/B002W8BLUG
Great setup.. Everything you need.. Much better tan a huge 5th wheel that would limit where you go and cost a fortune to drive.. Right now I have a Starcraft pop up and my Ram truck.. I have a toilet and shower so it's great.. and I can take it anywhere.. Thinking about trading for a small RV or truck camper.. I agree that going as small as what you are comfortable in is the smart way to go.. Great videos WW..
***** Hey Justin thanks for stopping by. In your last video you were talking about the benefits of not having walls that rot. I couldn't agree with you more, even my cabinets are fiberglass, the only exposed wood in the trailer are the cabinet and bathroom doors. The floor under the carpet is also fiberglassed into the bottom molded fiberglass piece. I'm feeling bad for Happily Houseless, water seems out to get him and there is a lot of water in the world. Take care
Really liked the AC unit (traditional from home depot or lowes types-----They seem to be using roof types now- I will inquiry if they can use the side mount type AC!
Very mellow informative vid. Like the simplicity and functionality. Your floor plan 5 with bath is the best! Much respect for your lifestyle. Considering a 16ft for camping family of 3. Any thoughts?
Hi Rich, A 16' might be a little tight for three, Scamp does make a model that has bunk beds in the front instead of the bathroom and closet. Of course if your just talking weekends and vacations you could always add a tent using the trailer for adults and to be the center of activities. Take care, Bill
Do or have you gone overseas ? I think that would be the ultimate trip. My dad was a career officer ( fighter pilot) 33 years service. So I spent the first 23 years of my life living in Europe and Southeast Asia and severall years in Turkey with my 8 siblings. He is 93 and still takes care of his own business. So I have been looking at these travel trailers, now that I have been retried for several years. I like the size of yours but want something that has a more substantial latrine ( separate shower) . Did it take long to get use to not having a separate shower? Thank you for sharing your home , it did help to answer some questions.
+Gypsy Free I think it's only like 86 square feet. You'll need something that will tow at least 3,000#s. Up on Casitaclub.com or CasitaForum.com you can find out what folks are towing with, lots of options! Bill

