Train Season 2023!
You Can Count On Katy! I'm a big Katy fan and life long Texan. I've got a couple of Lionel MKT RTR steam train sets from the 90s and a Lionchief steamer, a Williams Reproductions F3 AB set, Williams Texas Special E7s and passenger cars, a pair of Lionel ALCOs, a pair of Williams ALCOs, Lionel's complete "the Texan" RTR plus add ons, as well as NW2s and GP7s in both red and green MKT liveries, and yet I see another acquisition on the horizon.... at this rate if Lionel WERE the Katy she'd still be a solvent independent class 1 railroad lol.
I love that lionel is putting road specific dialog in their lionchief sets. If a kid gets one as a gift it makes the train more special. Plus the texas special paint is very eye catching.
I got one of the Lionel Texas Specials about 2 weeks ago. I got the extra two add-on cars as well. Chris, I love this train and saw you got one as well. It is awesome! I am putting it under the Christmas Tree today, 12/9/2023. It is everything I expected it to be. I got it from Gryzboski's Train Store. They are in Pennsylvania and I get my Lionel Orders from them 2 days after I order it. They are the fastest to deliver. Thanks for letting me know about them. John Mo in suburban Philly.
Hi Chris, I love the way the train looks. I had a dream a while ago and in my dream you came to my home and I was in one of your videos! I gave you a tour of my layout and you showed it on CZcams. And when you told your viewers about my speed on the layout, you told them not to criticize me. I was going 100mph with my freight trains. I had a great time with you in my dream. I had another one very similar last year. Cory Mears
that set looks GREAT! I just picked up a Texas Special F3 A unit from Broadway Limited in N scale, review on my channel of course, shameless plug. I'd really like to find some coaches for it. Although I don't think any have been made for a long time. I think Con-Cor may have made a set back in the day.
Thanks for sharing Shane and I will check it out!
Beautiful set with amazing sounds! Happy holidays everyone
Happy Holidays!
@RBPTrains Thanks bud. Hope you and the family have a great one!
Love The Texas Special. I have a Williams Set ABA with 7 passenger cars and also a K-Line ready to run set as well. Looks like I may be visiting Ken Sr. or Ken Jr. soon to pick up the LionChief set in the near future. Oh I also just ordered the “Katy” car from my friends at METCA. LOL 😂
Awesome and thank you for ordering the Katy car!
Awesome looking lionchief set, very comical guy 👍🏻✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️
Thanks for this, Chris. It's a very nicely produced starter set, very bright and colourful. I'm anyone, adult or child, would be pleased to have this for their own.
Great Video! Love the Texas Special!
Lionel’s new 2024 catalogue has an unpowered FT A unit in ‘Texas Special’ livery, perfect to expand your train and mimic the original (whereas the original had E7A units, but still, close enough). I’m sure Lionel will (hopefully) produce a dining car and perhaps even cars that the B&O and the Pennsy contributed to the train. Lionel has certainly added more cars to ‘The Chief’ already, minus a dining car.
On a different note, your commissioned boxcar looks fantastic! Would look great behind some KATY or FRISCO power, or even in use in a Halloween Train!
Bit of a dumb question, but what is the likelihood of commissioning Lionel, Metca, or a hobby store to produce a special undecorated FT A unit with accompanying remote? Sort of like Lionel’s rare 0-8-0 #99, if you’re ever interested in doing some information on that.
Otherwise, Happy Railroading!
The set would look amazing with a secondary A unit to follow up there engine
Agree!
Great set 👌 thanks for showing us
Gorgeous!!!!
Great video as always Chris! I really enjoy your videos. It’s really the perfect starter set. The only thing it needs is a b unit! Keep up the great work. Happy train season
A good train set for sure! Excited about the boxcar!
Well this was fun!!! Thanks, Chris!!!
Love the Texas Special! Love train season ❤
I love your videos. You have a great sense of humor.🤩
Never thought I'd watch Bruce Campbell unbox and review a train set.
another fun video Chris, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great comparison of the 2 sizes and you can’t go wrong with with the bright red 👍😃
I always want that set😊
I preordered this set along with the two add on cars. I was surprised when this showed up in the volume 1 2023 catalog there wasn’t a lot of you tube hype over it. I absolutely love this set. It is a great value for the money. I also reviewed this set on my you tube channel.
Excellent! I will check that out!
Whole video I was just enjoying the Christmas train going by, beautiful set.
The North Pole Central is my pick for the 2023 Train Set of the Year!
What a cool set and video RBP!
Yours is the only channel that compares scale to traditional Lionel. It is very much appreciated by me and my 4'x8' layout. I have Railking and Lionel post war o and modern traditional scale. Thanks.
Thank you Joe!
Great review of the Texas special
Nice Texas Special Chris! I can’t wait to see your Strasburg 90 video!
Working on the Strasburg 90 review and will have it posted soon!
happy holidays to you and your family Chris great video that Christmas special set looks amazing enjoy and thanks for sharing ;-)
Happy Holidays to you as well Carl!
