I think it’s unnecessary labor. Pull out the pin. Fill the gap with JB Weld as you fit in the new bushings. Let bushings set overnight with the pin in place and the door supported with a jack. This has held for 5 years of daily use. The top bushing needed to be replaced at 3 years and popped right out, with the JB weld intact.

That definitely was one of the options that I considered. Of course, then I would have missed out on a legitimate reason to go to the junkyard and check all the other goodies that were available! 😂

At first I thought you would just weld the edge of the hole and redrill it. But that would be extremely difficult to drill into the weld precisely in the right spot. Then I thought you would remove and replace the entire hinge, which would also be quite difficult to maintain alignment. I know someone who had this done by a shop and they charged him $1500.
Your way seems to be quite workable.

Thought about welding it up but knew I’d never get the new hole in the right spot. 👍🏻

I just did my hinge pins and bushings the other day. I got to it before the holes in the hinges got bad. Door shuts like butter now.

How about a socket and ratchet to use on your handy dandy spring tool?