Hey Rick, I've camped at Silver lake a few times, there's also a dry camping CG north of the lake that's heavily wooded which is very nice. Thanks for the compliment. Take care, Bill
hi and thanks,,, my question is do you cook in the trailer? i mean 3 course type meals? i enjoy cooking like Italian food ect and since no oven could you use a dutch oven ? just wondering thanks
+Dave Fyffe Hey Dave, I cook all the time, not having an oven isn't really a big issue for me I just work around it. I used to have a microwave in my trailer and I took it out because I do so much boondocking I hardly ever got any use out of it ( I didn't use it that much anyway). Take a look at the Omnia oven, a boating friend of mine loves his and others I've met that had one loved them as well. I've seen lots of people using toaster type ovens and then there's the Coleman oven that sits on a burner and also backpacking ovens (I've never seen anyone backpacking with one though!). Take care, Bill
How do you like the carpeting on the walls? I read somewhere that carpeting is bad for a persons health. I can see where it would keep the camper warmer inside. One guy who does home inspections said that carpeting was one of the worst things that we have in our homes.
The carpet is ok, not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm working on a video for my Casita channel about the carpet now. I just cleaned it so the first vid will be on cleaning it plus misc, the second video will be on re-gluing it. Bill
Beautiful videos! Is the cupboard with the battery vented? As for the hazard detectors, are there ones available that use rechargeable batteries? As for where you store your cooking oil: consider storing it lower. When I was 20 years old, I had cooking oil stored above the stove & oven. I had a family get together with both my mom & mom in law & everyone. My mom went to open that cupboard to look for something & the OIL EXPLODED! It was such a trip. It had gotten too hot. No one got hurt, so that's the best part of that story, lol. For the refrigerator, seals can be bought for other conventional fridges. How curious that you can't do that, too.
Hi Kate,Nope the cupboard is not vented, the AGM batteries really don't off gas or need much ventilation. I've quit using any cooking oil all together so I no longer have to worry about it clogging my arteries or exploding! Hahaha. I've looked into using a conventional fridge seal, there is one out there to make custom seals that I may try in the future. Take care, Bill
+Mike Dempsey Hey Mike, The only thing major I really dislike about the 16' is the ill fitting door and the cheap door latch. I've replaced that latch 4 times. I'd suggest getting a spare door latch to carry if you get one. It's easy to change but the door won't stay shut when the latch breaks. Take care, Bill
Interesting tour of your Casita! Almost makes me want to get a trailer like it. Is it easy to hook up with your car? How much car is needed to tow it? Again, nice video.
This is my second comment and I am so interested in your travels. I don't know if I would ever go full time but I would love to do some major trips using my Casita and kayak (I am an avid fisherman) especially taking on the Florida West Coast and working my way around the Gulf Coast to the tip of Texas. Have you ever considered taking in a journey such as this? Would love to know some great places to stay not only on the West Coast of Florida (you have pointed to a few places in some limited ways) but along the entire Gulf Coast. STEVE
+Steve P Hey Steve, I did the gulf coast in early 2005 (I can't believe it's been that long) the same year Katrina visited. I was actually up at Itasca SP in Minnesota at the head waters of the Mississippi when Katrina hit New Orleans. I really like Hwy 90 in MS and the state parks in LA, Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest are definitively worth seeing in New Orleans (I usually stay at Fontainebleau SP). Excellent Cajun/Zydeco music and food just west of NO. I've never gone down the coast in Texas yet though. I've been through Matamoros and Laredo several times on previous trips down to Mexico and Central America but traveled inland. One of these winters I want to do the coast of Texas then west up the RGV to Del Rio (which I've been to a few times). I love RGV grapefruits! Bill
So is Florida your base state pretty much? I have a travel trailer too but a little larger. Glad I didn't buy a bigger one, because I would have filled it up with stuff too. The more space you have the more you fill it up, as I am sure you know.
Hi Gary, Florida does not have state income tax which is why a lot of folks like it. I've lived here almost forever that's why I'm here. If you want to mainly travel in the east I think it would probably be one of the best choices. Bill
No, I am a son of the west and I plan to stay here. I have been spending most of the year in Arizona since I retired. I can camp for free almost everyplace I go in the state. And from talking with my brother in Florida, food is cheaper here too. I enjoy your channel though and agree with most of what I have heard so far. But thanks for the info and happy travels.
Is your ceramic toilet the same size (seat) as one in a home? Also, does Casita install it as an option? Thanks again for always replying to my comments.
+Mitch Kolber Yep it's the same size and it is the standard toilet that comes with the bathroom. You can get Casitas without a bathroom if that is what you're asking?? Bill
Do you use the built in heater/furnace often? I am thinking about not including a heater/furnace when I order my Casita. I don't care for cold weather too much so I don't plan on needing a heater much.
***** Hey George. I love my built in heater! I use it to quickly warm the trailer in the mornings, when I'm traveling (lunch or break) and overnights when I don't have electric and it's going to freeze. I carry a Mr. buddy and a cube heater as well. When I have electric I'll run the cube heater, I use the Mr. Buddy from time to time with refilled canisters. You may not need the heater but it is nice to have when you do need it. Bill
thanks for sharing your home. I would greatly appreciate information, or a whole video on head room. At 6 foot 1 inche of height, this is a key issue to me. I have heard various conflicting information about this, and would veryt much like to know the facts. I am mainly looking at Casita and Scamp.
Hi Tom, The 16' is 5'11" inside and I'm 5'11 and can just stand up straight, the 17' is 6' 3" or so, I'd go check them out to see how you feel inside, it may be an issue or it may not. Bill
