      Keep it and it to an outboard shop to install all the wiring. And would have them look at all the boat wiring and switches while it's there and done properly so you don't have issues down the road.

      Get the motor running and sell the motor. Find a plus 115 min.. Cut a ironing board shaped hatch mid front. Cover entire top of console w/black plexi or acrylic to hide old holes. Cover rail holes w/black 1/4x3x5 step on DIY HPDE plunge routed in flush. As for front soft spot add cross grid under or glue and screw another 1/2 ply over front deck.

    The blue/green/black is your tilt/trim like you figured out!
    I'm not mechanical but I had to rewire an old Force 85hp for an old starcraft..The old outboards are really simple from a wiring perspective typically. Not much to them.
    The major components to the battery are usually a stator/rectifier to keep the battery charged like an alternator (kind of, once again I'm not mechanical), and a starter/ignition.
    I'm team tide craft! Boats are fun. I'm living vicariously through you! My big fear as with any old boat is how the stringers/transom are. New custom flooring/decking could be hiding a ton of previous damage/rot to the stringers.
    I'd make the decision of which one to keep off which one is more structurally sound and doesn't need stringers or transom redone.
    Sounds like you have a great plan in place to check this out! I'm excited either way, good luck!

  • @N2theBlue1
    @N2theBlue1 Před 2 lety +3

    The thru-hull towards the front is more likely the drain for the front live well than the intake. Saltwater boats tend to have a bunch of thru-hulls, I wouldn’t worry about it unless there’s wood core in the hull. Check out a serious live bait fisherman’s offshore boat sometime - they’ll have upwards of three live wells, multiple drains, multiple compartment drains, and 3 pumps in a sea chest plus thru hull transducers. (A transom mount will never be as good as a thru hull because of turbulence). Screws into a hull are not a problem if properly sealed, coat the screws with 5200 and rock on. Professional installers do it all the time.
    That said, somebody else’s half finished project is always a lot more of a pain in the ass to finish than a clean strip and rebuild so even though I like the looks and especially the color of the tidecraft I say sell it and focus on the bass cat

  • @zachm4109
    @zachm4109 Před 2 lety +4

    I’m concerned with the rot in the basscat more than the tidecraft. I worry about the condition of the stringers and the strength of the transom. IMO, even though the tidecraft is considered “inferior”, it’s in better condition and looks like it will take less time to be water ready. The basscat will be a longer project. Id say to run the tidecraft till you get the all the basscat issues fixed.

    For the wiring, rule of thumb is black is ground. Best way to check is look for continuity between that cable and the engine block. As for the other two wires, connect ground and power to either blue or green. One should be “engine-on” and the other should be the starter. You need both to run of course, but as long as the motor turns over easily and is oiled, you should be fine

They will get wether cracked & leak . . It might leak more than you want . . Make sure bulge pump for sure works . . The rest is up to you & how much you want to spend . . Good luck . .

    I had bought an aluminum boat that was cheap but not ideal for myself, did half the flipping on it before selling it. Threw that profit down on my boat now which is a 91 basscat pantera 2. Love this boat but needs some tlc as well...same as yours, found soft spot in the floor, tore the whole floor out found that the stringers were complete and even the foam was manageable....placed new marine wood in....now working on layering with fiberglass....it is not that hard and well worth it

    Your last two videos ended up being my immediate first thoughts when I saw that first part lmao. First was that you should’ve just bought the Bass Cat. Second was that you should sell the blue one. Third thought was there’s probably wood damage along with further fiberglass damage on the Basscat.
    At least you got everything cheap. Tbh, I’d probably sell both. If anything you could probably turn a good profit.

    Man I have been watching a ton of these restores and think I got lucky on my 1988 bumble bee with a 70 evinrude. I Did pay 3K for it but I don't have any major issues with it. The floor is solid and the so is the transom. Besides some upgrades such as a bigger trolling motor and carpet it is a solid boat. The lady that had it before me put carpet on the lower floor and used screws to hold it down. Luckily that did not harm the floor as she only had it a year. I used the boat last summer but this summer I am going to fill the small screw holes and glue the carpet down. I also need to polish up the gel coat and fix some holes. It has some wiring issues but that is not that big of a deal and I have already straightened out a few things.
    First thing is dump the VRO. Everything I read and watched online is that it really does not work that great and can ruin motors. On my Bumble bee the 70 evinrude had VRO but luckily someone replaced the it with a regular fuel pump and I just pre mix it or mix it in the tank. Whoever had it before the person I got it from really took care of it luckily.
    I think the biggest thing is if the original floor and transom is solid the rest is just cosmetic stuff. The only thing maybe would also be the motor but generally those evinrudes run forever. I like that that the basscat has a 150HP but that floor is going to suck.

    I'm staying out of it. One is a lot better and valuable boat when it's right, but there's a lot of time and money to make it right-a lot. The other is 70-75% to be a hook and go get wet boat, but it's never going to be the boat you seem to want. If you were in Florida you'd dbl your money. Operational 50 are listed for/and more what you paid for the package, boat and trailer could bring about the same. Cat floor is what needs to be tended to, your answer lays in what you find.

    For me, it would come down to math. How much is the Tidecraft worth all fixed up? Then how much money and effort (your time is not free) will you have to put into it to get it into that condition. Either it makes sense financially or it doesn't. If it doesn't, get rid of it. Since you mentioned finances being an important factor in the other video, I would base your decision on that and not on emotion.

    Putting a new steering cable in is not a big deal at all. Disconnect from the engine end and try and turn the engine by hand to make sure it swivels free. If the engine swivels free the issue is either the cable or the helm unit. Both easy swaps.

      @@TightlineTV definitely give it a shot greasing those. I’m in a saltwater environment and 9/10 times it just needs cable replacement. If you’re super strapped on budget and the cable is locked up, you can totally give a last ditch effort and try and run some PB Blaster or WD40 through it to free up, but I doubt it would last long.
