You two could have purchased anything (toys or dishes) and then had it shipped to the Netherlands... Opportunity lost...
đ đ Matt Citronella Oil is poisonous, its toxic to pets! DO NOT USE PLEASE. đ đ
@@snoozieq4584 they know that. Apparently they didn't want to go that route.
The price also sky rockets do to our tax system and inflation. Our taxes also change depending on the state
Gâday Harriet & Matt, please buy yourself & Jesse cowboy hats & boots đą Jesse rocked a black hat in Germany!
With many source blessings with truth clarity love light laughter happiness joy fun play creativity adventures abundance wisdom wealth and may peace be with you all!
Matt you need to find a western store that has no English or dressage tack because I think it would be a huge cultural shock for you
Teskey's in Weatherford, TX!
@@krisillus5249 YES I would love to see it!
I got a spot just outside LA - especially if you want to see the charro stuff. However, up street from my barn has an English spot. It's great to see another cultures perspective on the tack here. I'm new to horse ownership and it's a million and one ways to do something based on someone's perspective. Moved from a backyard barn to a predominantly English barn. I can't say what's better for you and your horse tho - still figuring it out.
Agreed đ
Fr , Tackeria is a perfect name for an ALL WESTERN tack store. For the ones that donât get it, Tack-eria as in Taqueria were they sell tacos. Mexicans mostly ride westernđ đ
Coming from a professional groom: the lunge whip is always forgotten at home, hence the need to always buy a new one at every show đ
This was so fun! I love that he shamed her for her liking the Tailored Sportsman knee patch trophy Hunter breeches. Lol. Literally a staple in riding wardrobe here in the US. Lol.
Dying at your observations of the American "fashions" in the equestrian world. I live in my sunshirts! Though I do prefer the non patterned ones :)
Iâm in the states and have never seen anyone in those loud patterned shirts. Probably overstock junk that wouldnât sell so they put it on display to get rid of it.
@Belinda Barham I definitely agree on the spurs, I think they're pretty pointless, but you can use a bit and point out bad ones haha The twisted bits are horrific, and definitely can't be compared to a basic snaffle. And double bridles aren't bad if you know how to use them because you're primarily using basically a snaffle bridle but with a little added leverage if required. Like everything though it depends on how it's used, and current high level dressage does tend to fall more on the hyperflexing side... which is definitely bad.
Glad you commented on those bits and chain twitch, I have always felt they should not be used on horses very harsh especially in the wrong hands and unfortunately there are a lot of wrong hands. Interesting observation on the popularity of black tack in Europe and the brown in the US. Hope you enjoyed your visit here
Too funny! The fashion you're seeing is not "American", but you are on Florida! They have their own fashion down there. It's rarely cold there, so very summery style is normal there. Where I live, we just had another 4 inches of snow yesterday to add to the 18" still on the ground after a thawing of 2 feet, last week. And, while I'm outside in short-sleeves shoveling the snow because it's warmed up alot, my Mother in Florida wears a jacket if it gets below 30C! And, I can't remember the last time I saw anyone up here wearing flowers. Try shopping in different areas of the country. There's a reason why we have 50 States. By calling everything "typical American" is like saying Italian food is typical European. Even regionally in Italy (as you know) isn't even typical Italian. What we eat in Rome is far different than Milano. Same in America. Fashion in Florida is different than in New England, Montana, California, and Michigan, for example. Even tack is different...lol. Oh, and Wellington/Palm Beach is just plain expensive for everything. Try going up to Ocala.. its a little better. Happy shopping.
Agreed -- as a southerner, I would say flowers are a southern thing, and especially a Florida thing. Honestly, Florida is kind of like a separate country.
Re the brown vs. black tack -- isn't that because Americans are still emulating everything we perceive as 'English' with regard to English-style tack? And the British have traditionally used brown, haven't they?
THIS!! The views and opinions expressed by Floridians are solely their own and not necessarily those of The United States of America đ€Ł
Matt: Nobody in Europe rides in breeches with suede anymore!
Me, a European: * looks at my suede breeches *
* looks at suede breeches of every person in my lowcost barn *
I'm from a warm European country and I'm the only one that doesnât wear suede, except on really cold days. I have to order my breeches/tights from the UK because the stores here only sell suede. I'll never understand how someone can wear suede above 10°C.
đ€
"WHAT IN THE CLYDSDALE IS THIS?!" lol. Yes, my big guy wears those on his size 8 feet 24/7 and goes through a pair every 8 months. :)
Harriet is TERRIFIC! It would be fun to see you and Jesse doing something like this too. Especially trying on the hats together... lol
omg yes!