our camper is plugged in to an extension cord all the time. Never noticed the running lights being on before. There is no battery connected. Is there a way to turn off those lights while it is just parked? it has been parked for 2 years except for being moved for a weekend and I have never noticed running lights on
The running lights shouldn't be on? Someone must have modified the trailer. There was a time when people liked to have there running lights on when they parked at like Wal Marts and such. I'd look for a switch that you might of tried to see what it did. Bill
There is a two burner stove next to the sink. How long I stay in one place varies a lot. In the winter and summer I usually stay places longer say 2-6 weeks, in the spring and fall its more like 2 days - 2 weeks. Right now I'm working doing tech support to pay off medical bills but I live off savings and computer work that I do from time to time.
Charles Michael Hi Charles, Thanks! I have a Ford Explorer Sport. Did you check out the Molded Fiberglass Trailers video? I listed all the manufacturers and some great related websites for FG trailers in the description. FiberglassRV.com, CasitaClub.com and CasitaForum.com are great resources you might want to check out, there are a lot of FG rigs out there now. Take care, Bill
Great video, Bill! Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. If you don't mind me asking, how tall are you? I am 5'9 & 3/4 and am very close to ordering the 16' Casita. My main concern is the height inside. With shoes I am probably right at 5'10 and am worried I'll be walking around hunched over. Any thoughts there? Thanks again!!
Hi Tony, I'm 5'10", bear foot and standing really erect my hair touches the roof but it's never really been an issue for me. The bathroom definitely involves some ducking though. The only time I do a lot of standing around inside is when I'm cooking and then I'm hunched over preparing the food or cooking it anyway. You really won't be doing much walking around inside, after two or three steps and you'll be walking into something. You might call Casita, they might have someone nearby with one that you can check out. Take care, Bill
Thanks for the info Bill, that's very helpful! Casita put me in touch with the owner of a 17' model that was about 1 hour from my home. I really liked it! However, I want the 16' for 2 main reasons 1) Exterior height (will fit inside my garage, which is required for my HOA) 2) Reduced tow weight. My only concern now is the height inside, but it sounds like I might have my answer to that! Casita mentioned they don't sell many 16' any longer, so perhaps that is why I'm having a hard time finding one to view (short of driving down to Rice, TX that is lol).
I've done a lot of research on them but haven't seen a Scamp. I prefer the Casita because I'd really like an A/C unit, and the scamp puts them on the roof. The roof a/c makes it too tall to fit in my garage. Great idea, tho!!
Hey Bill - just FYI -- Casita put me in touch with an owner of a 2017 16' Spirit Deluxe that was three hours away. I went to look at it and loved it! Interior height was no issue for me at all. Already have my order placed with Casita :-) Thanks for the suggestions!!
+swampmammytheone Take your time and do a lot of research, it's much better to find what your able to live with the first time around rather then going through several RVs. I found RV trader a good source and there's Casitaclub.com and Casitaforum.com with listings as well (if you want a Casita). Researching and waiting to buy what you want isn't the most fun but I think it really pays off in the end. Bill
The Willful Wanderer Thanks Bill I already bought and sold a 26 ft sunnybrook, thought it was what I wanted but I was wrong. I own an acre of land and won't be hauling it around very much if any at all. Looking to down size for my future.
Hi Richard, I've never had problems with mold in the carpet. In Florida I do get mildew on the fiberglass though, everything can get mildew on it in Florida though! Haha Bill
Wow ten years, I wonder what you think of the new hipster channels that hardly make it six months. To compete you LL need at least five aerial shots per video of your coffee cup.
Colleen Ross Hi Colleen, I'm in the Ocala area and out of the 6 or 7 commercial campgrounds in the area I can think of only one that does that. Mine is a 2000 model, I bought it used a little over 12 years ago and I've never been asked. I prefer non commercial park camping but sometimes it the location, location, location thing.
Oh I think Tampa and key West all want newer models. I also heard some don't want the vans either. rv sue has a trailer like yours and she travels blm land in Arizona. No restrictions there at all all free.
Colleen Ross Lots of BLM lands all over the place, I've camped on almost every kind of public land you can think of except bombing ranges. I've been very close to several on various occasions though.
+The Willful Wanderer health probs? leds will finish you off. extreme health radio dr jack kruse ( neurosurgeon) blue light causing mitochondrial dis- ease.( death)
I'm still getting rid of stuff from my 3/2 house, in a few months it will all be gone. I still continually get rid of stuff I travel with that I thought I needed, but really didn't. Bill
My God I have more room in my 18 footer 73 Dodge sportsman then u do there. Sure your table top ten yrs is waring out. Even a thin 1/4 inch plywood stained and coated be all you need Sanders. if u do have some carpenter skills. Trace your table be like new again. Under 30 bucks plus have an extra plywood for other things. No way I'd live that small for 10 yrs. My 360 has enough power to tow my Ford Taurus behind. my God that's way smaller then my camper.
i take it you haven't seen the 13 ft version of scamp (maybe casita too?) but another really cool thing is you can park way easier and have more options because it's smaller. and easier to tow.
Just a tip from an old firefighter, if you swap the Ionization type detector with a Photo-electric type you shouldn’t have false alarms.
I love your honesty about living in such a small space, God bless you Sir!!!
I have a five bedroom home that I would walk away from in a heartbeat to live like you and travel! Nice video, thanks!
Hi Diane, But what about those family members living in those other four bedrooms? Haha I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Bill
Everyone is grown up and out of the house!!! So basically I have four guest rooms that never get used.
Switch it up. Sleep in a different bedroom every night of the week, problem solved.
My immediate thought. Ha
Diane E if everyone moved out then sell your house and travel as much as you can
Thank you for sharing. It helps me keep the dream alive of doing this myself one day when I find the courage.