Chris, the side by side comparison was excellent
The sets looked really good running together. So much bright red! Thanks for watching!
Sleigh bell limited is so pretty 😍
In the 1960s I had a Lionel train set, and it was very well made, but no place to set one up now. But it's great to watch yours working. Thanks for the show.
Thanks for watching!
Great review Chris! Looks like another set to put on the bucket list! 😄
When it comes to the Ready-to-Run sets, this is one of the best!
Chris not stumping for a Katy, we'll never see the day :D
As always, fun to watch, learn, and be part of the adventures from your train room!
Thanks for watching!
I was just trying to decide if i need to buy this, perfectly timed
Way cool set RPB nice looking set
Hey, thanks for the review, etc. I might actually be able to afford this version -- later on. Loved seeing it run and also the new Christmas F unit passenger train. Great viewing.
Thanks for watching!

A nice way to explain O scale and O gauge. Enjoyed!
Thank you!
I'm still waiting on my challenger train. It takes forever. Keep being awesome my friend. Ur trains are the best. Hope to hear from u soon. Ur the best
I am sure that engine will be in soon! Stay strong and thank you for all of your support!
@@RBPTrains ur welcome Chris. Keep being the best friend u can
It looks good for a semi scale set. Never was a fan of semi scale or pre- war size, but that's really good. The scale is what really likened me to Lionel..
Yes the train season 2023 I’m so excited for this video
Nice set
Mini me approves of this video..❤❤😊😊😊
I am relieved!
Great review video Chris! I should start getting out my postwar 2245 Texas special F3 set. I really enjoy the yellow nose engines too. The train reviews are multiplying this season. Also That number 90 model sounds too accurate!
2024 lionel catalog-- non powered B unit is a' coming!
I need Rapido to make a HO scale Texas Special set. Love the Katy.
Great train and ready for New York Central Steam Engines.
NYC is up next!
Looks amazing they one at my local train store
I want one it’s kool
Nice set love the videos
Thank you!
You welcome
I preordered this and I love it, I feel they could include more track but other than that it’s great, I also got the extra baggage car as well.
I believe they expected fans to already have a full layout.😮🚆🚂
The nice thing about Fastrack is that it is readily available if you need to order and find some at a local shop. But I agree, the loop is pretty tiny.
I bought 3 Lionel new ready to run sets. A John Deere and 2 Christmas trains. The John Deere engine shakes terribly. 1 Christmas train engine stopped smoking. The other one I haven't run enough to know about it. I also bought a used MTH ready to run John Deere set from Trainz. It has bad distorted sound. So much again for Trainz testing resources. I buy from Trainz but they are unstatisfactory testing the engines. I have bought many engines from Trainz and abiut a third of them had issues.
Awesome set!!! tho I can’t help notice a Strasburg 90 in the background get mine in a few weeks
i love this channel
Cool
Beautiful color schemes on both Texas Specials. That Katy boxcar would go well with my RBP ES44AC, probably going to order one. Hoping you do a review video of the North Pole Central for the holidays and the NYC 20th Century Limited when the Dreyfus of your choice comes in.
Both reviews are in the works. Thank you David!
Looks great Chris 🙂🙂 I heard you mention that boxcar will be made in Concord NC & I was like, ah ok, I am not really to far from there, I am in Greensboro NC, which is not really to far from Concord NC, anyway like I said before, great set on that Texas special 🙂🙂
I visited Greensboro last summer with my wife and kids and it was beautiful!
@@RBPTrains Awesome 😎😎 Glad you had a good time 😊😊
Looks really good. I wonder if they'll offer a dome car in the future. Well of course they will!
That would be great!
Nice set. It is interesting that they chose to use and FT body shell. The post-war Lionel F3's are fairly close to scale. I couldn't tell if these were based on the regular Lionel F units, as far as size. I passed on a post-war Texas Special set earlier this year to add a Santa Fe set for my AMT passenger cars. I'm trying to find the AMT Texas Special passenger cars, but they are hen's teeth. A great video, as always.
What does FT mean? Cory Mears
@@katherinemorey6517 That was the first of the EMD F-series locomotives, first built in 1939. They had the four porthole windows, whereas future F's had two or three. There are some other subtle differences, but the portholes are the biggest visual difference.
I have American Models and American Flyer by Lionel passenger car. Just missing the engines. But I have to say to no matter what, both the S and O are awesome. Colors are right on! As for the horn battle, I would have to say a tie.
That is a nice set 😊🚅
Speaking about the Katy I saw the Union Pacific Katy heritage engine in a conscience today going south to Barstow California
Awesome!
Hi Chris. I like your Christmas passenger train set you have. I made my own custom painted train in ho scale.
Nice! I bet your train looks great and it is even better that it you made it!
@@RBPTrains thank you. I have no ideas for a Christmas car for this year.
Nice review of this set. It was really nice seeing the two versions of the Texas Special sunning side by side. The reds match perfectly. Years back I got the ready to run Ski Train from Lionel. I love that set although even with two motors the engine is woefully under powered. Skip up to two years ago and the Vision Line showed up in the catalog with the F40 engines to match. I had to do it and bought the engine, the four car and two car set. I love this set even more than the RTR version. However, the colors do not match. Its not even close. This is the only complaint I have with these sets.