Oh thank you â€
That hat was đ„!!!!
Great video! Love Harriet..very down to earth..perfect shopping partner!!
â€
Thank you for pointing out the insanity of those bits and twitch. Iâm in the US and donât use either. I hope your video helps enlighten others. Itâs also become very popular for hunters to ride in Pelhams which seems so unnecessary and harsh. Itâs like itâs a fashion for them. đą
Off topic- Thank your for responding to Raleigh Link's video about the sexualization of the equestrian world. This has been an uncomfortable fact for us equestrians for years and lately, with social media it is getting more play. Calling it out helps!
Of course this video of your shopping trip was thoroughly enjoyable, and a much needed light hearted content. Thank you, again!
American here and Iâm telling you the mesh arms on the floral sun shirts - best thing ever. We really only wear them for schooling though.
Haha no way, it's Harriet âș! I love watching you both. It's cool to see you together
â€
I know Iâm late to the video but an FYI for that flysect fly spray! One of the owners at my barn had that for their horse and he developed a horrible reaction from it, he had hives, his skin was flaking off on his entire body and was clearly painful to him. I threw it away and gave him a medicated bath and in a few days he was all better !
Matt: *goes to check out*
Employee: *hands him massager* đ
Oh you have so much to learn about us Americans and our stuff, LOL. Looks like you had fun and just walking through a tack shop touching things is a blast. As for the brown tack it is popular because you can use it on so many colors of horses and it will not bleed or stain like black can do. Hunter rings do not get bling and most of everything is conservative (earthtone) colors. Suede on the knees doesnt mar the saddle like the silicone can. Those prices were crazy but that was because it was Wellington and you never buy at the show unless you forgot something. I think you probably found Dover Saddlery to be a much different experience. BTW a lunge whip is forever, when you find one you like with the right pop you never leave home without it.đ
There is nothing more satisfying than a good shopping spree at the tack shop.
Matt, you look fantastic in a cow boy hat!
Should have bought the hat!
@@JLC48 yes! đ
The patterned shirts.. "its like we're on holiday in Hawaii' đ I'm laughing so hard, and agreed! Not a big fan of most of the patterned shirts... I usually order my stuff from Redpost in England since they have the nice solid colors
The flowered sunshirts are for the dressage queens ;)
Oo I can't wait for the Dover vid. Dover is my go to favorite. But also this was so interesting. I hear people in the US complaining all the time about riding pants where the patches aren't suede, so funny, I didn't know that was just a thing here, but they do love the suede patches.
Ah, I had horses for decades and then I was horseless. It was fun going into a tack store again with you both.
Good on you for removing the flash nosebands!!! đđđđ
Hahaha if you're still in the states you should look for a store that specializes in western tack mostly for the western pleasure outfits. You think flowers are bad đđ
Hahaha lol
You were here! The Tackeria was my weekly Saturday store when I had my horses. What wonderful memories you brought back!!! Thanks đ
Zo mooi om te zien.

Harriet is great. Looking forward to the next video!
Thank you â€
Omg MORE SHOPPING TRIPS WITH MATT! Living vicariously through you! THANK YOU! That is all. . .
The flowers are definitely a Florida thingđ
This is awesome! Now you need to come to a tack store in Canada, maybe Alberta to see a ton of western tack :)
Omg irvines would be a hit!
That stick with the chain is called a twitch. People usually use rope or baler twine, it goes around the upper lip of the horse to keep it from moving. People would generally use it for horses that hate standing for the vet/farrier.
and for breeding aka rape lol
The bits you showed are actually shockingâŠHow is that allowed?
YeahhhâŠ.those kind of bits are the norm here unfortunately.
A lot of riders I've been around in SC use harsher bits instead of working on fundamentalsâčïž
@marilyn you can be a cowboy and barrel race etc, without being abusive, yes it's not everyone. But it isn't in itself abuse, jus depends how you specifically treat your animal yk.
@@marilyn9138 you are very ignorant.
I've never known anyone who's used that type of bit here (PNW). They should be outlawed.
Enjoyed watching the shopping trip. Also glad you mentioned the harsh bits some people in America use. I totally agree with you that some should be banned. America is behind European countries in a lot of horse gear
"This is kind of a vibe."
Matt, you looked good in the cowboy hat. Now I want to see you decked out in full American cowboy regalia lol. Too bad Fallon Taylor's Ranch Dress'n brand doesn't do men's wear. Harriet is sweet and she could rock the cowgirl look, I bet.