Thanx pal, for a really good tour of your home [you help me with my future plans].
nice video dude, you have a good demeanor, very good job
Just discovered your channel. I like your easy going attitude. Also the Casita. Please look into Allure vinyl strip flooring. Easy to install and is waterproof. Laminate like Pergo etc is more difficult on small spaces and is NOT waterproof.
Nice trailer, Bill. I have a 1994 16ft so its nice to be able to compare. You have taken really good care of it. Love the tour.

fantastic living space, well done im very envious
Thank you for taking the time to make the vid. I'm looking at trailers and these vids really help
Hi John, I'm glad I could help. Bill
Loved your video. Thinking about living in one now too.
very, very nice. Thank you for showing us your home!

Thanks, it's worked out really well for me.
Nice videos, Bill. :)

Hi. Joe sent me. (SKPjoe Coursegold). Loved the tour. Looking forward to more videos.
Jean on the Road Hi Jean, Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Bill
I must give you credit for living 10 years in such limited space, yet your little home doesn’t look cluttered at all lol!

I did the gulf coast in early 2005 (I can't believe it's been that long) the same year Katrina visited.
There is a saying about boats that applies to campers too. the more stuff you have in your boat/camper, the less room there is for fun.
Is your ceramic toilet the same size (seat) as one in a home? Also, does Casita install it as an option? Thanks again for always replying to my comments.
+Mitch Kolber
Yep it's the same size and it is the standard toilet that comes with the bathroom. You can get Casitas without a bathroom if that is what you're asking??
Bill
How is the maintance and upkeep on casitas like. Things such as window seals and all that?

Take care, Bill
Do you use the built in heater/furnace often? I am thinking about not including a heater/furnace when I order my Casita. I don't care for cold weather too much so I don't plan on needing a heater much.
*****
Hey George.
Bill
How does that camper due in the summer and winter sweating or does it do pretty good being That it is fiberglass with some carpet all over
Hi Steve, The carpet has a foam backing which offers some insulation. Condensation isn't much of an issue anymore than with other small campers. Bill
Thanks for sharing......But how do you cook ?
And could you tell us how long do you stay in one place at a time, also how do you make a living.....
Thanks...
The Willful Wanderer c
...what kind of car do you have? I am really interested n fiberglass campers after seeing all of your videos. THANK YOU
Charles Michael
Hi Charles,
Thanks!
Take care,
Bill
Have you checked out the Scamp? It might be worth a call, they're almost identical to Casitas and there might be one close by to check out.
Nice
What advice would you have for someone such as myself looking to buy a used one like this?
+swampmammytheone
Take your time and do a lot of research, it's much better to find what your able to live with the first time around rather then going through several RVs.
You are so organized
You have to be, anything not in it's place is in the way! Haha Bill
Have you ever had a problem with mold in the carpet??
Hi Richard, I've never had problems with mold in the carpet. In Florida I do get mildew on the fiberglass though, everything can get mildew on it in Florida though! Haha Bill
Wow ten years, I wonder what you think of the new hipster channels that hardly make it six months. To compete you LL need at least five aerial shots per video of your coffee cup.
Hi Chad, I don't drink coffee so you don't have to worry about any coffee shots here hahaha. Bill
What is your tow vehicle?

What do you pull the trailer with?
2002 Ford Explorer Sport right now. I did a video giving details and MPG czcams.com/video/tfQqhaSXfNc/video.html
What rv park you at in Florida? I thought they didn't take 10 year old RVs anywhere in Florida.
Have you been on any blm land. And what do you use to tow your camper
Colleen Ross Lots of BLM lands all over the place, I've camped on almost every kind of public land you can think of except bombing ranges. I've been very close to several on various occasions though.
I was just made aware of this blm land a couple months ago. Is there any in Florida? Or is this just out west?
I have a question. How do you survive with out an address. The fact people need it as proof for so many things. Thanks, good video.
I have a mailbox at a UPS store that provides a permanent address
@@TheWillfulWanderer O wow. Nice, thanks for that. 👊
did you buy your trailer new, or used? what do they go for?
I bought mine used, it was 3 years old. They go for too much now but a simple Google search will give you a good estimate.

What is the gross weight on this trailer?
Around 2300 pounds dry. It's around 3800 loaded. Bill
@@TheWillfulWanderer Thank you.
10 years living in that trailer, wow I guess you found out a long time ago you don't need much stuff in life like what a normal house can hold.
I'm still getting rid of stuff from my 3/2 house, in a few months it will all be gone. I still continually get rid of stuff I travel with that I thought I needed, but really didn't. Bill
I bet you put the fish in the shower 😊
Nope it comes from the factory like that. It would be very slippery without them!
Umm. You seem older than 10 yrs old.
Definitely, I've lived other places! haha
Hey Lee, If everyone wanted the same thing in an RV there'd only be one model out there! Bill
I rolled my eyes immediately on Lee Bens comment. and I'm 72
i take it you haven't seen the 13 ft version of scamp (maybe casita too?) but another really cool thing is you can park way easier and have more options because it's smaller. and easier to tow.