Oh yes 2023 train season
Great Work! What ready to run set do you recommend? I am considering starting a O Scale layout (Passenger Trains) with my 7 year old son. Thanks in advance.
In the new 2024 Lionel Catalogue, there is now a dummy unit to go with this set.
Excellent!
Chris, another one of your excellent videos and a pleasure to watch. As an aside, I’ve noticed that among various passenger cars regardless of price point, the interiors frequently lack silhouettes of passengers which would certainly make them even more realistic. It seems strange to manufacture passenger cars without including passengers! It would make a nice touch and surely not a too costly addition in my opinion. What are your thoughts on this matter? Thank you.
I’m your biggest fan
We need one of these sets with the same paint scheme as the North Pole/sleigh belle e8 passenger set.
I wish I had train money. I live my train dreams thru youtube. Maybe one day before I die, I can afford my dream hobby 😂
I only recently starting collecting like this. I remember watching the demos on the old Lionel Web site before CZcams even existed. I am sure you will be able to get lots of trains eventually!
First. And that set looks awesome 😎
Early crew!
@@RBPTrains Yea, I've got them notifications on! Why wouldn't I
I wonder if an ultimate test with the lionchef Texas Special pulling its own coaches AND the scale ones
That set looks great! Are you ordering the Golden Gate Depot Texas Special set? 3rd rail is also doing E7's for the set.
I am not getting that set but looking forward to seeing pictures of it
Next to my Alaska sets, the Texas Special is also my favorite! I have a question: Did your 21" Texas Special Passenger Car windows 'fog' up? I have two sets that I had to replace all of the window strips.
100%! When I got them they were all hosed so I replaced them. Taking those cars apart was a heck of a project...
Kinda wish they'd do a Missouri Pacific Eagle one, need some MoPac blue and white on them beauties.
That would be a nice set!
Train season is here! 🎉
My signals are MTH. No particular reason for this. I thought they looked cool. There is a set of gates from Lionel as well on the inner main line.
@@RBPTrainsthey do go really well alongside the Texas Special showcase, so I think you made a good choice! Happy holidays 👍🏾🎄❄️
Im very lucky to get a entire s scale train set an old one with a whistle sound billboard two electric switches and some other stuff and a random o scale engine no tender and a entire loop of track it needs a little TLC and it will work
What signals brand do you use for your rail crossings and why ?
My one gripe with these sets is that they use an EMD FT but don't include or even offer a B unit. The rest of Lionel's E and F units offer B units separately, but the RTR sets never do. This is particularly annoying because the RTR sets specifically are based on the FT, which was never intended to operate without a B unit, to the point that the real life FTs came from the factory with a B unit semi-permanently attached. As far as I can tell the only F unit Lionel makes as an A unit only is the FT, the only one that absolutely needs a B unit.
Neat Texas Special set Chris. Think you’ll get the Postwar version?
I have the Post War F3 in the collection already (snuck it in to a quick clip in this video). One of the icons of that Era for sure! Thanks for watching
I have the new Santa Fe version coming Monday that features, the auto racks
I will have a video on it probably Tuesday
Lucky you. I love Santa Fe
Ill have to check your vid out
Hey Chris I know me and many others can’t afford an expensive train so can you do a video about inexpensive trains that are still good?
🤘😎
Is it difficult to do an updated POV video of your layout?
I’ve decided to start in o and n scale
Excellent! Big and small :)
It’s gonna be a bit pricey, however very much worth it
Bought a new house with my wife and set up a Christmas village under the tree. All it needs now is a train. My dad had one growing up and I loved it but sadly he lost it somehow. I like the 0 gauge trains I think the most. Any recommendations for a first time train buyer?
I prefer the steam engines
Great! Lionel misspelled “Yuletide” on a $1000 passenger set.
I saw that when I opened it and had to do a double take. LOL. My daughters noticed it too.
RBP, did you know that somebody is making a Rio Grande custom run Big Boy. I think it was a store called train loft, he made a custom run #4025 in the Rio Grande fantasy scheme.
Saw that one! Wild!
@@RBPTrainsdid you consider getting one those?
Can you do a review on the Southern Railway crescent limited?
Sounds like a good idea for a future video. I have a few sets to look at in December so the Southern Crescent will be a good one for the New Year. If you check out my video on Modern VS Vintage trains, I run the Modern Legacy version as well as the Vintage MPC version of the Southern Crescent. Not a full review but they do run in that video. :)
It kind of like the Santa Fe model because the horns the same the rail road car are just painted in red 😮😮😮😅
Do they use an FT in all there Starter pass. sets?
Not sure to be honest.
Say Chris! I've viewed a number of your videos and the question comes to mind: Exactly what do the letters "RBP" actually stand for?
I have the the old postwar era version
Classic!
Chris request can you do a video on the strasburg 90 please
It is in the works!