I'm super thankful that we still have suede/equisuede options for breeches because silicone is horrendous on leather. As I don't generally have the money to go around replacing the seat on my saddles on a regular basis, I'd rather keep them nice as long as possible.
Well, well, well, Wellington! Lived there for 30 yrs. Tackeria is one of the main tack shops. Have many items from this store! Apparently you enjoyed your time!
The chain thing is called a twitch terrible thing but the old school rope one is so much better when needed
As a Brit visiting the US about 20 years ago, I was shocked by how stiff and heavy the lead ropes were in the tack store. I was used to ones that you could easily hold between thumb and forefinger. That said, I think the UK has since moved towards thicker, heavier ropes.
The fact that they just left the german add of the Fleck whips đđ
Hey Matt!! Itâs cool that you are in the USA, I live here! I am always so excited when I see that you have posted a new video, itâs like the first thing I check in the morning. đ Anyways, Iâm a big fan of yours. Have a great day and happy trails!!
theres still a lot of suede bc the hunter scene is a lot more traditional looking
I can recommend the black ultrashield flyspray for the flies!! Its the best one that you can get in europe :)
I love people's perception of America and their excitement at things that I find normal everyday.
I want whips that don't match what everyone has at the barn.. and in the US your local tack shop typically only has two colors or two types and literally everyone around buys that same one. So I am currently on the look out for a new dressage whip that doesnt match the ones at the barn đ so some people think its silly to spend money on those but I like to know its my whip.
Dressage does black a lot for everything. I def don't wear the suede leggings! I love the silicon.
I LIVE in those tops with the mesh underarm and armpits why are AMAZING in the summer. Also there is a huge difference between in styles and clothing for English vs western in the US. I am on the east coast and the tack shops are either all English, or a healthy mix of both. But more people ride English who spend money on riding cloths, western people dont care they just ride in jeans and a t-shirt.
@Belinda Barham you took that super personally and defensive... I thought it was a compliment, like it's not a big deal ride in whatever you want, english kinda go extra on it. Money wise I would expect there to be rich people in either style of riding. I would never take one group of people assume "rich" vs "poor" vs spend a lot vs spend a little, but I got to MANY riding schools fro both western and English and the western kids are dressed way more chill and don't need fancy tops. Now when they ride in a competition, uh yeah those comp tops are expensive, the saddles the horse, everything. I just means to go ride, it's way more relaxed.. which I like btw. You took that totally 100% the wrong way as me saying western people are poor.. which I find really weird. You put your own bias and assumptions into what I said. I ride both and I like both. They each have their own cultures and you're going to find rich and poor people in both. I would agree it can be a waste to spend that money on a bunch of riding clothing when it could be put in a new saddle.
I'm so excited you're in the states! It would be great to see you do more videos or visits to some equine events...like Equine Affair in Columbus Ohio next month đ
Maybe it is the area you are in. Your opinion on suede, bits [ agree on banning some of those], flowers, twitches [ I fired a vet for wanting to use one] etc. is spot on.
Oh, Matt. You and Jesse are going to have to visit Montana. I haven't seen an English saddle since I moved here from out east (Ohio). Makes me happy, honestly, but oh my lord, some of the things you see in the tack and ranch supply stores here really make me squirm.
Best flyspray is Pyranha Wipe N Spray (yellow bottle) and Endure (black bottle) as they both are oil based and stay on when it rains!
Suede is non-existent in Australia too, except in the Show Horse rings were everything is a lot more traditional. But we do have a lot of Western sport here & I've seen the really gaudy shirts & blinged-out belts, high-top hats & even jeans! I find them obnoxious, but each to their own haha!
That twitch with the chain looks absolutely barbaric, I hate to think anyone would actually use that... đą
Thanks for showing a premier shop in my home state of Florida.
đ€ So enjoyed going thru with you both and your comments! Matt, đ€ looks great on you! Looking forward to next shopping adventure đ€© (even if you don't buy a single thing). âŁ
Texas here, and I just have to say we have tack stores you have gotta come see! â€
This was very pleasing to watch on my birthday, thanks.
I'm from the USA, I enjoyed your shopping. I ride western pleasure, mostly. So, I find most of English riding gear so fussy. I used to ride more Englisg when I was younger, but now in my late 50's.....western is more practical. Besides I could never give up my Appaloosas!!!
46 yrs of Appaloosas.Had to give up on the last one last .Health of hubby and I longer could car for them .Miss my spots everyday
Always so interesting to see whatâs popular with equestrians in different countries!
There are rough out tack and clothes âŠand the suede saddle seat is helpful for staying on the seat when cutting or reiningâŠ
Florida = Shopping. My State thanks you :)
You should come to The World Equestrian Center here in Ocala, FL âŠI live less than 30mins away and always go there to watch the horses.
This was fun! I can't wait for you to visit Dover! I love that tack shop!
Whoa. Those retro knee patches look like Tailored Sportsman. Better watch your step guys, or you're going to have a Hunter Princess revolution on your hands!
I've never seen a twitch with a chain either. It was interesting to hear the differences, and I think the Netherlands have better standards.
Matt loved the video keep up the great work buddy
PLEASE test those fly sprays on your horses first. Many of the strong oil based ones can cause chemical burns. The employee wasn't lying about that. They also do tend to stay slick and are harder to wash off, so have a feeling you may actually hate that.
We just LOVE tack shops in the US! đ Hoping to be able to travel to Wellington some time in the future. đ€
She's a lot of fun.
â€
I hope you had a wonderful trip
Wellington is not the normal U.S. tack store.
So sad to see how harsh looking a large number of the bits are in American horse culture. Can you imagine if those chains catch the inside of your poor horses mouth đą Lovely to see Matt advising against them. The cowboy/western riding style is obviously very different to the European riding styles but the much harsher tack in general really shocked me-Iâm not a huge fan of spurs but understand their part in some types of competition riding but the gaucho style still in use within Western riding makes me feel so upset that horses are being subjected to these devices. A lot of the more harsh bridles, bits, spurs etc speak to me that there are corners being cut in all the basics of horsemanship. Unfortunately it tends to show in some horses behaviour. This is why I love watching both Matt and Jesseâs content-all their horses are treated with kindness and respect and it shows in the wonderfully sweet personalities they each have đ
I would like to point out for clarification that this is not a western tack store. Just like every other equestrian sphere, the western sphere certainly is not exempt when it comes to poor horsemanship. But that is a reflection of the individuals themselves, not the discipline.
@@victoriatormanen2232 I meant no disrespect to any rider who goes through all the baseline steps and produces a wonderful team between themselves and their horse. I was more thinking of the riders who use unnecessarily harsh tack rather than put in the work to their relationship with their horse. As you quite correctly said, bad riders are not synonymous with only one area of equestrianism. Thank you for allowing me to clarify my initial points.
@@lunarfaerie8552 No worries! I know in the equestrian world the western side of riding is incredibly small, and therefore less understood. My comment was more geared towards future commentors who like to jump on the discipline-bashing train, when they have little knowledge of it. Regardless, you are spot on with harsh devices being used as bandaids to cover poor horsemanship đ
Now that was fun!
I saw you at the freestyles last week! I hope you had fun!
Matt talking about how in America we love our logos in our stuff it is so true. I worked at the World Equestrian Center in Ohio and all my stuff and my friends stuff is personalized because I work at our embroidery shop haha
Think you for making the comment about the thin bits. I have seen too many people in and out of shows with bits that are thin, twisted and doubles.
Thank you for doing this video - Iâd love to go and just do this because Iâd be like a kid in the candy store.
Come to Texas. We can take you to a large tack store and answer some of these American questions.
love it đ
I would first like to say hello to Harriet, the lady who films while doing gymnastics. Right? Well done! đ
Matt, you're excited as hell about visiting your first US tack shop đ The tour is interesting, fun and sometimes disturbing. I am horrified by some of the bits!!!
You were able to limit your purchases đ€ Congratulations!!!
Thank you for sharing this enjoyable time đđ
You should go to a Western Tack store... you think you have sticker shock now!!!
Matt, yes, you do need to check out real authentic western tack for ranch riding!! And you should try ranch riding!đ
You NEED the western hat!!! Very good looking!
I'm in US braided rained wips are half price at expos and wormer too.â€
suprised u really got all those bottles to europe without any problems
Love the hat on you, MattđŽđŽđŽ
Some explanations:
-FL is a retirement state. The flowery shirts cater to that segment of the population.
-Unfortunately, we have fewer equestrian protections here than Europe. The twitch and bits shown are terrible, but allowed.
-American brands are often less desirable due to being cheaply made. This is not universal, but I buy more European brands than American.
New video!âșïžâ€
Awesome!!!!!!!!
From Tennessee
Hey Matt, just make sure that the ingredients of the flyspray are allowed in competitions and how long the withdrawal period is for them :)
Enlightening
Enjoyed your comments
I feel like the floral prints maybe a florida thing because my tack shops have either solid colors or horse patterns like bits or horseshoes
Wellington I showed there all week! I love it thier and Ocala
